I’ve blogged before that I’m really fortunate to live in a city that has curbside recycling, and has for over 15 years. They take newspaper, plastic, glass bottles and aluminum/tin cans. They do NOT take paper other than newspaper, so for years and years, I kept just throwing it in the garbage. And hating myself for doing it, but I didn’t have a choice.
Then, I found out that the next little town over (only a mile or so from my house really, since I live on the edge of town!), had drop-off recycling bins at their city fire stations. And that they took not only what my curbside picked up, but they also accepted paper and cardboard.
So, I’ve been breaking down cardboard boxes and going through old magazines and tossing catalogs that come in the mail. I had a big pile in the garage, that I finally loaded up in the SUV and drove to the bin a week or so ago. It felt really good to put all of this stuff in the overflowing recycling bin!
You know I love this post!
Kudos to you for going the extra mile (pun intended!) You are VERY lucky to have curbside recycling. We actually could have it if we were willing to pay extra. I’m fine to haul my stuff to the recycling center every few weeks. I got behind this summer and took 2.5 months worth of stuff to the drop off last weekend. There was barely room in the van for my kids after I loaded the recycling! HA!
I know what you mean– I always have to drive my cardboard and magazines to be recycled. BUt I don’t mind b/c I feel so bad to throw it away.
We have to drive our cardboard and magazines to be recycled, too. I should be grateful there’s a place nearby, but I grump and groan each time the piles get so high and I have to bug someone to do it! I really need to start taking my office paper waste there, too. (insert sheepish look).
I always feel guilty throwing away glass. My city doesn’t accept glass in the curbside pick up, and I don’t know where to drop it off.
