Airport

Well, I’m headed out in a little less than an hour to go pick up Gail at the airport. I have to get a new recipe going in the crockpot before I go, so that we can have something to eat when we get back! I think Gail and I are going to go run some errands and do some shopping, so I don’t know how late we will be. I know Tim is going to work on the tree tonight – he’s going to dig a big hole and hopefully do some tilling or weeding in that bed also, and then we’ll need to get the tree planted and it mulched. I’m pretty excited about finally getting a new tree back there! 🙂

Sunday night

Nothing much going on. Tim and I went to Home Depot and Walmart this afternoon. I had to pick up a few groceries, shampoo, etc, and we also looked at trees. We ended up buying a red maple at Walmart, along with some topsoil, organic matter and weed and feed fertilizer. Tim wants to try to plant the tree tomorrow night, and I hope we get to it. It’s about 7 feet tall, he said, but it looks SOOOO tiny out back near the Bradford Pear that I planted 11 years ago. The red maple we had back there, that had to be cut down last year, was so big and so gorgeous, especially in the fall. I hope this new one grows really fast!

We watched an old movie tonight on TCM, The Caine Mutiny. I had not seen this movie in years, but remembered it being good. I think Tim enjoyed it, and I enjoyed seeing it again. Good plot, and Humphrey Bogart to boot. 🙂

On-Call

Well, Tim went back on-call two days ago, on Friday. I was worried about us going to his parents house for the day yesterday, in case he got called out. They only have dial-up, so trying to work from there is not really feasible. He really must be on a high speed connection to be able to work. He didn’t seem worried about it (which is typical Tim, I do all the worrying, I’m much better at it!!), so we decided to not even take the laptop.

Tim is not a believer in what I call my “women’s intuition”. This time, it was about 24 hours off track. He got called out this morning. He just finished, after about 2 hours on the conference call. It wasn’t really their problem, which is typical, but he figured it out and got the networking group to fix it. Poor Tim.

I woke up very congested this morning. I guess I have some kind of seasonal allergy thing that is aggravated by being outdoors in the beautiful sunshine, around trees, shrubs, etc. Or else it’s just plain old fashioned sinus. Whatever. 😀

Better run, we have to figure out what else we’ll do the rest of the afternoon. Provided they don’t call back! Have a great day, everyone.

P.S. I just changed my avatar on Hambones to an Atlanta Braves symbol, and also changed my blinkie in my signature to one for the Braves. The M-Braves play their first home game at the new stadium tomorrow. I am pretty sure that game is sold out. We’ll go soon, probably in May sometime. The rest of April is pretty booked. We picked up 2 t-shirts yesterday at the Brandon Walmart that say Braves Baseball. Very cool! 🙂

Fishing

We went to Tim’s parents house today to check on the chickens and do some fishing. Tim checked on them three times, and worked on a feeder in the number 2 house. We also went down to the pond, got a fair amount of sun, but didn’t have the first nibble on any of our bait! We tried chicken livers for the catfish, and crickets and worms for the bream, and Tim even tried bass fishing with some artificial bait. Nothing. Nada. Nary a nibble. Oh well, it was fun! On the way out, we met Mitchell, Linda, Terry and the kids on their way back from the exhibit. They said it was really good and they had a good time! We headed home, stopping at Papa Johns for a pizza. We’ve been watching “The Fugitive” on TV for the last couple of hours, but I think we’re going to turn in soon. Something about the sun really wears you out!

Oh, I took some scenic type shots on the way over there, of cows and barns and clouds and things! If you’re interested in those kinds of things, click the -More- link to check them out! 🙂

Headed Out

Well, we’re headed out in a little bit, to go to Tim’s parents house. Linda, Mitchell, Terry and the kids left early this morning to go to the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit in Mobile. They have really large chickens, so they wanted to be sure they were ok all day while they were gone, so Tim volunteered for us to go over and check the chickens. He’s really excited about going fishing too. Woo-hoo! I think we’re going to stop for BAIT on the way too, wooo-hooo!

Back late today… I hope we get back in time to watch a movie tonight… I’m pulling for a big bowl of popcorn to go with it!

Gee, I’m Behind!

Gee, I just realized I had a few things running around in my head to blog about, and of course, me being me, now that I finally sit down at the computer, most of them have vanished from my memory banks! 🙂

So far, so good today. I took Gail to the airport for her flight to Houston to see Trent, Shanna and the kids. As soon as I dropped her off, I headed to run a couple of errands. She called a few minutes later and said her flight was delayed. I really wanted to go back and get her and then we could go eat lunch somewhere, but she didn’t seem to want to leave the airport, which is probably the correct course of action. Turns out her flight was about 1 1/2 hours late. I just checked online and it shows it landing, so I hope she got there safely!

I ran to Bed, Bath and Beyond and got a towel with my coupon. Yes, one towel. I am a total and complete frugal freak. I’m buying a few sets of towels, one piece at a time, with coupons. Now, if they would just put more in the paper or mail me more, I could be through soon! I also looked at their selection of Yankee Candles. I had seen online that they had some new scents (read about it here) and had hoped they would have them in stock so I could smell them. Alas, they only had the Granny Smith one, not the two cherry ones I was interested in. Darn, I’ll have to work in a trip to the Yankee Candle store in Northpark. Anyway (click the -More- link to read more)….

A Day Late, and a Dollar Short

Well, I should have blogged yesterday about my day. I’ve been pretty good so far about adhering to my goal – which is to try to blog something every day, unless we are out of town and away from a computer. I set this goal when I first started this blog, because I know myself all too well – if I start skipping a day here and a day there, then pretty soon it will get to the point where I am not blogging at all. That’s the way I always was growing up with keeping a diary. That’s the way I am now with exercising. As soon as I start slipping, it gets way too easy to just stop it altogether!

Anyway, I am blogging something every day, even if it’s just a little tidbit, or a link, or a story, or a meme. So I am meeting my goal! 🙂

Yesterday was a normal, quiet day….

Yesterday….

Well, as I posted, we spent most of yesterday with Tim’s family. His dad’s birthday is today, and they came over after church to go to lunch with us at Ryan’s out in Pearl. Then we all went shopping at Lowe’s. Tim took me afterwards to the Walmart in Madison, so we could do the big grocery shopping for the week. He found a cordless fillet knife also, that he wanted, to use to fillet fish.

We looked at trees at both Lowe’s and Walmart. I want to plant a tree in the backyard, where our maple tree was that Tim had to cut down last spring. We found some pretty nice red maples at both stores. Hopefully we’ll get to go back soon and get one of them and get a new tree growing in the back yard.

We watched another funny movie from our collection last night… “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”. Not great language, but very funny.

We set the alarm early this morning, to get up and go walking. We got up a couple of minutes after 6:00 and were trying to decide whether to go, knowing it was supposed to rain. Then we heard it thundering, and by 6:12, it was already raining, so we went back to sleep. 🙂

Not a Surprise!

Well, we had planned to drive over to Linda and Mitchell’s today, to surprise Mitchell for his birthday tomorrow. We were going to go to church, then maybe take them out to eat lunch and visit some this afternoon. About a half hour before we were ready to leave, Linda called and said they were going to come over to Brandon for lunch, for Mitchell’s birthday, and didn’t we want to come meet them? So, so much for that surprise! But we’re really glad they are coming! 🙂 We’ll get to see everyone, have lunch, and then I think we’re going to go to Lowe’s and do a bit of shopping. Terry and the kids are coming too, so it will be a really nice afternoon.

I need to go to Super Walmart late this afternoon, and do the weekly shopping run. I’m going to drag Tim with me. Poor Tim!

Last night we watched one of the movies we bought a week or so ago for 7.50 – The Rock with Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage. Good movie, we had not seen it in a while. I imagine we’ll watch another one tonight, since there is not much on TV on Sunday nights that we like.

Quick One

We worked outside almost all day, me in the flowers and Tim with his woodworking. I took some pictures of the new planters and will try to post them in a day or so. We ran to Lowe’s tonight to get a gift card, then stopped at Applebee’s for a salad for dinner. I think we might watch a movie now 🙂

Stix

(Continued from “Plants and Planters” below…)

After we left Lowe’s, we headed down Lakeland to the new Stix restaurant that has been open for several months, but we had not yet been to. It’s similar to other Japanese places around here, of which there are many. Nice having the Nissan plant here, it has really helped the explosion of Japanese food places! So far, we have tried Kyoto, Little Tokyo, Nagoya and Bonsai. Now, we can add Stix to the list. Stix is larger, I think, than most of these places, with the exception of maybe Bonsai.

Tim ordered steak and chicken and I ordered shrimp and scallops. I’d like to say that I enjoyed it as much as I do the food at Little Tokyo and Nagoya, but it wasn’t quite up to what I was used to. It was good, no doubt about it, but not great/excellent. It was standard Japanese teppanyaki fare – soup, salad, then the chef cooked fried rice, vegetables and our entree. I did like the vegetables better. The other places we go to normally have just zucchini and onions for the veggies, but Stix had broccoli, carrots and mushrooms in there as well. The veggies were very good.

I hate to sound “down” on the place – it was good, but I think I will vote for Little Tokyo or Nagoya next time. They are both closer to us, I think they are comparable in price, or maybe a little cheaper, and I enjoyed the food more. As Tim said, this place’s “pink sauce” was not very good! And, anyone who has eaten Japanese with us before should have noticed – Tim LOVES his pink sauce! 😀

Of course, it goes without saying that this was another enjoyable Friday Night Date Night. I’m getting rather used to these! (I wouldn’t have minded cooking, but I can always move it to another night!) The nice part about date night is the company – I love getting to go with Tim; I enjoy his company so much! It’s so wonderful to me that after all of these years, we still have such a great time together. I still love going on dates with him. He’s a really good date! 😀

Plants and Planters

Tim got off a few minutes early, and wanted to go out and eat tonight. I already had something planned for dinner, but had not started cooking, so he talked me into it – very very easily!

We went out to the new Lowe’s on Lakeland first. Boy, I’ll be glad when they finish building the one by our house in a few months, I really like this store! Tim wanted to look at tool boxes to go in his pickup bed, and I wanted to look for a bird feeder. The only tool boxes that they had were the silver battered looking kind, and Tim wants a black one. We can special order one from Home Depot, so we may end up doing that. He also found a tool storage thing he was interested in, but wasn’t ready to get it today.

So, we didn’t end up getting anything Tim was looking for. What we did do, however, was end up walking out with a buggy full of metal planters, hanging baskets, flowers, potting soil and a bird feeder. Guess who’s going to be busy tomorrow planting some flowers? Of course, this won’t even scratch the surface of what I need to plant. We have several others planters, and then there are all the beds – 3 or 4 – that will need annuals planted in them. It’s a good start though.

We bought ….

The Princess Bride

Thursday night was a good night!

Tim got in from work and we got a chance to go on our walk, and talk about our day, and get some exercise too. We also picked up some wood (from a dumpster at the construction site on the far side of our subdivision, where they are building some nice office buildings) for Tim to use in his woodworking, to play with. Gives him a chance to try different cuts and things with his router and table saw.

We had supper and then watched Survivor. That poor Ulong tribe, two members and now down to one, Stephanie. How can you have a tribe of one? If I was that girl, I would not want to be out in that wilderness beach jungle all by myself!

CSI and Without a Trace were both reruns, so we decided to watch a movie. Tim was very sweet and agreed to watch one of “my movies”. We had picked up some movies for 7.50 apiece at Circuit City a couple of weeks ago, including one of my all-time favorites, The Princess Bride. I love that movie! Tim is not too keen on it, but he watched it with me nonetheless, which was very good of him. 😀

I think this weekend, we’ll have to watch some of “his movies” 😆 I suppose I “owe him” now!

Wet and Stormy

Well, the big news around this part of the world today is the weather. The bad weather started moving through in the early AM hours, about 4 or 4:30 AM, apparently. Although I was still fast asleep at that time and can’t verify that first hand! 🙂 I think I first woke up at about 6 AM or so, and it was raining. It didn’t get very bad in our part of the world, but in Rankin county, a tornado touched down and destroyed several houses and mobile homes (I wish they would ban those things, they are so dangerous). Also, the high school down in Mize was damaged. Needless to say, the local news people are having a field day and pre-empting all the regular tv stuff for their repeated coverage of “local news and weather”. I missed almost all of my soap (I know, I hear big groans out there, but I’ve been watching the darn thing for over 25 years now, gimme a break). I know it’s of interest to a lot of people, but when they start repeating the same “video” every 10 or 15 minutes, and then they show radar that has no rain on it currently (although it “might” get bad again later), and their weather guys are standing outside in sunshine reporting, it does start to irritate me a bit. Thank goodness for cable and the Internet!

Sunday evening

Not too much to blog about. Kind of a lazy day. We’ve watched a lot of movies, been to Walmart to run errands and grocery shop. Settling in for more movies! Which is a good thing, considering we’ve bought so many lately

More tomorrow!
