Surprise!

Look what Tim came home with last night, just for me!

New Stainless Steel Trashcan for the Kitchen!

Yes, I know… it’s not that big of a deal. But paying that much for a trashcan is a huge deal to me, and even though I had been wanting one, I didn’t think I’d ever get one because we just couldn’t see spending the money on a trashcan. I mean, it’s a garbage can, people. But it looks sooo much better than the old dirty yellowed plastic Rubbermaid one. (I blogged about it here and showed a picture of it, on an older assignment of Stuff Portrait Fridays).

Click on the extended entry to see a couple more pictures and answer a question for me, I’m not sure I want this shape (semi-round) or a rectangular one. Let me know what you think!

OK, here it is out of the box:

New trashcan

And here it is open, I had to step on the foot pedal thing. That is going to take some getting used to!

OK – so do you think I should keep this one that Tim surprised me with, or take it back and get a rectangular one like this. The rectangular one was a wee bit smaller (38 liter vs 40 liter of the semi-round), but I think they are about the same and will hold the same size garbage bag. I have had a rectangular one there for years, so that is what I was leaning toward. Tim liked this one better, I guess, although — when I asked him, he said he didn’t care. At all. 🙂

  1. Stace Said,

OK, I’m thinking now that I will keep this one. In looking at the picture of the rectangular one on Lowe’s website – the foot pedal is just in the middle front, and is a smaller pedal that doesn’t stretch around. Since this garbage can is at the end of my cabinets and I am coming “at it” from the side, it will be harder to step on the foot pedal if it’s smaller and imbedded in the middle of the front of the trashcan. This one has a big foot pedal that comes way out and curves around, and is easier to step on from the side. If that makes any sense.

I also found one at Target’s website that is rectangular, and angled to fit better in my setup. It opens from the side and not the front. It’s a touch-free and has some kind of sensor, but no foot pedal. I showed it to Tim, but he didn’t really like it because he’s like – what if the sensor goes out? How often would we have to change the batteries? It might drive you nuts for it to be opening and closing by the sensor when you walk by? And he’s right. Plus, if and WHEN we get a new dog, I don’t want to make the dog crazy by having the garbage can freaking it out all the time!! 🙂

  2. Gail Said,

I think I vote for this shape, the semi round one, I think it would stick out less.
And this is a big surprise! nice

  3. Dawn Said,

i like the semi-round one too. and just buying stuff for the new house, i think that’s a GREAT surprise! those things are not cheap!

LOL @ the thought of a dog getting freaked out by a garbage can opening & closing all the time…i know mine would. the little nut job lol.

  4. ZuphChic Said,

I have that exact same one…the semi. I love love LOVE it! It was worth every penny!!!

  5. Suzanne Said,

I have a nice simple human can too, and I love the foot pedal………..you know it’s hard to put things in the trash when your hands are full………plus this one fits nicely against the cabinet, flush, as it were. keep it!!

  6. Susie Said,

I have to have one. It’s as simple as that. I love it! 🙂
