I thought I’d pose another book-related question today, in addition to playing along to the “Booking Through Thursday” meme (see below).
Today’s Question of the Day actually comes from Lauren over at Baseballs and Bows — thanks Lauren!
Lauren wants to know (and I do too!) – When you finish a book, do you dwell on it for a little while, or do you immediately pick up another book and start reading?
My answer would be a mixture of both. If it’s a light and fluffy book, then I’ll just put it aside, pick up another one and get going. If it is more of a moving or “deep” type of book, then I might dwell on it a little bit. But, overall, I mostly just get another book and start reading. I love to read, all kinds of different stuff, so I love to get started on a new book.
How about you? Leave us a comment and let us know!
I’m SO both too! I bet you’re surprised by my answer. 🙂
Sometimes I’ll pick up another book and start reading immediately, especially if it was a light book but one I read just recently, it took me a few days to go on to something else; I think it was My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult, first one by her I’ve read and it rattled me and took me a few days to process it! Sometimes I dwell on them if it’s something I especially enjoyed, I want to savor it longer before moving on to the next book.
So both for me.
I am definitely in the category of dwelling on it a little before moving on. I take time to jot down my thoughts and write up my review before picking up the next book. This has become a natural habit and process for me–a way of bringing closure and saying goodbye to a book, so to speak.
Some books will leave me not wanting to pick up another book even after I’ve written my review and stepped away from my computer. Other times, I dive right into the next book.
I always move right on but often wish I had someone to discuss the books I finish with!
I generally pick up a book as soon as I finish one, but sometimes a book is so powerful that I can’t. Sometimes I feel so much like I know the characters that I feel I have lost a family member! Thanks for asking the question!
I love to mull over a new book before I read it! I read the forward, the back cover, the inside flap of the dust cover, and sometimes even the end! After I read it, if it was really good, I go back through it and read the best parts over again.
Then I start a new one!
Great question! If I really liked the book, I’m going over it again and again and I’m sad it’s over. I do start another right away though. If it was just ok, I forget about it and move on!
If it was one I didn’t really like or one that was really lightweight, I’ll start another one ASAP. But if I really loved it and/or it really moved me, I’ll dwell on it for a little while. In those cases, it’s usually because nothing else feels like it could possibly measure up to the one I just finished!
I’m like you usually. It really all depends on whether or not something in the book sparked something in me that I’d like to talk to someone about.
Usually I just keep on moving. I get most of my drama now at work and it’s hard for a book to top any of that daily living I’ve got going on. Plus, I’m not know for reading anything that could quailify as Deep.
I will definitely go on reading another book! No stopping in between for me, hehe.
I think I’m a little of both, too. Some books I ponder for a long time, some I never forget and some I put on the shelf and that’s that. To illustrate the later…. once I finished a book and gave it to a friend the next day. About a week later she came to return it and said, “Oh, can you believe how it ended?” And I stared blankley…..I couldn’t for the life of me remember the ending.
I usually dwell for a day or two, though by the next weekend I am ready to rip through the next book
If it is a book I liked, I am usually sad it came to an end, and I make up stories in my mind of what the characters are doing now.
I tend to finish one and start another one the next day. I rarely close one book and literally open another one. I really have to think about which book I want to read next. I have to be “in the mood” to read certain types of books and I am more than happy to abandon a book if it is a chore to read.
I do both, I like to ponder about some books and others I just want to forget.

I do both too. Some I have to think on for a few days and other times I’ll be reaching for the next one while closing the one in my hand.
I’m both too!
I’m the same. I may dwell on it if it was a “deep” book but if not. I’ll pick up something else right away. I keep a stack of books by the fireplace so that i can easily see what I have lined up next. It gives me motivation to keep up with my reading. I try to put them in some sort of order but I usually end up cheating and taking something from the bottom of the pile! LOL!
