Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Thirteen books we own that I have NOT read yet…

Explanation: I’ve been mostly getting books from the library lately, although I have bought several at Barnes and Noble and Target with gift cards. I seem to be the world’s worst about buying a book, then putting it on my nightstand or bookshelf and letting it sit there. I admire it, I dream about reading it, I’m proud to have it there, BUT – I check books out of the library and read them, and get them back by their due date. It’s something about having them available and not on a deadline to return. Something about a goal or completion complex, I’m not sure!

Anyhoo, several of these are listed on the sidebar of my blog. If you’ve ever seen them listed, now you know what they are — books I own but have not read! 🙂

If you’ve read any of these, be sure to leave me a comment and let me know if you liked it or not!

  1. “At First Sight” by Nicholas Sparks
  2. “Twelve Extraordinary Women” by John MacArthur
  3. “The Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren (yes, everyone in America has read this but me!)
  4. “Memoirs of a Geisha” by Arthur Golden
  5. “The Broker” by John Grisham
  6. “A Time to Dance” by Karen Kingsbury
  7. “A Good Yarn” by Debbie Macomber (have read the first one, Shop on Blossom Street)
  8. “Sigma Protocol” by Robert Ludlum
  9. “Nights of Rain and Stars” by Maeve Binchy
  10. “To the Nines” by Janet Evanovich (LOVE these Stephanie Plum books!)
  11. “1776” by David McCullough
  12. “The Last Juror” by John Grisham
  13. “Light on Snow” by Anita Shreve

  1. angela Said,

I have aonly read Thu Purpose Driven Life on your list…and you know what? I am doing Believing God by Beth Moore and most everyone who would ever read it has already read it as well…oh well, it is new to me:-)

  2. Dawn Said,

i’ve never even picked up a copy of The Purpose Driven Life! =O

  3. Robin Said,

Memoirs of a Geisha is a great book…I hope you have the one that was put out before the movie (1998?). I loved the book.

My TT is up as well (but very, very boring).

  4. Karen Said,

I’ve read Memoirs of a Geisha- it’s wonderful… I recommend it to LOTS of people. not the movie, though. I’ve read the John Grishams, but I can’t ever remember which is which. OH, I finished To the Nines yesterday! I want Ranger & Joe…

  5. Lisa Said,

I’ve not read any of those. But I do recommend Gaitskill’s “Veronica” it’s on my all time favorite list.

  6. Gail Said,

You’re gonna have to start reading these instead of checking some out! I think I’ve only read Purpose Driven Life off your list, no wait, I’ve read Time to Dance by Kingsbury too but that’s it! Good list.

  7. Dawn Said,

In the process of reading purpose Driven Life. I see you like John Grisham too:)

  8. Trish Said,

Like almost everyone else – I’ve read Memoirs of a Geisha. 🙂 GREAT book.

    Happy TT!
    Mine are up.

  9. carmen Said,

get going on reading To the Nines! I entered a contest to name her next book. 🙂

  10. Red Queen Said,

Purpose Driven Life is excellent material. Now I am curious about Memoirs of the Geisha. Thanks- I think I have about 10Xs that many books beside my bed calling for attention- dusting off first, the a proper read. Be blessed today.

  11. KarenW Said,

I haven’t read any of those but I’m wondering if 1776 is very accurate. I like books on history.

  12. stephanie Said,

Memoirs of a Geshia was a great book. It is a really long book though. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I always try to read the book first. The book is always better.

    My TT is up.

  13. Pink Chihuahua Princess Said,

I haven’t read any of these, but I’ve heard that 1776 is supposed to be really good.

    Mine are up. Happy Thursday!

  14. Sarah Said,

    Geisha is a good one.

I just remembered I haven’t read Stephanie Plum since 8! Now I won’t remember what was happening, and I’ll have to go to the library and get them all! Too bad… 😉

  15. Laura Said,

You will enjoy Memoirs, and if you are an Anita Shreve fan you will find Light on Snow somewhat “lighter” than the rest of her work.

  16. Lisa Said,

Well, now I know what to get at the library! Thanks!

  17. Red Said,

I haven’t read any of those, but I’ve been reading A Death in Brazil by Peter Robb for about a year now. Of course, in the meantime, I have read another ten or so books, but that one has somehow gotten stuck somewhere.

Your TT has inspired me to pick it up again, so thanks!

Have a great rest of the week!

  18. Christine Said,

I’ve read both Grisham books. He’s one of my favorite authors. Memoirs of a Geisha is one I’d like to pick up too.
    Have a great Thursday!

  19. Bex Said,

Oh, you SO have to read “Memoirs of a Geisha.” I love that book!

  20. Wenchy Said,

Nicholas Sparks always makes me cry!!!

  21. Karen Said,

    Thanks for visiting my TT!
I read on someone else’s blog site that they liked “The Last Juror” by Grisham. I like everything from him…

  22. Missi Said,

Great list! I love Nicholas Sparks and Maeve Binchy!

    Thanks for visiting my TT!

  23. Susan Said,

I’ve read 4 and 12. Both worth reading, but for different reasons. I read #4 thinking it was a *true* story the whole time (I know, I know but I’m just not in touch with the world apparently). Anyways, I was bummed to learn that this character, who is the narrator all through the book, didn’t actually exist. But it’s a great book, the writing is excellent. #6 because I’m a fan and I love a good suspense novel.

I have not read The Purpose Driven life, nor do I intend to. So that makes at least two of us. Happy TT!

  24. ~ Stacy ~ Said,

Well fiddle! I haven’t read any of those, although “Memoirs of a Geisha” is one I may pick up. I have sooooo many books waiting on my shelf, that it almost seems silly to purchase more. Of course, that won’t stop me. I love to read, indeed I do.

  25. wrigley Said,

ha! i’ve never read purpose driven life too. seems like everybody already has. i don’t know why i keep putting it off. i tried like a couple of times or more.

    thanks for dropping by.

  26. wrigley Said,

i’ve seen Memoirs of a Geisha the movie. does that count?
    i loved it.

  27. Janet Said,

The only one on your list that I’ve read is “Memoirs of a Geishaâ€? and I LOVED it!

As for “The Purpose Driven Lifeâ€? I haven’t read it…nor do I intend to! So that makes 4 people in American that haven’t read it 😉

  28. BecK Said,

    This is a good list!
I might have to get a couple of these!
Thanks for stopping at my TT

  29. Jane Said,

The only one of your list that I have read is “To the Nines”. I have read ALL the series. I have “Twelve Sharp” here ready to read.

Sounds like you have some fun days ahead with some good books. Enjoy.

Thanks for stopping by my list for a visit, have a great weekend.

  30. mar Said,

I have read 4, 5 and 12. I mostly go to the library. I have a whole bunch of new books I haven’t opened yet…Happy TT!

  31. Summer Girl Said,

Hee hee! I can relate, well, kinda. I’m still bad about getting them back to the library on time. Being in a book club has helped me get some books finished “in time”! I’ve not read any of those books… sorry! I am reading My Sister’s Keeper which I highly recommend (as if you’ve asked!) 🙂

  32. presentstorm Said,

I have not read Purpose Driven Life… We own it but I have yet to readi t. I have the bad habit of strating about 4 or 5 books at a time..lol Right now I am in that process. Although I am about to finish one…WOOOHOOO… I just do not have as much time anymore it seems. That is since I have discovered blogging..lol

    Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  33. YellowRose Said,

“Memoirs of a Geishaâ€? is great! Loved the book!!! And I love the Stephanie Plum series, I’m no the eleventh book right now! They are so funny! I love the Ranger character and Grandma!! LOL

    Happy Thursday!

  34. kT Said,

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

I read Memoirs years ago — very much liked it, although there are moments where you suddenly become aware that the author, unlike the protagonist, is a man.

I always like Maeve Binchy, got bored with Grisham, and haven’t heard of most of the rest of your books. I buy sometimes (especially at local charity book sales, I can’t help it) but love, love, love my library.

  35. Great Day Said,

The last juror and the broker are both wonderful. Then again I devour anything John Grisham! These are my reads in my book (no pun intended)

  36. goofy girl Said,

That’s a great list- I haven’t read any of your list yet!!

I saw you are watching the 4400! How are you liking it? I think it’s definitely more interesting this season.

  37. Denise Said,

Sounds like a good list. Since I drive 110+ miles to/from work everyday, I listen to a lot of audio books (thanks to the library!). Looks like I have a few to add to my list 🙂
    Happy Thursday!
    Denise

  38. Debi Said,

I’ve read Purpose Driven Life – it’s pretty good. A Time to Dance by Karen Kingsbury is wonderful! I also liked The Last Juror by Grisham. I have The Broker in my TBR. You’re definitely not the only one who buys books and then has them sit on the shelf. I have over 300 books on my shelves that I haven’t read but want to!!

  39. abc momma Said,

I haven’t read Purpose Driven Life, don’t want to either. I just bought 1776 last weekend and started it. Thanks for visiting my site.

  40. southernfriedgirl Said,

    I have read 1,4,5 and 12 – all good.

  41. PixiePincessMom Said,

After you finish Purpose Driven Life; look into Pathway of Purpose for Women by Brazelton………. I’m currently slowly reading it.

Sounds like some good reading; I’ll have to look into it after I finish Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix….. yes I am a few books behind.

  42. Susie Said,

Wow! Lots of great comments here! 🙂

Believe it or not, I haven’t read any of the books on your list. I own “1776” and really do want to read it, I just keep picking up other books first for some reason. I would like to read “Memoirs of a Geisha” first and then see the movie.

  43. Les Said,

What a good idea for a list. We have a ton of books around here!!! Happy TT!

  44. Friday's Child Said,

Neither have I read any of them too.
    Thanks for dropping by.

  45. Lady Jane Said,

I love Nicholas Sparks and have also wanted to read “1776.” Good luck with your reading! Thanks for visiting my list!

  46. Christina Said,

Oooooh, you have to read Memoirs of a Geisha! That is such a fabulous book. (But if you read it, you probably won’t want to watch the movie. It will seem extremely disappointing in comparison.)

My husband has owned a copy of Purpose Driven Life since his college graduation (in 2003) and he hasn’t even picked it up once.

  47. EmilyRoseJewel Said,

Sparks is my favorite fiction author! I have read several of his works, I wonder if At First Sight is that movie? I haven’t read “A Purpose Driven Life” either, but I know it is good. I need to read more, I have several I have started, but not finished. Thanks for stopping by today!

  48. Stacie Said,

I’ve seen some of the movies, but haven’t read any of the books. Great TT, I played too. Stacie

  49. Mandy Said,

I’m not an avid reader and have never heard of any of these. But thnx for sharing your list and happy T13.

Thnx for commenting on my blogger addict post!

    Mandy :=)

  50. Tracie Said,

I’ll admit it too–I have The Purpose Driven Life and have yet to read it.

I have read the Last Juror and it was good.

  51. vanessa Said,

I haven’t read any of these either, not even A Purpose Driven Life.

  52. Ardice Said,

I haven’t read any of these books yet but #2 and #4 are on my Summer list. Thanks for the visit. Have a wonderful weekend….

  53. mominprogress Said,

I need to be more diverse in my reading. I’m more of a Stephen King girl myself.
    Thanks for stopping by.

  54. Peaches Said,

Great list! I would be another one that hasn’t read the Purpose Driven Life – so don’t feel bad. =)

    Thanks for the visit!

  55. Ocean Lady Said,

I do the same thing – buying books and never reading them! That is a great idea to get them from the library that way. 🙂
