Time for a new Question of the Day. Today, it’s all about those hand sanitizer products. You know, like Purell or Germ-x or any one of a number of brands. I see them more and more out in public places. In hospitals (that nice foamy stuff!), some public bathrooms, etc. I have been using them for a while. I always have a bottle of Purell or Germ-x in my purse. I don’t tend to keep it on the kitchen or bathroom counters, but I do use anti-bacterial soap or foam in those spots. My kitchen and bathrooms each have a bottle of Dial or SoftSoap or some other brand of anti-bacterial soap in a squirt/pump bottle by the sink. I’m not overly fanatical about it (think Monk), but I do use them. A lot.
So, how about you? Do you believe in products like hand sanitizers and anti-bacterial soaps? It’s funny, growing up, we never had stuff like this. Do you think we’re better off with this stuff these days, or it’s not a big deal. Chime in and leave me a comment, or just vote in the hand sanitizer poll if you’d like.

Great question….I have a little germ issue. I just don’t like them! LOL I always wash my hands before I eat. I don’t always carry antibacterial gel or lotion with me but I always have hand wipes in the car and in my purse. When I am driving home from food shopping, I just about hold my hands up in the air because I can’t wait to wash them. DH doesn’t have wipes in his car and we always take his.
My mom doesn’t believe in antibacterial anything. She doesn’t even feel the need to disinfect after having chicken on the counter!! It drives me batty so I just disinfect all the time. She thinks people get sick because they don’t have enough germs these days to build up their immunity. (eyes rolling here)
I use them at work more. Occasionally I’ll keep wipes in the car. I never use this stuff around the house – don’t feel a need when I have access to soap and water. Now ask me about hand lotion . . . 😉
I use them when out and about…..I keep soap at all the sinks at home. I think Trent had a professor or knew someone that said the antibacterial soaps weren’t good b/c eventually we’d all build up resistance to them and then would need something stronger and stronger to work so he thought just soap and water was the best, if that makes sense!
I am a bit obesessive about hand washing. I don’t use the Purell or Germ X quite as much as I wash my hands but I definitely have them around! I had to chuckle though becasue my dad (who is a microbiologist) and I have the conversation about antibacterial soap…he always reminds me that ALL soap is anti-bacterial and that it is a marketing ploy to suck in germophobes like me that the soaps get that extra label!
Ummm…at work, I kind of HAVE to be fanatical about them. Before going into the room…squirt. As I’m leaving the room…squirt! Numerous times a day. At home, I have some but rarely use it…usually, I just wash my hands.
