QOTD – Putting up the tree

It seems that the only thing I post about lately is either a Question of the Day or a poll, but hey, they’re fun and I enjoy doing them! I really enjoyed reading everyone’s answers on last week’s Thanksgiving polls. We had a really good Thanksgiving. My dad stayed with us for four days, and then we celebrated Tim’s birthday over the weekend. Needless to say, we’ve been really busy.

I took a lot of photos over Thanksgiving and have posted some on my Flickr account. Family shots 😀

So, since Christmas is just a couple of weeks away, and I have yet to buy the first present, I thought I’d at least try to get my decorations up. I got my Snow Village put up on Friday, and Sunday night, I worked on the tree. We still have the outside decorations and lights to do, but I’m not sure they’re going to get done this year. Tim does those, most of them on a ladder, and he’s feeling quite a bit of pain in his back and shoulder. He’s not sure if he pulled a muscle or has a pinched nerve (I personally think he swings a golf club entirely too much, LOL!), but it hurts from his neck down to his shoulders and upper back. So, the outside lights might not get up for a while, if at all 🙁

While I was getting ready to put up our tree (yes, it’s artificial), I had to move furniture. It made me wonder – does anyone else have to move things around to put up a Christmas tree? So, that’s today’s Question of the Day — do you have to move furniture or other stuff to make room for your tree, or any of your Christmas decorations? Leave me a comment and let me know!

  1. Dianne Said,

I am used to moving furniture to decorate for the holidays, and put some decor away to make room for Christmas stuff, but this year i realized I will probably have to move a chair completely out of the livingroom – and to where? This may mean i don’t put up a tree this year . . . Mike won’t be happy but I can’t stand clutter.

I am enjoying these polls too – fun to read everyone’s responses. Glad you had a good Thanksgiving.

  2. JEN Said,

I dont move any furniture. But it takes me 2 days to do the family room, dining room, kids rooms and main hall bath. Today I’m finishing the dining room and working on the kids rooms. Its exhausting….and I’m doing the outside tomorrow when the sun is shining.

  3. Write From Karen Said,

We used to move furniture around in our living room, but now we put our tree up in the dining room (that sounds weird, doesn’t it) mainly because of the bay windows and we think it looks good there. Plus, there’s more room in there. We do have to move our dining room table back a bit, but overall, it’s a pretty straight-forward setup.

  4. Gail Said,

I usually have to move a few things around to fit the tree in as well. Don puts the tree up, not sure that’s happening this year! And he hangs wreaths/garland outside for me, I might have to do some of it with his bum hand.

And of course, where are you to look at my computer today! LOL, of course when I went to comment it didn’t hold my info from last time like I told you but it didn’t do it for you when you were here!

  5. mamichelle Said,

    Love your new Christmasy look!

Yes, we take our big chair and ottoman out and put a smaller chair from the den in the corner so we can fit the tree. It’s going to be tough this year since we’re showing our house and wanting it to look big enough!

We will probably do all of that next weekend.

  6. annie Said,

That’s my goal for today. To move the furniture to accommodate the tree. ugh. 🙂

  7. Cam Said,

I love the Christmas design, Stacy!

We have to move the glider/rocker out of the living room in order to put up the tree. The rocker usually goes in a little nook between the kitchen & dining room (which is in the LR area; remember, tiny house so this is all just one big room), BUT, that little nook is where we now keep Des’ high chair when we’re not eating. So, the rocker is sitting in the way in the dining room/Philip’s office space, which is not good. Philip has to climb around it to get to his desk, not to mention, it looks tacky. WE CANNOT WAIT TO GET MORE SPACE.

  8. Lauren@Baseballs&Bows Said,

Our tree is in our bonus room. We have to move an air hockey table out of the way when we put the tree up. We put the hockey table in another part of the room, but because our roof slopes, only short people can play air hockey in December. 🙂

  9. Lynne Said,

I only need to move a rocking chair and one table and lamp and an artificial ficus tree. Not too bad. I’ll probably put the tree up sometime next week. I usually don’t do it so early, but I’m having my card club here next week and it might look nice.

    Love the new look!

  10. Karen Said,

Your decorating on your blog looks nice, too! The header is just beautiful. I hope you had a good Thanksgiving:) I’m envious that you have your village up already. I’m really stuck on where to put mine this year, now that we’re in a different house. In the old place, Dan built some bookcases in our family room, and designed them with the village in mind. There was plenty of room, a place for all the plugs. Now, there’s just not a place that it would “naturally” go. I can’t bear the thought of not setting it up, but just don’t know what to do.

I will have to move some furniture for the Christmas tree, but that’s okay. I liked the idea from Write from Karen about putting it in the dining room. I actually thought of doing that, and wondered if it would be “OK” (like there are rules or anything!) But it would be a great spot. Hmmm. I’ll think on it some more.

  11. christy Said,

I have to move furniture-but not much. I have a small chair and a lamp in a corner so I just move them to my bedroom!!

  12. Brit' Gal Sarah Said,

No furniture moving here, the decorations this year also have to work with baby kitty! I am going to do ours tonight, the outdoor ones are all up and sparkly.

  13. Kimmy Said,

    I like the Christmas theme!

This year, I only had to move one stand to put up our tree, since we just got a pencil tree. Normally, I have to move two chairs and a stand. So, I’m happy about that.

  14. Desert Songbird Said,

Actually we move things around to get the dang decorations out of the garage! But, yes, we move our furniture a bit. It’s a bit of a pain if the boy has his toys laying all around, so needless to say, we haven’t done any decorating yet. Laziness, I guess. We all spent the weekend catching up on sleep.

  15. Laura Said,

I also love the header. 🙂

This is a good question. I never really thought about it – we always moved furniture growing up, and I still do. My mom used to rearrange her entire living room for it, but we actually just move one piece.

  16. Heidi @ GGIP Said,

I just bought my first gift today on a Cyber Monday deal.

I often move around a lot of stuff for Christmas decorating. I take away a few of my regular decorations and replace them with something Christmasy.

We are not buying a tree this year (trying to slim the budget where we can), but I did move a lamp so that I could put the fake topiary in that same spot:)

  17. Lisa Said,

We have to move the bookshelves so the loveseat can go in the dining area (open floor plan, not sep. rooms). Then the tree goes where the loveseat was. We also turn the table 90 degrees, but I’m thinking I might like that better anyway.

  18. Simply Dawn Said,

I have to move a few things around. It’s not to bad. The biggest issue I have is getting hubby to actually help me get our Christmas stuff out of storage…

  19. Maria Said,

We definitely have to move furniture around to make room for the tree in the corner.
