Where do you put…?

Some more random questions! I’m slowly trying to work out (in my poor head!) where I’m going to put things in the new house. I’ve lived in my current house 21 years and I can’t seem to figure out where things will go in the new house. So, I have some questions about where YOU put things in your own home!

1) Where do you store onions and potatoes?

2) Do you keep cleaning supplies in each bathroom and the kitchen? Or just have in one space and move around as you clean?

3) Do you keep your jewelry in the bedroom, bathroom or a closet?

4) Do you store spices next to your stove?

  1. Stace Said,

    My answers!

    1) I know they don’t go in the refrigerator. I currently keep mine in a basket on top of the dryer. In the new house, I’m trying to figure out where to store them. I’m leaning towards a two tiered basket on the cabinet in my laundry room, next to the sink. Where do you keep yours? In a basket? In a bag? What part of the house?

    2) I keep a sponge and a can of Scrubbing Bubbles in each bathroom, but move everything else from the kitchen to whereever I need it. Do you split yours up?

    3) Mine are currently in the bedroom, in the top drawers of my dresser. But the new house has more storage in the bathroom and we have a built in dresser in the closet. Plus, I have a friend who has a cool frame thing behind the door in her closet, where she puts earrings, bracelets and necklaces. So cute and functional!

    4) I have always stored spices next to my stove! And I’ve read for years that you shouldn’t store them near heat sources, but I always have. I’m right handed, so mine are always in a cabinet to the right of my cooktop. In the new house, I am going to have some small built-in spice cabinets over the stovetop, so I’ll definitely be storing stuff there. Where do you keep yours?

  2. Gail Said,

On cleaning stuff, I think it helps to have it in each bathroom so you don’t have to drag things around everywhere! It works good for me because 2 bathrooms are upstairs and 1 1/2 are down. I keep 3 vacuums too! One for upstairs, one for tv room and one for downstairs…….then I don’t have to drag up and down the stairs and all around. My jewelry is “mostly” in my closet; some that I wear every day stays on my dresser. I have a frame/old door from a vanity that I’m trying to get Don to put knobs on for me so I can store all my jewelry that way. Knobs across the bottom and the middle already has a wire/grate thing on it that I can hang earrings on.

You know, I think Dodie always kept potatoes and onions in something underneath the sink! Like in a bin type thing, that’s where I remember them being…..at least in the old house. I still have that old tall cabinet thing in my kitchen or on wall between doors in kitchen/breakfast room area and the bottom 2 pullouts are for onions and potatoes.

  3. Karen Said,

    1) I keep mine in a drawer in the kitchen, in the mesh bags that I bring them home in. I try to use as few plastic bags as possible. If I bring them home in plastic, I take them out of them. I don’t know why.

    2) We moved into a small, ranch style house a few months ago. There are two bathrooms, fairly close to one another. I store my cleaning supplies in one of the bathrooms, and just go get them as I need them for the other. Our last house had four bathrooms on three different floors. So, there I kept a set of cleaning supplies in every bathroom.

    3) Now that I have a walk-in closet, I keep most of my jewelry in there, except for special pieces that are in a little box on top of my dresser.

    4) I keep my spices in a drawer right next to the stove. It’s just so convenient. I even bought some jars and labels so they’re all the same. I’m not usually so picky about things, but for some reason I just got a bug to do that!

    Fun questions!

  4. Dawn Said,

(Never mind how behind I am in reading blogs. 😉 )

    1. Onions go in a basket on the kitchen counter. Potatoes are in their bag on the floor of the (tiny little) pantry in the kitchen, because the tile in there is probably the coolest, darkest place in the house.

    2. I keep the bathroom wipes that I use for my daily, post-morning-routine wipe down in the bathroom cabinet underneath my sink (and another pack in the hall bathroom for quick spot checks as needed), but the rest of my cleaning supplies are all in the “cleaning closet” that’s in my laundry room. I just grab what I need for where ever I happen to be cleaning.

    3. I have almost no jewelry. What little I have is in the top drawer of my dresser, except for the things I wear daily (my wedding band and engagement ring, my favorite bracelet, and my cross necklace), which I keep on a pretty little dish I got at Epcot. The dish is on the top of Troy’s bureau, behind the tv, right next to the closet door, so as I am getting ready for bed or dressed in the morning, they are right there, close at hand.

    4. Our spices are away from the stove, in the special sliding spice racks Troy built into the cabinet he made. Once we get around to redoing out kitchen, all the old early 80s laminate cabinets will come out and he’ll put in all solid cherry cabinets to match the one he custom built for us already.
