Food and Flowers

You gotta love this time of year! It can sometimes be about flowers and chocolate. 😀

Tim surprised me on Thursday, and said he wanted to take me out for an early Valentine’s dinner at Biaggi’s, which is one of our favorite places. We don’t go out for Valentines Day any more. We did when we were dating and the first few years we were married. Then, one year on Valentines Day, we waited two hours for a table, then had mediocre food and service at a place that normally has wonderful food and excellent service. That did it for us – we decided we’d just as soon stay at home and grill a steak and not feel compelled to go out for a nice dinner on that day, just because someone else says we should. We certainly go out to eat plenty of other times during the year.

It was a nice surprise though, and we had a good dinner. Then, we went to Fresh Market afterwards, another place I love. I told Tim, if we were rich, I’d shop in there every week! But, it’s nice to save it for splurges or special things. I love food and love to shop for food, so that place is heaven for me.

Here’s a few pictures, always more fun than my long boring posts!

Red tulips for me, and a box of truffles Tim bought me at Fresh Market:

And the tulips up close:

You can’t tell what’s in here, but this is our leftovers from Biaggi’s. That’s either today’s lunch or tonight’s supper! Tim had shrimp and crab cannelloni and I had penne sardi. Both delicious!

We picked up some gourmet brownies from the bakery in Fresh Market which will be our Valentines dessert (we’re grilling out ribeyes and will have salad, sweet potatoes and grilled asparagus for dinner):

Lastly, we got a new happy to fill our crystal candy dish in the den… at Christmas, we got soft peppermint sticks from Fresh Market, then after that, we got some organic truffles. Now, we got a big thing of chocolate covered peanuts, one of their “Items of the Month” up front:

Can you tell that I’ve been craving chocolate lately?!

Anyway, we’ve already had one Valentines celebration here, with dinner out and all these goodies. We’ll have another Saturday night. How about you? Do you have plans for Valentines Day? Eating in or out or something special with your spouse and/or kids? Hope you have a wonderful weekend, whatever you do 😀

  1. mamichelle Said,

Oh, I just posted about ours. We normally stay home for the same reason you do. I usually get gourmet chocolates from my favorite homemade candy store. I told him not to purchase this year because I’m dieting finally!

Your leftovers and candy look fantastic! I’m drooling here. Enjoy the flowers and truffles and have a great weekend!

  2. deb Said,

Scott and I do have plans for Valentine’s Day including dinner out and a movie. He surprised me with flowers and candy (sent to my office at work), so I’ve had a really nice early Valentine’s, too! We have a little extra money this week, so we’re going to treat ourselves because we deserve it lol!

    Your tulips are so pretty!

    Happy Valentine’s 🙂

  3. cam Said,

Nice tulips! I’m usually not big on getting flowers, but when I do get them, Philip usually gets tulips.

I don’t think we’ve ever gone out on Valentine’s day, for the same reasons y’all no longer do. I hate the crowds, especially.

We usually don’t do anything for each other on V-day, but I always get or bake some kind of treat for all of us, plus I always get Gray a little something- last year it was a stuffed animal from the dollar bin at Target, this year it’s a 2-pack of bubbles for him to play with outside. And I always get the conversation hearts; for some reason I love those little things.

Yay for Fresh Market! Those brownies look sooo good. And the peanuts- I love those! When I was at Fresh Market in Destin, I bought a chocolate-covered pecan trio mix: it had whole pecans covered in milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and white chocolate. I LOVE those!!!

  4. Gail Said,

The tulips are so pretty! I saw those while I was there but not the candy obviously! Good thing y’all waited on that til I was gone so I wouldn’t eat it. I did mean to go to Fresh Market but forgot.
I think anything you get from Biaggi’s is bound to be good, have a good weekend!

  5. Sandra Said,

I LOVE tulips 🙂 And look at all those yummies you got too 🙂

  6. annie Said,

    I love tulips! Now I’m hungry 🙂

  7. JEN Said,

I get to go to a Valentine Girls Brunch this morning….i’m very excited about this. But tonight I’m grilling steaks and making a shrimp pasta dish and salad with bread…a pie with strawberrys….a movie here with the kids and its a perfect evening for me…
Your night sounds great…have a good weekend.

  8. Desert Songbird Said,

Hubby and I don’t usually have plans; we play it by ear every year. This year was going to be the first one we had alone since the kids were born, but the plans for the boy fell through. So we went out to eat last night just the two of us, and he bought me roses as a surprise when he ran into Trader Joe’s for milk. No chocolate, though!

  9. Kimmy Said,

    Tulips are my favorite!

We don’t do much for Valentine’s Day. We try to avoid the crowds as much as possible, and usually order in if we can. Today we have plans for dinner and a movie, just because. We actually forgot it was Valentine’s Day when we first made our plans. Now, we have to try to go out without hitting the crowds. We’ll probably look for an obscure, less crowded restaurant and hit a matinee.

    Happy Valentine’s Day!

  10. Claire Said,

I love tulips!!! Don’t have any plans but I’m about to go to Fresh Market! Happy Valentines Day!

  11. YellowRose Said,

The tulips are gorgeous! And well, chocolate anything works for me! 😉 Hubby and I are like you two, we go out to eat so much that on Valentines it’s usually a disappointment so we usually don’t go out. We are actually going to the casino tonight just to do something fun. LOL Plus I haven’t been out in over a week!!

  12. Lauren@Baseballs&Bows Said,

Tulips are my favorite! Sounds like you had a wonderful time. Happy Valentine’s Day!

  13. Heidi @ GGIP Said,

The tulips are lovely! I agree that if you are going to go out for V day you should go out another night! Glad you had so much fun. Love the candy! Yum!

  14. Jill Said,

Love the tulips…so pretty. They’re my favorite flower. Hubby and I went out on Valentine’s Day and the meal and service were TERRIBLE. *ugh* But the company was good…and that’s the most important thing!

  15. Kim Said,

Lovely tulips and even lovelier truffles!! 🙂 It sounds like you celebrated in your own special way.

We met my parents and sister and her husband for dinner on Valentine’s Day. It is my dad’s 73rd birthday this month and it was the only weekend we were all free to get together. We had a yummy dinner and great waiter and actually sat in that restaurant for a little over 3 hours without any pressure to leave!

I always give my boys a gift back with a card, chocolate and a new book. I gave Kerry some See’s chocolate (THE best ever), and a book I didn’t get for him at Christmas time. He pre-ordered two books on my wish list being released this month for me, re-ordered Bookmarks magazine for me and gave me a little bag of chocolates.

I am glad to see your blog back up–I missed coming for a visit! 🙂

  17. Shawna Said,

So sweet of Tim. Love the flowers! Matt took Lianna and I out to eat. He got me some candles and candy. We don’t eat at the fancy places anymore, especially on Valentine’s. We went to a small pizzaria on the square that has the best stroganoff and no wait time! We both hate to wait, epecially with a three-year old. We had a good time. And like you, we eat out a lot, so not going fancy was no big deal.

  18. mamichelle Said,

Hey Stacy, check out my blog when you have a chance. I left an award for you! 😉

  19. Kim Said,

I love the red background! VERY classy. I can’t believe you had an outside temperature of 77!! That is like a hot summer day for us! It is going to be in the 20’s here tonight–brrr…
    Whatcha been reading?
    *smiles*
