Grocery Shopping

I normally go grocery shopping today (or the middle of the week, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday). But looking at the thermometer, it’s 29 degrees outside, with a wind chill of 19 degrees. Really too cold for a shivering girl like myself. I really think I’d much rather stay inside, all wrapped up, with some hot raspberry zinger tea, my Kindle or maybe a movie on TV. Doesn’t that sound better that schlepping groceries in below freezing weather?

Thankfully we never lost power over the weekend, nor did we get as much ice as I expected or they predicted (thank goodness!). I took some pictures, but lazy old me hasn’t loaded them yet. Probably not very scenic pictures. Snow photographs a lot prettier than ice!

So, I’ve about talked myself into staying inside today, and will procrastinate on going to the grocery store. Luckily, we went at 11 PM Saturday night (to stock up in case we lost power), so I’m not out of anything. I just hate to go on Friday or Saturday or Sunday, because it seems like everyone and his brother is out buying groceries.

Which leads to today’s Question of the Day: When do you do your grocery shopping?
[poll id=”20″]

I normally do mine during the middle of the week, across the middle of the day, to avoid the crowds and be able to get what I want and get in and out. A lot of times on the weekend or evenings, the shelves are missing something I want or need. I hate that! How about you, when do you grocery shop, why then, and do you even like to go grocery shopping? Leave me a comment and let me know 🙂

  1. Dawn Said,

I go Sunday morning, right after church (10am). It isn’t too bad then. It’s usually starting to get a bit more crowded just as I am loading up my bags in the car.I just don’t have the ambition after work when I want to get home & be a cozy homebody, and on Sunday morning, I’m already out of the house anyway, plus I can pick up the Sunday paper while I am there.

  2. Patti Said,

I picked “when I have time” because that is the usual deciding factor. However, I never shop when its crowded. My favorite time is really early Saturday morning or Tuesday evenings. I used to do Sundays after church, but that seems to be getting popular too. I absolutely will not shop Thursday evenings, Fridays and Saturdays after 9 a.m.

  3. Lauren@BaseballsandBows Said,

I go during the week, but that’s because I can go by myself while the kids are at school!

  4. Laura Said,

I think this is why you like grocery shopping, Stacy……. I would like it, too, if I could go on weekday mornings. 😉 I did it over my vacation at the holidays and it was FABULOUS! Lol
My answer is very similar to Dawn’s. I just don’t have the energy after work, and as long as I get there before 11:30ish on a Sunday, the crowds aren’t terrible.

  5. Lynne Said,

I try to go on Wednesdays because the stores offer a 5% discount to us oldies! I refuse to go on a weekend. And I like to go early in the morning if possible. Lately, I’ve been shopping at WalMart because they have the best prices. They don’t give the 5% so I can go any day there – except weekends of course. The store is fairly new and not crowded usually.

  6. Gail Said,

    So you didn’t go today?!!
I usually go during the week, because I can! But, I tend to go more frequently than you because I’ll run to a store if I’m out of something and need it or if we’re having company and I need something more, etc. So I’ve been known to go at any time even on weekends or nights.

  7. Desert Songbird Said,

When I have to do the “big” shopping, I usually shop on Sunday nights. That way my husband can go with me (we go after we’ve dropped off the kids at church for Youth Group). It’s more practical to do it that way because he knows how much money we have to spend, and then the kids help unload and put away the groceries when they get home from church. For “fill in” trips, I go during the week. I can get in and out of the store quickly without my family bugging me about “extras” that they want or “need.” 😉

  8. mamichelle Said,

Well, I could probably go on a week night but choose not to. My hubby and I go every Fri. night. Yes, we are boring and have no life. It started out when my mom first moved in. We just wanted to get out by ourselves for a bit so we started food shopping. We couldn’t have said we were going out to eat or something, without asking if she wanted to come. So that’s where it began and we haven’t changed. We’re usually home by 7 and either turn around and go out to eat, or relax for the night and eat at home.

p.s. We call those temps a heat wave! Just kidding, Stace. I wouldn’t want to go out either, but temps below 20 would make me stay home.

  9. Kimmy Said,

I love grocery shopping! I usually go during the week…often in the afternoon. I did go at the crack of dawn last week and that’s a good way to avoid the crowds for sure, but WAY too early for me on a regular basis.

I still have to go other random times during the week, because I always forget or run out of something. I try to avoid weekends though if I can.
