What’s for Dinner?

I fix breakfast food for supper regularly at our house. Both Tim and I love breakfast food, of all kinds. He grew up having a large, homemade breakfast every morning. His mom got up before they got on the bus and fixed the works for him – homemade biscuits, eggs, bacon or sausage, grits, etc. Tim would *love* to have that every morning, but I’m just not a morning girl. So I asked him years ago if he’d compromise, and have that kind of food once or twice a week, for supper. He did, and we have breakfast food often.

I go through stages on making pancakes and waffles, in addition to the other typical breakfast fare. I’m in a waffle stage right now. However, my waffle maker is going on 14 years old, and I am thinking it might be time for a new one. If you have a waffle iron that you use and like, would you let me know the brand, and how long you’ve had it? I don’t really care if it’s round versus square, a belgian one or not, I just want one that works well, preferably easy to clean, and hopefully can store upright (when you fold it up, it has a base that will allow it to be stored vertically instead of horizontally). Mine is an Oster brand, and I’m not even sure they make them anymore. It works ok, but it is not browning as well as it used to. Plus, the no-stick is long gone. I spray the iron each time with cooking spray before pouring on the batter. Or else, I have a mess on my hands!

Oh, and since I’ve been on a roll lately, let’s do a poll too:

  1. Desert Songbird Said,

We do this at least a couple of times a month. I, too, love big breakfasts, but I’m not motivated enough to make them every single morning!

  2. Karen Said,

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, especially if someone else makes it! Since they don’t, and I’m not much of a morning person, we’ll have breakfast food for supper, like you do. I have a Toastmaster waffle iron. It makes 4 square, stands on end when it’s being stored and I think it makes good waffles! The trick is, I use the recipe from my old waffle iron, which was an Oster that I LOVED, but it only made 2 squares. Fine for just the two of us, but when the kids came along, I had to upsize. I think the key to the recipe is that you whip the eggs whites and add them last. Makes the lightest, yummiest waffles.

  3. Meredith Said,

We have breakfast for dinner fairly often…it’s my kids’ favorite meal!

I have an Oster waffle iron too. I got it when we got married…almost 19 years ago. It still works fine, but if you find one that you love let me know. Mine will need replacing eventually.

  4. JEN Said,

scott loves breakfast for dinner. it is comfort food to him. we eat it all year long…i always have it on my meal plan a back up.

  5. heather Said,

we make belgium waffles regularly in our house… we use the presto flipside waffle maker. it stand upright so it is easy to store on the counter without taking much room at all…and it is a blast to clean…very very simple. i just wipe it down after we are done.

  6. mamichelle Said,

We don’t do this at our house. As much as I’d love to have waffles, they’re not on my diet. I don’t eat maple syrup so I’d have to have whipped cream, butter, fruit, etc. on mine.

My hubby cooks breakfast each weekend day, when we don’t have a showing. It’s usually eggs, sausage or bacon, home fries (I can’t eat). The other day he makes french toast with whole grain cinammon bread (Pepperidge Farm) and sausages or bacon. That’s plenty of breakfast for me for the week!

My hubby would love it at your house. His favorite foods are breakfast, not me though!

I don’t own a waffle maker but I do have a pizzelle maker! It’s ancient though. Good luck finding a good one!

  7. Lauren@Baseballsandbows Said,

The only waffle iron I have is my Mickey Mouse waffle maker. I am sure this is not what you are looking for, but it sure is fun!

  8. Kimmy Said,

I love my belgian waffle maker, but it is about ten years old, so I’m sure they don’t make that exact model anymore. I definitely do recommend belgian though, I like thicker waffles.

We have breakfast for dinner on occasion, not often, but when we do it’s usually waffles or pancakes w/ bacon. Yum!

Ironically, we are about to have breakfast for lunch, right now!

  9. Heidi @ ggip Said,

The waffle makers you buy at William Sonoma are very very good. I have the one that just makes two waffles (got it as a gift) and have used it for 4 or 5 years and it is still in perfect condition and it cleans easy etc.

    Yum! I love breakfast too!

  10. Gail Said,

Don’t think I can help you with another waffle make b/c I think mine is Oster as well, given to me by you! Mine still works good, although it’s been a while since I’ve used it…..I tend to go through phases of making them too.

  11. annie Said,

    I love waffles!

  12. Kara Said,

No good waffle maker recommendations – that is one kitchen gadget I actually don’t own! Good luck finding a new one!

  13. Dianne Said,

I never make waffles and I don’t make the breakfast food nearly enough to suit either of us! I should try to incorporate it into my menus more. I do LOVE going out for breakfast though – any time of day!

Oh and I love your pics on Flickr – great one of you and Tim!

  14. DawnK Said,

Yes, we have breakfast for supper, once in a while. Wow, your hubby was lucky. My mom never got up to make breakfast like that! LOL! We did have fancier breakfasts on weekends, though, when there was more time. I would like a new wafflemaker, too. Hubby put my grates in the dishwasher and that took a toll on the non-stick surface. They used to be non-stick, as well. I think it’s a Toastmaster and always made pretty good waffles.

Once in a while, I would make my kids pancakes for breakfast, but I always made the batter the night before. Cooking them doesn’t take long.
