YIPPEE!

Well, it’s official now. We’ll be going to Washington D.C. this summer on our vacation. We booked a hotel room last night, once Tim got approval at work for the days off that he had requested. We’re going to leave 6/29 and come back on 7/5 or 7/6. Right now, we’re going to drive, but I am going to look around and see what kind of flights I can find. I think we’d both rather drive though (although I say that now, we may think differently later on!).

I’ve got to get busy soon and read the Frommer’s guide I’ve got on D.C, and get online and do more research. There are so many places we want to go, and I know we won’t have time to visit and tour them all, so we need to do some picking and choosing and prioritizing. Kirk and Nichole will be a great help, I’m sure, as they are locals and can point us in the right direction. I talked to Kirk last night and he was already telling me about the Washington Monument, that it was barricaded off because of work and landscaping in the area. Always helps to have those insider bits of info! Kirk is going to see if he can get us some tickets to tour the Capital and White House, and maybe tickets to other stuff. Which will be great, but like I told Kirk, we’re going to come up there, see a bunch of stuff, and have a great time doing it. And we get to see Kirk and Nichole as well, so it’s going to be a great trip, no matter what. Tickets for private tours would be really cool though! 😎

In case any of you are interested, we’ve reserved rooms at a Hilton Garden Inn in Arlintgon. Try clicking here to check it out. But beware, the “session” may expire, so this link may not work for long! You can look it up though. I hope it’s a nice place and in a good area. We weren’t looking for fancy/schmancy. We just wanted a place that was near a Metro stop, with free parking, and a relatively cheap room. We’re treating this vacation like our Disney one – we expect to be gone most of the time, pounding the pavement all day, and are mostly interested in a place to come back to clean up, take a shower, and sleep. No frills. We do like to stay in nice places, like the St James this past weekend, but not when we do real heavy sight-seeing, tourist kinds of things. We’d rather splurge when we’re going somewhere to relax, spend some time together, etc. So hopefully this hotel will fit the bill.

This place is supposed to have complimentary high speed internet access too, but we’ll have to see when we get there. The St James in New Orleans had it last weekend too (and there was a 4.95 charge per night for it!), but we never could get it to work for us. We both tried for quite a while to get Tim’s laptop to work on the network there, and even called the front desk, but no luck. I’m hoping the place in D.C. will have it more workable though, and we’ll be able to get online and check on Hambones. Also, doing some daily blogging about what we see is very appealing to me. So keep your fingers crossed that it will work, and we’ll be able to post some updates while we are gone. 😀
