Film Meme

Saw this at a couple of blogs I peruse, and thought it might be fun to play along. If you do so at your blog, be sure to let me know so I can come by and see your responses!

Name a film that you have seen more than 10 times.
The Sound of Music, You’ve Got Mail, Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, all of the Star Wars movies

Name a film that you’ve seen multiple times in the cinema.
Ooh, tough one. I don’t usually see a movie more than once in the theater. The only one that comes to mind is the original Star Wars. Saw it in 1977 and the 20 year re-issue in 1997.

Name an actor that would make you more inclined to see a film.
I see movies based more on plot and reviews than on a single actor or actress starring in them. That said, I do like Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, etc. For women, I like Meryl Streep, Sandra Bullock, etc.

Name an actor that would make you less likely to see a film.
Will Ferrell. Don’t like him and don’t watch his movies.

Name a film that you can and do quote from.
Ooh, lots of these! You’ve Got Mail, O Brother Where Art Thou, all of the Lord of the Rings, all of the Star Wars movies, etc

Name a film musical that you know all of the lyrics to all of the songs.
The Sound of Music. I know every song, every syllable, every note.

Name a film that you would recommend everyone to see.
Hmm, last year we recommended both Star Trek and Avatar, good movies to see, especially on the big screen. I personally liked The Blind Side a lot, we really love a good football movie. And I always recommend good clean Christian films like Amazing Grace, One Night with the King, The Nativity Story, etc.

Ever walked out of a film?
Dune, back in the 80’s, I think is the only one coming to mind. I fell asleep during one when Tim and I were dating, I think it was called Forget Paris (not sure though, we went to the late movie and I slept through most of it, LOL!)

Name a film that made you cry in the cinema.
Titanic, Marley and Me, many others…

There’s more questions on the following page, click here:

How often do you go to the cinema (as opposed to renting them or watching them at home)?
Tim loves to go to the theater to see movies on the big screen. I’m usually happy to rent the vast majority of them. When we were first dating and married, we went a lot. Now, we compromise and rent more of them, and average about 4-6 a year that we see on the big screen. We usually see 3-4 in the summer or Christmas, when all of the big screen / epic type movies are out. Some are just tons better on the big screen, like Star Trek, Avatar, Iron Man, Lord of the Rings, etc

What’s the last film you saw in the cinema?
Avatar in 3D.

What’s your favourite/preferred genre of film?
Well, I love a good girlie movie, romance or comedy, but I don’t like a lot of bad language or crass stuff. I love a good epic (again, Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, etc) and a good drama. The only thing I really don’t like is scary movies, horror movies, crass comedies.

What’s the first film you remember seeing in the cinema?
Sigh, I really don’t remember. I think it was either The Sound of Music (I have a vague memory of my sister Gail taking me, but she doesn’t remember it), or a Disney movie, the one with Brer Rabbit maybe? Ok, just looked that up, maybe Song of the South in 72?

What film do you wish you had never seen?
Another tough one… most movies that I am not liking or enjoying, I cut them off or leave the room and let Tim finish watching the DVD. I really hated Legends of the Fall. And recently we rented The Ugly Truth (with Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler), but cut it off after about 20 minutes. I just looked at Netflix and we’ve rated several with 1 or 2 stars, but most of those are ones Tim has watched. Training Day is another one, I just don’t do pervasive language and violence like that.

What is the scariest film you’ve seen?
Again, I don’t do scary movies. Probably one of the M Night Shyamalan movies

If you could be any character portrayed in a movie, who would it be?
Hmmm….nothing is coming to mind. I watch movies for entertainment, but I don’t necessarily want to live like that or do things like that (although Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider movies is pretty fun!)

Last film you bought.
The Saints Super Bowl Champion DVD! Haha, before that, a blu-ray to try in our new player or Star Trek. We used to buy a lot of movies, but we only buy a couple a year now, we don’t tend to watch them as much as we did before we started Netflix.

Last film you watched.
We just watched 2012 from Netflix, pretty good action/end of times flick. We enjoyed it, but then again, we’re not overly picky. We’ve also been getting the seasons of Alias from Netflix most of this year, and we’re finally on the last season. Oh, and one night we watched (my choice, obviously) “How to Marry a Millionaire” on our blu-ray, via Netflix streaming… that was a couple of weeks ago.

Five films that mean a lot to you.
OK, movies don’t “mean” that much to me, other than for entertainment. As you’ve probably noticed, I love the Lord of the Rings movies, the Star Wars movies, etc. Some of the others I like to watch more than once are You’ve Got Mail, Notting Hill, the Bourne movies, Count of Monte Cristo, The Italian Job, The Saint, the National Treasure movies, etc.

OK, let me know if you decide to play along, I’m definitely not tagging anyone! Those days are long gone 🙂

  1. Laura Said,

The Sound of Music is one of my favorites. I can also sing every note & word. 🙂

  2. mamichelle Said,

That would be a tough one for me to complete. I never go to the movies. The only time I watch movies On Demand or regular tv, is when I’m sick! LOL I love movies, I just hate wasting the time sitting there. I know that sounds funny.

I love My Big Fat Greek Wedding, 20 First Dates, that type of funny/cutesy/romantic comedies.

The actor I can’t stand, along with W. Farrell, is Jim Carey.
