Some of my Favorite Movies

I saw on the news this morning that writer Nora Ephron passed away. Sad to hear, as she is behind so many of my favorite movies. I have a lot of favorites, but many of them are associated with her:

Sleepless in Seattle
When Harry Met Sally
You’ve Got Mail
Julie & Julia

Some of my other favorites are older movies, like…

Casablanca
Imitation of Life
Out of Africa
The Sound of Music

I have lots of other favorites, but those are always near the top of my list. Depending on my mood, I love to watch movies like my beloved Lord of The Rings movies, Star Wars movies, and then more action type movies like The Bourne movies, Italian Job, etc. When I’m in a girly mood though, Nora Ephron movies can’t be beat!

What are your favorite movies? Do you have movies you love to watch over and over again? 🙂

  1. Shari Said,

I LOVE “You’ve Got Mail,” too. That’s one I can’t resist watching whenever it is on. Also love “Imitation of Life” — the original with Claudette Colbert, not the remake with Lana Turner.

    Other faves…

Shawshank Redemption…probably my number one favorite movie
    The Sound of Music
    Life is Beautiful
Dirty Dancing… can’t help it. It takes me back to my freshmen year in college. 😉
    While You Were Sleeping
    A Philadelphia Story

  2. Sadie Said,

I think I might could recite When Harry Met Sally from memory. It is one of my favorites of all time. I also love Pride & Prejudice, the one with Keira Knightley. I always watch The American President if I happen to find it on TV and also Notting Hill, Sweet Home Alabama, and (my most shameful) Center Stage.

  3. mamichelle Said,

That is sad, I hadn’t heard. Don’t laugh too hard but one of my favs is My Big Fat Greek Wedding! I love a cute comedy. I am not a huge movie buff but some other favorites are Dirty Dancing, Sleepless in Seattle, Pretty Woman, Green Mile, Fever Pitch. I can’t think of anything else at the moment.

  4. Dawn Said,

I own a few that I watch regularly (“Tombstone.” The Steve Martin “Father of the Bride” movies. “Serendipity.” “It’s a Wonderful Life.” — to name a few) but I am more often drawn to re-watching my favorite television shows on DVD. I have all or part of nine shows that I own, and a good 6-8 more that are on my wishlist. Not every show I like qualifies as own-worthy though. It has to be shows I will absolutely watch again and again. It’s a bit of an investment but when Amazon runs a good sale, you can pick them up for a fraction of the regular price, and I truly do watch them, so it’s money well spent for me, albeit a guilty pleasure.

  5. Gail Said,

I was sad to read that the other day about her….I told several people yesterday she died and they all said, “who is that?” Sometimes I know too much useless pop culture stuff. I like all those movies! I have The Sound of Music on dvd but don’t think I’ve ever gotten anyone to watch it with me!
