If you’ve visited here much, you know we’re football fans and my husband Tim is the world’s biggest Saints fan. We watched the playoff game Saturday night, and were both experiencing heart palpitations throughout. I didn’t have a single nail left to bite before the end of the game.
It shouldn’t surprise you then (although it does me!) to learn that yesterday we got tickets and airline reservations to Chicago for The Big Game this weekend!!!!!!!!!!
We’re going to the Bears-Saints NFC Championship game at Soldier Field on Sunday. It’s going to be cold and I’m going to be colder (I get cold if it’s 50 degrees outside). Tim is beyond excited. The Saints in the NFC conference championship. He can’t believe it and he’s too pumped for words. We’re also really excited about seeing my sister Suzanne, she lives in Illinois, so we’re going to get to see her while we’re there, which will be great.
Ok, send me any and all tips about surviving the cold. This Southern Girl gets cold taking the garbage out to the curb when it’s 50 degrees. Seriously. I know about layers, but here’s the kicker – how do you layer what you don’t have in your closet?! 🙂
And, if you have any experience being the visting team at a stadium full of rowdy fans, let us know!
Okay….being the Ky gal I’am its 17 here this morning….Layer, Layer and Layer…have you ever heard of cuddle duds? If not thermals will work….start with this then a turtle neck…then sweater or sweatshirt. theramls on the legs..or cuddle duds…and jeans…2 pair of socks….tennis shoes….ear muffs..a scarf…and hat to cover your whole head. You lose the most heat out of your head….take a small blanket just in case….you will have so much fun…..
I can’t help you at all, but I’m so excited for you!!!! Can’t wait to see the pictures you come back with (and I think one should include Tim in his get-up!!!!) You can tell him that since mister, mister bought the tickets 🙂
Have a wonderful day!
Wear thermal clothes at LEAST on your legs. I use scarves rather than turtle necks. DEFINITELY wear a hat or something…that keeps you amazingly warm. Sometimes by the time I get to class I’m hot and taking my hat off cools me off very quickly. Gloves, yes! nose warmer (do they have those?) yes, if they exist! I’m SO jealous! That will be fun! Enjoy Chicago…check out Anne Sather’s. It’s a local chain restaurant that is SO good! They are known for their cinnamon rolls…you get one with every meal. They have breakfast, lunch, dinner any time during the day. Good place to eat if you have time.
Oh wow! That’s awesome! I’m sure you’re so excited.
Okay. I was in the marching band in high school, and back then it got really cold toward the end of the season, and we had to go out on the field and march. The best things that were ever invented for help in warming you up were those little hand/foot warmers. We would put them in our shoes and gloves and hats and everywhere else (I even put a couple in my bra on one particularly cold night!).
In case you’ve never seen these, here’s a website: http://www.heatfactory.com/What_is_a_Warmer_/what_is_a_warmer_.html
I’m sure they have them at Wal-Mart or WalGreens or somewhere like that.
Ooh, I’m already anticipating your Project 365 pictures for this upcoming weekend! 🙂
That’s nice to hear. Have a wonderful time at the game. I’m sure watching it live is twice as exciting. Enjoy!
I’m so excited for you! You both will definitely enjoy the game, although, you’ll probably be very cold!
How exciting! I’m sure you’ll have a great time. Okay, Chicago is COLD because it’s so windy. I grew up going to football games at night in Ohio and I was pretty cold.
So I recommend that you buy some thermals or those cuddle duds someone else was talking about, and some high performance warm socks (to wick away moisture b/c if your feet are damp, they are going to be freezing). Then layer at least a thick pair of jeans and at least a shirt and a sweater and a coat (with a good hat/scarf and warm gloves). Those warming packs are a good idea, you can get them at an outdoors store or at Walmart.
And then when you get there, drink a lot of warm drinks.
And have fun and jump up and down-that’ll keep you warm!
Wear earmuffs or a hat over your ears! After growing up in the tropics and settling down in Michigan I have had to learn to cope with the cold. One thing that has helped tremendously is something covering my ears.
Wow, how exciting.
All your bloggers have given you great advice, just stand up a lot and move around, with hat on your head, and lots of layers. Piece of cake. Don’t think about it, think about the game and you’ll be good to go !!
I agree with the hand warmers and buy some hot chocolate or coffee while you’re there!! Also, snuggle up with Tim under a blanket (if he can sit still)!
I know you will have fun!
Oh my gosh, Stacy!!! That is just sooooo cool! I am so excited for you guys! I’d watch for you on TV if I had any idea what you looked like. But then again, how many under-dressed Saints fans will there be there in the stands, right?
Seriously though, I hope you all have the time of your lives!
Wow, hurray for you guys getting to go watch the Saints play! I hope you stay warm! Can’t wait to hear all about it!
Ooo, Stacy, I’m so excited for you!! I hope you and Tim have a blast — I’ll be home rooting for the Saints right along with y’all! If a camera comes near you, be sure and wave…not that I’ll know it’s you, unless you’re the one shivering the hardest. 😉
Good for you on the tix, Stacy!! Have fun and stay warm!
Today we are at a whopping 6 degrees!!! So…I put on a turtleneck (I never wear them – too hot), a wool sweaterish jacket and my scarf and down jacket. I was fine walking across the parking lots into my building at work but it would be tough staying out longer! I do NOT wear hats. That would help also! And some nice warm socks and boots! Good luck!
oh wow. i know you guys are going to have so much fun!!! the last time i saw the saints play was in new orleans about 7 years ago…gosh where did the time go???
can’t wait to hear about it and at least it’s finally somewhat winter here so maybe the cold won’t be to bad.
Oh wow!!!! Stacie that’s great!! I’m so thrilled for you! I hope you two have such a good time. My sister lives not far from there :))
Wooooot! Go Saints!
i am so excited for you guys, Stace! what an awesome opportunity!
