Missing Out

I’m starting to feel like I’m missing out. The girls in our neighborhood that used to come around and sell Girl Scout cookies have all grown up, so we have no more doorbell rings to look forward to. Usually, I find a troop setup at a local grocery store with a table of cookies for sale, but this year I have not happened upon any. I’m starting to feel left out. Not that I need the calories, but sometimes, you just want a Girl Scout cookie, you know what I mean?

How about you? Do you buy Girl Scout cookies? If so, do you eat them right away, put them in the freezer? Or do you have Girl Scouts in your house and you dread the thought of all of those cookies, this time every year?! 🙂

  1. Desert Songbird Said,

I don’t seem to have problems finding GS selling cookies in my neighborhood; my problem is that too many of my friends’ daughters are selling them, and I have to limit myself as to how many I buy! I try to be fair an order a box or two from each of them, but if they’re from the same troop, it gets competitive. I haven’t seen booths at the grocery stores in a few years now; I wonder if the Girl Scout organization changed their policies about this or if the stores just don’t want to help out any more?

I have a friend who has lots and lots of extra boxes she’s still trying to sell. I’d send you some if you want!

  2. Maria Said,

We didn’t get any this year either! Used to be there were so many Girl Scout “contacts” for us, I had to spread out our order. I’m bummed we didn’t get any. We always ate them within the week of getting them. Never froze a box of them in our lives. LOL Also, just so you know, Dreyer’s carries a line of “Girl Scout cookie” flavors during this time of year. My hubby and I were just looking at them yesterday on our grocery shopping trip. We didn’t pick any up but we’ve had the Thin Mint one before. YUMMY!

  3. Lauren@Baseballsandbows Said,

I’ve already eaten my way through 2 boxes of Tagalongs. I restrict myself to two boxes a year so I don’t eat more. I hope you find some!

  4. Kimmy Said,

I didn’t buy any this year, but I did just see them set up in Giant Eagle yesterday selling them.

  5. Heidi @ ggip Said,

    I wish I could save them, but I can’t!

  6. Tracie Said,

I bought GS cookies this year. The thin mints go in the freezer to be eaten nice and cold, and they others stay out……no matter what flavors we get they never last more than a couple of days!

  7. mamichelle Said,

Sorry you missed out like me! In my old neighborhood, I had at least two girls that I would buy from. I also had my little cousin to buy from. I used to get about 12 boxes of Samoas/Carmel Delights. I’d try to hide 6-8 boxes in the freezer but sometimes the boys (including my dh) would fly through them! I helped out a little too. 😉

I did not have one girl scout ask me this year and I didn’t stop at any of the tables. I just don’t need the calories this year. 🙁

  8. Laura Said,

I always buy them from my coworker’s son. This year I ordered a box of thin mints and a box of caramel delites. This is when NOT having a sweet tooth comes in handy. I eat one or two when I feel like it, but the boxes will probably be on my desk for months. They last a while and I enjoy them. 🙂

  9. Stace Said,

    test

  10. Whitney Said,

I have some coworkers that sell them for their kids. I already ate them all. I love Thin Mints.

  11. Dawn Said,

I get six boxes every year. The girls always set up a table outside my local Publix & I get them there, since I don’t know any Girl Scout families personally. I get 2 boxes each of Thin Mints & Tagalongs, and 1 box each of Trefoils & Samoas. I eat the Trefoils first, since I can’t implement my plan on them. The rest go into the refrigerator. I put them in a drawer; I know they’re in there but I can’t *see* them every time I open the door. Keeping them in there fridge keeps them from getting stale. Then I open one box at a time. I don’t open a new one til the open one is finished. And I eat sparingly, knowing that once they’re gone, that’s it til next year. Last year, I made them last ELEVEN MONTHS!! I just finished the last Thin Mints in February! And I just restocked a couple of weeks ago. =)

  12. Jeri Said,

I avoid Girl Scout Cookies like the plague. I can’t eat just one… and freezing them doesn’t help. When I need to nosh, I’ll pull them from the freezer and stick one under my tongue to melt. It’s gotten so I dodge stores when I see their little tables set up outside. Pathetic? Maybe. But it keeps me from sitting on the floor of my kitchen peeling half frozen Thin Mints off the bottom of my tongue!!!
