After the Holiday

It’s always just the slightest bit of a letdown to me after Christmas is over. We had three nice celebrations this year, and a wonderful Christmas. We went to my in-laws, to my sister’s and were actually able to stay home on Christmas Eve this year, which is a rare treat. Normally we travel on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but we had a great day to ourselves on Christmas Eve. I made my traditional sticky buns for breakfast, then a ham and several side dishes for our big Christmas meal at home.

After it’s all over though, I always have mixed emotions. For one thing, the tree always looks so lonely and sad with no presents under it. I still love seeing the tree and all the decorations and lights, but some part of me always wants to go ahead and get things taken down and put up for the year. My mom always took down the tree before the New Year, so we never left ours up for Epiphany. I am that same way, so I’m trying to decide when to take it all down. I started this morning, picking up a few things, but I still have a ton left to do. Just taking apart and packing up my Snow Village is a job 🙂

So, how about you… did you have a wonderful Christmas at your house? When does your tree and decorations come down? Soon after Christmas, by New Years, by Epiphany, or sometime after that? Vote and let me know!

Oh, and by the way, I’m trying out a new winter look on the blog – what do you think? Let me know if you have problems viewing anything 🙂 It’s sort of odd for me to be putting up this new look, considering it’s 76 degrees here right now. We spent most of our Christmas in short sleeves, as it’s been really warm here lately. Doesn’t feel like winter at all!

Have a great day!

The new look is pretty and bright!

Our tree will come down tonight probably. I can’t stand it any longer. The power outage killed it! It’s so dry and ugly looking. I am always anxious to get my house back to normal after Christmas.

  2. Kimmy Said,

    Love the new look!

I used to try to keep the tree up until New Year’s, but I get quite anxious to have my house back in order once Christmas is all over. Since my husband is off until Monday, I’ll probably take it down then.

  3. Shawna Said,

Isn’t the weather strange?! Freezing cold to breezy warm. I actually prefer a cold Christmas. It just seems strange when it’s not. We’ll probably take our tree down before New Years since we may be having a New Year’s Eve party. I love the new look of your site. Have a Happy New Years!

  4. Sandra Said,

My tree and all the inside decorations are packed away LOL I don’t like leaving it up after Christmas is over, so today I got it all done and tomorrow I’ll tackle the outside stuff.

  5. Belle (from Life of a...) Said,

We had a good few days also…will leave the tree up another day or two and then get everything put away so that we can relax the last couple of days before going back to work and school. I like the new look!

  6. JEN Said,

I’m glad you all had a nice Christmas. We did as well. We havent taken the decor down just yet. But it will come down before New Years Eve. Scott is off work so he will take the outside down tomorrow probably.

  7. Becca Said,

I love the new look! Very pretty! We have had some very cold, snowy weather here in Oregon, not normal for us, and it will be nice to see green and warmth again.

We didn’t put up a tree this year since we are going to be traveling soon, and honestly, for some reason, neither of us could get in the holiday spirit to do it this year. We did get to enjoy seeing a lot of other people’s efforts, and that was more than enough for us.

  8. Dianne Said,

Did you know my favorite color is green? So of course I love the new look!

I didn’t put a tree up this year so no bother about taking it down. That’s nice but I did miss having one. I’ll have to figure things out better for next year. I didn’t take any extra days around the holidays this year and now I’m kind of regretting it but I do have another 4-day weekend coming up and I’m looking forward to it.

Sounds like you had a nice Christmas – something nice about being home with just the two of you to celebrate at least part of it. That’s always my favorite part for me and Mike!

  9. Dawn Said,

I voted by Ephiphany because that’s the closest for me, but it’s usually the weekend right after Epiphany. I hate taking it down though. It makes me sad. So the tree comes down then but the rest of my decorations stay up all Winter. Snowmen & snowflakes don’t have to go away yet! Maybe it will make me feel cooler to see them anyway. It was 82 & humid on Christmas Eve & Day–I was wearing a tank top & capris!!

  10. annie Said,

You’re right. The tree is sad without presents!

  11. Karen Said,

the house does feel rather empty the day after Christmas. But, in a good way. For me, it’s a time when all the hustle and bustle is done, I don’t have a lot planned and I can sit and enjoy the tree without thinking about what I should be doing next. I’ll probably take all the decorations down the weekend after new year’s. I like to leave the tree up until Epiphany, but it’s nice to have things “back to normal” when the kids start school again. It helps get them (and me) in the mood!

  12. Kim Said,

I agree—the tree looks lonely once the gifts are gone! I voted that I would have it all down by New Years, and I am hoping to actually getting to it by then–but since New Years is in the middle of the week, I may wait until next Friday. Some years I am more anxious than others to get it all down, and this is not one of those years–although it MUST be done before I go back to work on the 5th.

It sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas, and I am glad you and Tim had some sweet couple time without all that traveling.
    *smiles*
    Kim

  13. Gail Said,

I usually take mine down shortly after New Year’s day, I like the idea of leaving until Epiphany!
We had fun, glad y’all came up. I have used empty wrapped boxes under the tree to make it not look so empty but usually before christmas………after Christmas I sometimes put a few unwrapped gifts in boxes back up under the tree, or a train would be fun!
I can see everything fine here, looks like it can be changed by us too?

  14. Desert Songbird Said,

We had rain on Christmas, and then it temps dropped so low, we were under a hard freeze warning for two days. I think today’s temp is expected to be around 63.

If I had my way, Christmas decorations would stay up until Epiphany since that is the true end of the season, but hubby takes them down before he goes back to work in early January.

  15. Lauren@Baseballs&Bows Said,

We have had a great Christmas, but we are not finished. We celebrate more tomorrow. After that, there will be no more presents under the tree. It does make me sad. I told my husband that I am so glad my son has a January birthday because it gives me something to look forward to!

  16. Heidi @ GGIP Said,

What a fun new blog design. We had a good christmas too. I sometime feel let down too, but this year I am just happy to be back home to normal.

  17. ZuphChic Said,

I love, love, LOVE the new look! I especially like the design of the sidebar…it’s so easy to use and catch up on all you’ve been doing/seeing/reading! 🙂

Did you do it yourself? I’ve been wanting to change mine for awhile but am too afraid to try it myself. Maybe if I changed my look, it would inspire me to blog more…maybe…
