Everyone knows that old saying – An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Luckily, I have always liked apples, and along with bananas, they are a fairly year-round fruit in our house. I’m trying to eat more apples lately, especially at this time of the year. Something about fall makes me want to buy and eat apples. I have made 2 batches of Crockpot Applesauce lately and have been loving that.
So today’s Question of the Day is all about apples. Do you have a favorite kind of apple? Do you like sweet apples or tart apples? Do you only like your apples in something else or not at all? Tim and I differ on apples. He likes the sweet red ones, like a good Fuji or Gala. I like the tart green Granny Smith ones. But this time of year, I love to buy HoneyCrisp apples. They are a fairly recent discovery, either last fall or the year before, and I only heard about them on a blog. I wish I could remember whose! I do like those though and found some really good ones recently at our Fresh Market.
How about you, what kind of apple do you like? Leave me a comment and answer today’s QOTD! 🙂
P.S. Thanks to Michelle for suggesting this for a QOTD!
Wow, we ARE alike! I love Grannies but my mom recently introduced me to Honey Crisps. YUM! I don’t think they’re on the South Beach diet though!
We have 3 different types of apples in my house – Honey Crisp for my mom, Granny Smiths for me and Golden Delicious for my dh. When my son lived with us, I bought Braeburns for him (I think that’s what they’re called?).
I love apple anything, especially crisp. Dh only likes sliced apples or apple crisp, just the crisp part. My boys won’t eat anything but sliced apples. My mom and I are the only ones who will eat apple pie or a delish apple cheesecake I make..
I’m a Granny Smith gal myself. In fact, that’s all I’ll eat. Finicky, aren’t I?
My faborite apple is Pink Lady and 2nd fav is Fuji. I’m not a big apple eater but my son consumes enough apple juice for 5 people. ha!
Also, girl…. you were one of the winners of the Faith Hill CD over at my blog. I ended up getting 5 instead of just one. Hooray for you! And I think you have a birthday tomorrow, right? :o)
I like a variety. My faves are fuji’s. I like my apples crisp. Not soft unless they are baked. And I love apples baked in anything. But I don’t eat them every day. I once saw a show where they had a 40+ lady that looked fantastic. Her secret was eating several apples a day.
I like almsot any apple, but Granny smith and Delicious are my favorites.
Say, are you NOT leaving comments any more? I’ve missed them.
My favorite kind of apple is Golden Delicious. But I’ll eat whatever kinds generally. I really like eating apples dipped in caramel. And Tim Horton’s has a new hot apple cider that’s really good.
I wish I liked apples, but I don’t. I’ve tried every kind and they all bother me (texture, mostly).
The boys LOVE apples. Any kind, but their favorites are Braeburn and Gala. I think Braeburn is the most loved.
Unfortunately, we can rarely afford apples anymore! They’re so expensive now. 🙁
I hate fruit. This includes apples. Ick. Matt’s coworker gave him a big basket full of apples so I have been taking some to the horse daily and told mom she could have what she wants…
I love Red Delicious if they are really crisp and sweet. BUT I HATE it when they are mushy. I also love Fuji and Gala apples.
To me the perfect apple is a good combo of tart and sweet.
I like Gala apples and my daughter loves the Granny Smiths. I have to “make myself” eat fruit, but once I start I like it, it’s just not something I crave.
The crockpot applesauce sounds interesting. I’ll have to check it out.
I like crisp tart apples too. I found a kind once called Crispin that I loved, but they are hard to find.
I like crisp apples…slightly sweet and slightly tart. My favorites are Jazz and Honeycrisp, but I can only find them in the fall. The rest of the time I buy Fuji. Apples are a staple at my house. I probably eat one a day! I LOVE them.
I like sweet & tart apples. My issue comes with texture. I do NOT like my apples to be “soft” or have a mealy texture. ::shudder:: Crisp, just enough juice & preferably chilled. I really like Granny Smith & Golden Delicious. Empire is good too.
