and In with the new!
I’ve blogged before that we make a lot of coffee at our house. Tim has been drinking coffee (black, thank you), since long before I met him. I resisted for a very long time, but a few years ago, learned to drink it, if it is somewhere in the khaki shade 🙂 Lots of Splenda and creamer for me. Anyway, since he started working part-time, and then later, full-time from home, our coffee maker gets quite a workout. We make 12 cups a day, 7 days a week, on average. Some days, I make a second pot, although not as much lately since it’s hotter. And speaking of that, highs every day this week are 97 and 98. UGH!
Anyway, our reliable old Cuisinart, pictured below from a previous post, finally bit the dust:
Actually, it started smoking! Tim said it had a short in it, and the carafe starting boiling, in addition to smoke coming out the back. So, we went that very afternoon to get a new one. We thought we would go to Sam’s Club and buy another one like this, as I always see them in there. However, they didn’t have this one. They had a different Cuisinart, an On Demand one, that doesn’t have an external glass carafe. Tim liked that idea, and so we are giving this one a try. I’ve read some of the reviews on Amazon, and it appears that this new one may not last as long as our old one (3 1/2 or 4 1/2 years), but we’ll give it a go. Tim likes that the coffee stays hotter inside the internal carafe. It’s easy to clean up, and it doesn’t splash at all when you hit the pushbutton to stream the coffee into your cup. The only kicker for me is that it is harder to fill up an internal reservoir/carafe. It was easier to take the glass 12 cup one over to the sink and fill it up 🙂 But, I’ve adapted. You can teach an old dog new tricks!
Here’s the new one:
Which reminds me, I blogged last year about hoping to get new dishes, and I finally did! I have four colors of Fiestaware, that’s the scarlet red one. Maybe I should post about my new dishes. Love having color! 🙂
Have a wonderful day, one and all! 😀
Ooooh, I like the new one! We have your old one, just bought it less than a year ago. Hopefully it won’t give out soon, but when it does it will be nice to have something like this to look forward to. Also LOVE the red fiestware!
Oooh, neat! So the coffee stays inside the machine, and you just pour out as much as you want. Sounds like a great idea.
I’d love to see pictures of your new dishes! The red is really bright and pretty.
Oooh, very nice! That’s a lot of coffee!
We keep talking about getting a duely. My hubby drinks decaf and I drink regular. It’s so hard to make a pot and put it in a carafe and then make another pot. The hard part is that we forget whose coffee is where! LOL
Love that Fiestaware color! So perty!
You know I heart coffee girl. We have a Cuisinart as well. And live it…black and stainless steel…best thing we ever got. I havent seen this one though..i like it.
Hi…I found your blog through Lynne’s (I think!) blog — and since I’m a fan of the mundane…here I am…
I had long wanted a “cup at a time” coffeemaker and recently purchased the same one (also at Sam’s) — but I’m afraid I did not like it. I had taken my old Krups one to our lake house and was planning on using the new one here at home…I ended up swapping them — since I’m not at the other house as much, I figured it wouldn’t annoy me as much there. I was really disappointed in the Cuisinart — I had trouble with coffee grounds getting into the coffee (perhaps my fault but never had this problem before) and the coffee didn’t stay warm long enough (the Krups has a thermal carafe so the coffee stays warm well into the afternoon). Anyway, just my personal experience.
Ooo! Very sleek!
I have never heard of a smoking coffee pot – we had a smoking mixer once, but not a coffeepot!
Love your Fiestaware…
Nice! and I like the fiestaware color as well. I always want a new coffee pot but for all I make it, I can’t justify it. So I’m stuck wtih my free Gevalia one that a friend gave me. I love the no-carafe idea though!
What a way to get a new coffee maker…make the old one smoke! Y’al have a much fancier one than my parents…they’re old school!
