tidbits of random nothingness

I just read this story, from the front page headlines posted on Hambones.org. We’ll probably watch this, and I know for me in particular, I intend to follow this Supreme Court nomination process a little more closely than perhaps I have in the past.

We have a neat little personal tie-in to all of this. We had just finished our tour of the US Capitol in Washington when Sandra Day O’Connor was tendering her resignation to President Bush. Tim and I went to the Library of Congress, then walked down to see the US Supreme Court building. There were cameras everywhere and protesters, but we had not heard the news or radio all day, so we had no idea what was going on. We weren’t sure if it was like that every day, or if something had happened. We found out a couple of hours later, when we talked to Kirk on our cell, about Justice O’Connor’s resignation.

I will also be following this because I believe strongly in the need for President Bush to put someone on the bench who shares my conservative views. I won’t argue politics here, or anywhere else for that matter. I know what I believe, I know what I want, and no one can convince me otherwise. I pray for the day when people can remember why this country was founded, and remember what we saw over and over in Washington – that belief in God was intrinsic to our founding fathers, that they used His name in reverence and respect, and that their faith in Him guided their hand in setting down laws and rules for our nation. I think people have forgotten that in their desire to be free and open. I don’t deny anyone’s right to believe something different from me, but I have to remain confident that this nation will continue to be “one nation UNDER GOD” and that we don’t lose sight of Him as a people and a country. God does not believe in abortion, I don’t think. Nor does he think marriage is anything other than a union between man and woman. I’d like to see someone appointed to the Supreme Court who believes that as well.
