Around the Yard

Well, today is not a day to do anything outside, what with the rain, thunderstorm warnings, tornado warnings and such. However, several days in the last week or so have been really pretty spring days. I have taken a few odd pictures here and there outside, of some of my flowers blooming, and a little squirrel who rather enjoyed scraping his belly on our deck railing for quite a while one morning.

If you want to check out all the pictures, you can look in the Photo Gallery at Hambones. They are not very exciting though!

If you are curious and want to see a couple now, click on the -More- button below and they should load on a separate page. 🙂

Mr. Potato-Head

Tim called me on the way home. He does almost every single day. It’s one of a few dozen little rituals we have, and it’s one that I truly love and cherish. I look forward to it every afternoon.

So, today, we talk about work and his day, and other various and sundry things, including whether we are going to walk when he gets in (we didn’t, it was getting cloudy, and he has woodworking on the brain, so he wanted to do that). I asked him, do you want me to cook the chicken inside, or do you want to do it on the grill? He said, if you do it, what are you cooking? NOTE – he obviously does not read the menus I faithfully post every week in the Cooking Forum on Hambones. Or else he would know this! Anyhoo, I said, I will make that honey dijon chicken over orzo, and we’ll have a big salad and a veggie. “Orzo??”, he says rather faintly. “Yes, orzo, I always serve it over orzo, the sauce is great on it”.

So, without missing a beat, Tim says “Do you want me to stop and pick up some fries to go with that?!!”

A Penny for Your Thoughts

I was thinking earlier today about blogging, and trying to think of something interesting to blog about. As usual, I’ve come up rather empty-handed. 🙂 This blog is named “Exceedingly Mundane” for a reason! It is very mundane, as is my life. It’s very simple and straightforward, as am I. It’s more like a traditional journal or diary than it is a forum for my thoughts, opinions and beliefs. For many reasons.

So, anyway, as I was thinking (and scrubbing things in the bathroom), the phrase “A Penny for Your Thoughts” popped into my head. Now, that’s one of those things I take for granted. I’ve heard it all my life, I say it and a hundred other cliches without thinking – what on earth does that mean? Where did that phrase originate?

I would have to look it up to figure it out. It seems like that is how I find things out these days. I am truly a child of computers and the Internet – I absolutely cannot function without my computer, and I go absolutely nuts if I have to exist more than a few hours without access to the Internet. If I want to know something, I go “Google” it. If am not sure how to spell a word, I might use the Websters dictionary in the bookcase, but then again, I’m probably just as likely to go to dictionary.com and look it up. I read blogs, websites, message boards, shop online (thankfully, more window shopping than actual buying). If I want to know something about a book, I go to Amazon. If I want to know something about a movie, I go to IMDB.com. Mostly, I Google things. 😀 I love to Google things. I do it all the time.

Let’s see, was I actually going anywhere with this? Probably not. Sorry folks!

If you’d like, post a comment with your favorite phrase or cliche. Or what you do most on the computer. Or even, if you’re brave, what a geek you think I am! 🙂

P.S. Do you think this is the equivalent of a Seinfeld blog – something about nothing? 🙂

More New Pictures

I just added a couple more new pictures of Grayson and Ava Clair in the Hambones Photo Gallery – go check them out (if you are a registered user!). Shanna sent me some from a recent outing to the zoo with her brother Jordan, and a couple from Easter.

We LOVE getting pics of the kids – send more!

Interesting Tidbits

Some interesting tidbits I just gleaned from Fox News…

The lights in the pope’s apartment in the third floor are on now, but will be shuttered later on when he has passed. Also, they keep speaking of Bronze Doors that will be shut (Gail and I heard about this earlier)

Once John Paul II has passed on, a conclave of approximately 117 cardinals will be convened, no earlier than 15 days and no more than 20 days after the death of this pope. Conclave actually means “to be locked in”.

What I remember distinctly about this process, from the last one, is the ceremony of the smoke. That always fascinated me for some reason.

An unusual post for me

I have been debating on posting this for about a week now. Normally, this blog is (as its name suggests) exceedingly mundane and about nothing at all. I intended it to be this way. It’s more of a traditional type of diary, albeit online, that I do for myself (and some family and friends). Mostly, it’s just for me. I realize this blog is unlike many blogs that are out there on the “blogosphere”, which are rants, raves, diatribes and lectures about all kinds of controversial topics like religion, politics, current events, etc. All wonderful topics, but all of which I have heretofore left out of my blog.

You see, I am a very non-confrontational kind of person, and I prefer to not enter into discussions about topics such as these, either in person or online. I know what I think and I believe, and I have no reason to argue till I’m blue in the face with someone else over it. I am a Christian. Fact. I am old-fashioned. Fact. I am a Republican. Fact. I am very pro-military and patriotic. Fact. I am pro-life and anti-abortion. Fact. I don’t want to offend anyone or enter into discussions about these issues.

Until now.

New Pictures

I just uploaded the pictures I took over the weekend. Most of them are of the kids dyeing eggs. They were so cute! And of course, there are a bunch of Abby! As long as you are a registered user on Hambones, you can go check them out now. They’re all up! 🙂

I just realized that I didn’t take any at the get-together at lunch. I have no idea why! Maybe I can get some from Linda or Amanda.

We took some family shots after church, while everyone was still in their Easter clothes. Amanda used her camera, since it’s a ton better than mine. But, I got her to take a couple of me and Tim with my camera. This one is my favorite (Tim won’t like it, the other ones are better of him but this is the only decent one of me!!) Sorry sweetheart, it’s my blog, so I’m going with the one that I look better in!

Gas is SO high!

Eeks – gas is up to 2.09 a gallon everywhere here. I was all over the place today shopping – on Lakeland Drive, on Hwy 51, on County Line, it was 2.09 at almost every place. My car still has about a half a tank, but Tim’s gas guzzling 4 wheel drive pickup needs gas.

What are you paying for gas where you live? Answer in a comment! 🙂

Caffeine

Well, obviously cold turkey won’t work for me. I had such a vicious headache by the time that Tim got home that he could barely tolerate me. 😛 Surprise, surprise! Giving up caffeine cold turkey and going back to just drinking water is not going to work for me. Tim almost begged me to drink tea with dinner, so I did. Man, it was good! I didn’t have much, but it helped my headache a little. It’s not gone, but it’s better.

Off to watch all of my shows 🙂

Headache

ARGH – I have a terrible headache. I even went and changed my mood on the sidebar to the fashionably correct word of “headachy”. 👿

I know exactly what it is. I am trying, once again, to cut back on caffeine. No coffee, no tea, no sodas. I can’t even make it a day. It’s pathetic. I have the worst headache and all I want to do is go drink some coke or tea. Or maybe chop my head off.

The Blind

Well, I posted this on Saturday that we hung the new Levolor rattan roman shade/blind in our bathroom. I really like the look of it. I love roman shades and this is the first one I have found to fit these tiny windows in this house. There is, however, a major problem with this blind that I don’t think I can live with day in and day out. It doesn’t have a liner and it’s sorta see-through. In the daytime, you can see out pretty well. We discovered Saturday night that, at night, if you are out back, and someone is in the bathroom with the light on, then you can see right in. Tim said he could tell what I had on, or NOT on. Argh. This is our bathroom after all, where from time to time, I’m either (gasp) partially or totally not dressed or else doing something that I might not want anyone outside to witness.

So… I’m going to have to go shopping again and find another blind. Either one with a lining or else some kind of window treatment. Tim wants to just put a curtain over the blind. Which would normally work for most windows, but this one is right beside the shower, and Tim tends to spray water when he’s in the shower and it would get wet. And, these windows are so narrow (23″) and I have always had a terrible time trying to find a premade window treatment for a window that size. I am hoping that I can find a blind like this, but lined. Wouldn’t that be easy – but you know what, I bet you anything I won’t be able to find it! 🙂

Friday Surprise

Look what my sweetheart of a husband came home from work with and surprised me:

Flowers1

And because they are so pretty and these pictures don’t do them justice, I tried another angle 😀

Flowers2

Tim told me a little funny about when he was buying these…

Gift Card

OOOOHHHH!!!!!! In yesterday’s mail there was a circular from the new Kohl’s that opened up out on Lakeland. On the front is a $10 gift card! Woo-hoo, gotta go out there and do more shopping. Not that they haven’t already gotten a ton of our money. Tim bought my set of Calphalon out there, and we bought some new stuff for our bathroom that we redid. They have plenty of our money already, but heck, if they are going to send me a gift card, they are going to get more! 😀

Goofball

Posting this a day late, and only because I ragged Tim repeatedly that I was going to put it on my blog!

He’s such a goofball, but it is a sheer joy to live with him sometimes (sometimes it’s a sheer exercise in exasperation, but that’s not what this blog entry is about!) Case in point, last night I had supper ready and he came in the kitchen. I had my back to him. All of a sudden, he yells “OH NO!” And as I’m turning around (wondering what on earth is wrong, what just happened), he goes “This Pasta is DIRTY!”. It’s whole wheat pasta. Goofball, he makes me laugh still my side aches sometimes. Maybe it’s not funny here now, typed out, but I promise, at the time, it was hilarious. The look on his face was priceless! 😆
