Hambones

Tim installed this little program on our Hambones server a while back, so that we could see where we were getting hits from. It includes a country section. Whenever I think about it, I go and look at the countries that have recently visited our site. Now, for most websites, this wouldn’t be a big deal. Most sites are on all the search engines, and they get hits from all over the place. But – we have our site restricted, and the search engines, such as Google, don’t mine our site. So, it’s “under the radar”, so to speak. I always think it’s so cool when people from other countries find our little friends and family website.

If you’d like to see, click on the extended entry, and you can see what countries have visited our site, in December and January. Also, there’s a little geography question at the end.

In December 2005, we were visited by people from the following countries outside the US:

United Kingdom
Japan
Cocos (Keeling) Islands
Canada
Italy
Germany
Norway
Denmark
Ecuador
Portugal
Chile
Greece
Taiwan
Russian Federation
Latvia
Romania
Singapore
Austria
Colombia
Thailand
Brazil
South Africa
Czech Republic

Since January 1, we’ve gotten hits from the following countries outside of the US:

Italy
Japan
Singapore
Canada
France
Mexico
Netherlands
United Kingdom
Cocos (Keeling) Islands
Morocco
Austria
Brazil
Poland
Argentina
Germany

OK – who knows where the Cocos (Keeling) Islands are? I admit it, I had to look it up. Anyone care to guess (without Googling it?) 😀

Imagine what kind of hits we would get in a few weeks time if we were open to all search engines!!!

    Indian Ocean near Madagascar???

  2. Suzanne Said,

how very cool……….how do they “find” your site?

  3. Gail Said,

How interesting! I see on home page that it says guests are on from time to time but I think I have always thought it was just friends of ours, or friends of friends, but not someone from around the world somewhere.
Never heard of Cocos Islands, in the Pacific Ocean somewhere maybe? Or Indian Ocean, only things I can think of to guess.
Or somewhere around Africa or Iceland!

  4. Stace Said,

OK, you guys are very close! The Cocos are northwest of Australia, and southwest of Christmas Island, in the Indian Ocean. You can visit their tourism site at http://www.cocos-tourism.cc/

    Good guesses 🙂
