Beau’s First Swim

I haven’t been posting a lot here lately about my flowers and things growing in the yard. Nor have I been posting all of the cute pictures I take of our dog Beau. I’ve been posting those over at my Project365 photo blog for a while now. In fact, that blog is often more of a chronicle of what’s going on with our daily lives and the things growing in our yard, and where we go and what we do, more than this blog.

I thought it was time to post some pictures of Beau over here though. Of course, he’s had quite a few posted on the other blog (you can click here, here or a ton of them here to check some of them out).

You see – we had a very important event occur in the Exceedingly Mundane world yesterday. We took Beau to the lake in our subdivision for his first swim. When we rescued Beau last October, we felt it was getting a little chilly to let him go play in the lake in our subdivision. And even though it’s been warm here for a bit, we wanted to make sure the water had warmed up enough. Plus, we had an extra reason yesterday. Tim was out back hitting golf balls and then he heard “whoosh” and realized Beau had gone and jumped in the ditch behind our house. He’s starting to do that a lot, unfortunately. Which means we have to give him a bath afterwards, since he comes back in at dark and snuggles up on his bed. Anyway, he was already wet and dirty, so we took him to the lake.

Tim is not sure that he had ever been swimming before. He was very hesitant at first, and Tim said he “had to get his confidence up”. But, he is a dog after all, and swimming is fairly inborn. He took to it in no time! Tim threw his ball out and he swam out to get it over and over, and he just looked the happiest we’ve seen him look in a long time! Maybe ever – Tim and I think this might be his most favorite thing he’s done since we’ve had him 🙂 Beau had a blast, so we’re going to try to take him more often. He had to get another bath, at dark, of course, but he was so happy, he didn’t even mind!

I took a couple of MPEG movies, but I haven’t figured out how to edit them down and post them here. So, I’m going to post a boatload of pictures instead  Click on the extended link to see them all.

  4. mamichelle Said,

Oh, how cute!!! Beau looks like he’s having a great time!

  5. Laura Said,

So fun! I love the geese… they’re like, “Whatever.”

  6. Lauren S. Said,

Great pictures! He is beautiful, and it looks like he had a great time!

  7. Cam Said,

Great action shots! Isn’t it amazing how they just know how to swim?? Too bad God didn’t give humans that instinct, too. 😛
Reagan loves to do the exact same thing, BTW! His favorite thing to do is when we walk to the bay, and one of us will throw a stick as far out as we can. He’ll jump in and go fetch it every time, and he’ll keep playing for as long as we’re willing to keep it up. He loves that game, and being in the water, even if it is salt water (in fact, he tries to drink the salt water…Yuck!).

  8. Heidi Said,

How fun! Was he interested in the geese or did he leave them be?

  9. Gail Said,

Love that last one! I bet Suzanne is right, let him do that every day and it’ll wear him out! Good way to get rid of some of that high energy he has. 🙂

  10. Stacy Said,

So sweet! Vader would be the one leaning over trying to grab it with his teeth. He hasn’t had a chance to play in a lake yet, but he loves our sprinkler system!

  11. JennaG Said,

Oh, you made me miss my sweet golden retriever–we sold him 3 years ago. Your Beau is very handsome.

  12. Lynne Said,

I can’t imagine what Maggie and Teddy would do around a lake. They both hate – HATE – to take a bath and get wet. I probably have the only labs in the world who hate water.

  13. Sherry Said,

LOL It looks like he is having an awesome time!

    Great memories!

    Sherry

  14. JennaG Said,

You’ll have to let me know if you try the Sombrero Pie–it’s a real winner at our house.

  15. Southern Girl Said,

Aww, those are such great pictures! I bet Beau’s going to have the time of his life this summer. 🙂 My brother’s dog, a yellow lab, loves to swim in his in-law’s pool. We had a Lab years ago, too, and she was terrified of water. We never tried to get her in a pool or pond, but I have my doubts as to whether or not she would have swum. I know it’s supposed to be an inborn thing, but this was one scared dog. Jake’s never been swimming either, but he’d probably like it.

  16. Debi Said,

He truly does look like he’s having the time of his life! You got some really fantastic shots, Stacy! What a total cutie that Beau is! I honestly can’t even picture Baker swimming, the fat little sausage that he is, but maybe we should try sometime…he might surprise us. (The water around here should be ready by late July or early August. lol)

  17. Carrie Said,

    Awwww, how cute! :o)

  18. Kim Said,

What a handsome fellow he is! He looks a lot like one of our first dogs. Our golden loved swimming at the public pond when we lived in NY. I haven’t found a spot here to take him yet.

By the way, I tagged you today. You’ll have to visit my blog to see what it is. I hope your having a great week.

  19. Desert Songbird Said,

My darling Beau Baby! Thanks for sharing these photos and his adventure, Stacy. So fun and cute, cute, cute!!!!!!

  20. rach Said,

That’s wonderful! Beau looks like a born swimmer. I wish my dog Bruno could experience swimming too someday.

  21. Dianne Said,

Oooh I’ve been wondering about the Beau-man! And these are the perfect pictures to update us with. He looks like he’s having a blast. So happy for you all!

  22. Trista Said,

Looks like Beau is having a great time. You’d never know it was his first swim.
