Quiz: Are you like Monk?

OK, I knew when I saw this (came via email), that I had to go take this quiz. See, it’s a running joke around our house that my little obsessive-compulsive neat freak-isms are sort of like Monk on the USA network show of the same name. We love that show and watch it when we remember to tape it (it’s on opposite Battlestar Galactica, duh, a no-brainer, you know what I’ll be watching). Tim is forever calling me Monk or Mrs. Monk when he thinks I’m doing something a little too OCD.

But, HAH, I showed him! πŸ˜† The quiz (go here to take it) showed that I wasn’t very Monk-ish at all! I tried to cut and paste my results, but it wouldn’t let me, so I made a graphic of the screen shot.

See…. I’m remotely normal after all!

Monkish Quiz Results

P.S. No silly comments about how not-normal I am. I reserve the right to delete any comment I do not approve of. hahahaha

Two things that catch/caught your attention…

1. Outside your window: Looking for birds at my new suet feeder, looking to see if it’s cloudy and about to rain

2. On your desk: Bills that need to be filed, Chinese restaurant fortunes that I need to enter on the Hambones website

3. The last time you were in a car: Tim singing, mud in the back of my new car from his hunting stuff

4. The last time you watched TV: my favorite Peyton commercial, that Martha is having new shows this week

5. The last time you listened to the radio: heard one of my favorite songs “Come A Little Closer” by Dierks Bentley, that car sales ads bug me

Monday Madness Meme

Monday Madness Meme

Always a favorite meme, from this site… feel free to play along in your own blog, or as a comment here πŸ™‚

Otto said…. I want to thank coffeeNtoast for this week’s excellent questions! Thank you so much for emailing me! (Suggestions are always welcome!) =)

1. Name 1 type of supplement that you take. Viactiv calcium chew, one a day

2. List 2 books that you would like to read in 2006. Any of the ones I own (2 Nicholas Sparks books come to mind), or any on my library list. I have started the Zion Covenant series and want to finish those (I lack 3).

3. List 3 hobbies that you have. Surfing the net, blogging, reading

4. List 4 gifts that you have received. My new Kodak P850 camera :D, Giada’s Everyday Italian cookbook, 2 new Yankee Candles, Kitchenaid hand mixer

5. Share 5 (instant & inexpensive) ways to spruce up a room. Hmm, not my forte, but I would…. open up the curtains and let sunlight in, open the windows if the weather was pleasant, pick up and dust, fluff pillows, light a candle. If money was readily available, I’d look into paint, new pillows or a throw, things like that.

Finished “90 Minutes in Heaven”

I finished the book “90 Minutes in Heaven” by Don Piper a couple of days ago, but haven’t had a chance to type up a review of it on Hambones. I finally did the review this morning, and you can read it here on Hambones.org.

In summary, a very enjoyable book. It did jump around and was sort of random in its telling of the story, which is hard for someone like me (very OCD about things like that). But, the story itself and the feeling the book left me with really outweighed any negatives I might have to say about it. Great story, I recommend it to anyone to read.

I have now started the last book in the Mitford book by Jan Karon – Light in Heaven (a Christmas present from Tim’s parents). I have read all of the Mitford books and loved every one of them. I am so sorry to hear that this is the last book in the series. However, I got online and listened to an interview with Jan Karon and was so happy to hear her say that she’s working on a series of 3 books about Father Tim, although they are not set in Mitford. The first book is supposed to be called “Home to Holly Springs” (as in Holly Springs, Mississippi!) and is to be published in 2007. So, I’m very glad not to have to completely say goodbye to this character I love so much. This is a long book, nearly 400 pages, so I will be reading it for a while!

Snoozing

Well, I’ve spent a lot of today snoozing. I’m still not feeling great, and I got pretty worn out yesterday. We had a great time at the family dinner and getting to see everyone. Then, my mother-in-law (Linda) and I went shopping all afternoon and got home around dark. The guys all went hunting and Mitchell shot a small buck, so that he could send Fred home with some meat, which was very good of him and we all appreciated it. πŸ™‚ Tim was pretty tired too, I think, so we didn’t stay too late.

I slept a long time last night, probably 11 hours or so, and then took a long nap this afternoon, and I feel like I still need more sleep. What’s up with that? I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired, won’t someone please take these germs and sore throat and cough and make them leave, and stay gone? Please?!

I’ve been watching football most of the afternoon (when I’m not snoozing) and Tim has been playing golf. Yes, folks, it’s true. Tim has converted to a golf freak. He now watches the Golf Channel all the time. He hits balls out back every time he’s home and there’s daylight. He is consumed with golf. And doesn’t seem to care at all about THE PLAYOFFS. Yes, like I told him, who would have ever thought that I would sit and watch football and cheer by myself while he’s out back, whacking away at little white balls.

Here’s Tim with his new net I got him for Christmas… and click on the extended entry to see a few posed “people pics” from yesterday’s family dinner at Tim’s aunt’s house…

Family Dinner

We’re headed out in just a minute, to go to Tim’s aunt’s house for a family dinner. This is his dad’s side of the family and they usually have a get-together the first couple of weeks in January, after the holidays are over, and people have more time to get together and visit. We usually go, and always have a good time seeing everyone.

Afterwards, Linda and I are going shopping and Tim is going to go back to their house and go deer hunting. Fred is supposed to come go hunting too, so we will get to see him also, which will be good. We will probably be back late, so I won’t blog again till tomorrow sometime. We’ll miss the playoff games today, which we hate, so we’re going to try to be here tomorrow afternoon to watch the rest of them. πŸ™‚

Dancing with the Stars

I watched “Dancing with the Stars” last night on ABC for the first time. I never checked it out last summer, and frankly, wasn’t very interested in it. I knew Tim would never watch it with me, so we just skipped it completely. However, in the last couple of weeks, I’ve seen ads for the new show, and they keep showing that Jerry Rice is going to be on there. Well. I love Jerry Rice, he is from Mississippi and I think he’s the greatest receiver, ever, in the NFL and seems like a really classy guy. I tried to get Tim interested, based on Jerry and also Kenny Mayne (ESPN commentator) being on the show. He seemed mildly interested, but I figured he wouldn’t watch with me. But, I stuck to my guns (grabbed the remote away and hid it, basically) and turned it on at 7 PM. Tim had to get on a conference call shortly after 7 PM and ended up being on there for nearly 2 hours, so he missed the whole show.

I, however, was able to watch the entire thing. And I really enjoyed it! I didn’t think I would, I just wanted to see Jerry Rice, but he was second to last to dance and I really enjoyed watching all the others before him. And – I have to say I LOVED Jerry Rice and his partner!! He really got into it and seemed to be having a great time and I thought they did a great job. There were several couples on there that were good, and that I really enjoyed watching. One team gets voted off tonight, much like Idol, which returns soon and we plan to watch. I think that probably the rapper and his partner will go tonight, or else poor Kenny Mayne and his partner. Poor Kenny doesn’t seem to have one single bit of rhythm and two left feet (he looked just awful!) The Lachey guy looked good, Nick’s brother Drew. Of course, he was in a “boy band”, so he ought to have a little rhythm!

Anyway, I enjoyed it and I hope I can get Tim to watch next time. πŸ™„

Appetizer
Have you ever seen a ghost or an angel?
No, not that I can remember.

Soup
What is your favorite board game?
I’d have to say Trivial Pursuit, love that game. I have the original one, from like, what – over 20 years ago!

Salad
What was the last movie you saw that made you cry?
I got teary-eyed at a couple of the movies we rented over the holidays. I think I teared up during Cinderella Man (when they took the kids away) and I think I got all teary during Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Both really good movies!

Main Course
What would you do if you had 3 months off from your job?
Hmmm…. gee, this is tough. My “job” is pretty good the way it is!

Dessert
What kind of shoes are you wearing today?
None yet, still have my fuzzy chenille slipper socks on. Tennis shoes for later.

Thursday Threesome Meme

Thursday Threesome Meme

::Hook ’em Horns!::

Onesome: Hook– Just to get us back in the swing of things after the holidays: when you’re at home, where do your keys hang out, on a hook by the door? …or do they have a special place? …or do you find them wherever they landed the last time you walked in? But of course – would you expect any less of me?! I have a keyholder in the kitchen, and my keys hang on a certain hook (the right most one). Occasionally, they will be in my purse, but they are usually on the hook. Tim’s, on the other hand, could be in several different spots.

Twosome: ’em– Do you use contractions like ” ’em ” in your daily conversations? …or do people use a contraction or phrase that particularly bugs you past the point of rationality? Yes, I’m afraid I do. I think it’s the Southerner in me. I say “em” and “aint” and “gonna” and things like that a lot, I think.

Threesome: Horns– On the Horns of a dilemma: if you had only one movie you could nominate for the Academy Awards for 2005, which would it be? …and why? The screenplay? …the lead player(s)? …the setting? Not sure, I haven’t seen that many at the theater lately (just King Kong). We just rented 9 movies though, over the holidays, and out of those, the best (by far) to me were Cinderella Man and Serenity. Great movies!

Quiz for the Day

OK, blog readers, here’s a quiz for the day… see if you can identify the penny correctly. Sounds easy, right? Yup, that’s what I thought. Click here to take the test. Be sure to post your results in a comment.

And, for what it’s worth, I didn’t pick it correctly. I didn’t go look at a penny and cheat, and I missed it. πŸ™

My New Friend

RobitussinRobitussin Honey Cough is my new friend. Tim got up about 7 AM this morning and went and got me a bottle. I took some, and promptly went back to sleep and didn’t cough once for over an hour. It was heaven, sheer heaven.

I don’t know why, but I have this nagging cough, and have had it for several days. It seems to be getting worse, and not better. I’ve had a sore throat for a while, but it’s not so bad that I need to go to the doctor. The cough, however, seems to be getting worse. So bad, that I threw up yesterday. Twice. Ick. I hate to throw up. It’s just so gross. I don’t think I have a stomach thing, I think it’s the cough and throat stuff that made me throw up. Or, at least, I hope so.

I am counting down the hours till I can take more cough syrup, and I’m really looking forward to taking some tonight before bedtime. I haven’t had a good night’s sleep in 3 or 4 nights, so I can’t wait πŸ™‚

P.S. For anyone who cares, Tim found out the hard way that only our Walgreens is open at 7 AM. They have been building drug stores on every corner it seems, so we thought more of them would be open. But, nope, he found out the hard way that only our Walgreens was open at that time of the morning. Good to know, though

Tuesday Twosome Meme

Well, all of the memes that I normally do on either Monday or Tuesday are all about New Years resolutions this week. I don’t normally make resolutions, but I’ll do one and answer more of that below…

Tuesday Twosome Meme

Tuesday, January 03, 2006

New Year’s resolutions…

1. Worth a try or pure waste of time? Worth a try, but more as a lifestyle change, not a resolution that I won’t keep

2. Something I have never done or have tried at least once? Oh, I’ve tried to make and keep NY resolutions before. I have tried to keep a written diary before, I’ve tried to stick to a healthy eating and exercise regimen, etc. I have to convince myself that they are lifestyle changes and I’m more likely to stick to them

3. Help me set goals or emphasizes my procrastination? A little of both. I’m a terrible procrastinator, and eventually I will just give up.

4. Make me laugh or annoy me? Neither, I’m mostly indifferent to New Years resolutions, as I don’t make them or try to keep them

5. Are usually broken within the first month or are more of long-term goals to accomplish? Well, when I used to try to do them, I never made it more than a month or so. Now that I call them “lifestyle changes”, I have a better chance of sticking to them!

Back to Normal

Things are starting to get back to normal around here. We took down the Christmas decorations last week, so that always helps. I always miss them when they are first gone, especially all the lights from the tree, my Snow Village and outside lights after dark. But, as much as I miss them for a few days, it’s always nice to get things cleaned up and sort of back to normal.

Tim had the day off yesterday, and we just hung around here. Neither one of us is feeling 100%. We both have these nagging cold/sinus/throat/cough thingies going on. Which doesn’t make sense, with it so warm outside. I think it got to nearly 80º yesterday. Tim got out back and hit golf balls for a while, and we went walking, so that was all good. He watched most of the bowl games, and I got some things done around here, although I have a lot more to do today. Now that Tim is back to work at the office, I can get more cleaned up around here!

Best TV of 2005

I don’t really agree with the rest of the listing, but Time Magazine is right on with their pick for the number one show of 2005 – Battlestar Galactica. It’s a really good show, my favorite, and I’m so glad that it is coming back with new episodes in a couple of weeks. I absolutely cannot wait!

UPDATED to add: We don’t have to wait a couple of weeks, the first new show is this Friday night. YEAH! I downloaded a free podcast today from iTunes and it is bringing us up to date, to get ready for the new show in 4 days. Yippeee!
