I finished the books I set out to read for the Winter Holiday Reading Challenge (original post here). I also read a book entitled “My Mother’s Wish: An American Christmas Carol”, which was very short and pretty decent, but was not my favorite of the books I read. My original three books I chose were more to my liking. I tend to like really sweet, really old-fashioned, easy books, especially at this hectic time of year.

The books I completed were:

1) Till Morning is Nigh by Leisha Kelly (part of the Wortham Family series of books I am reading)
2) A Cedar Cove Christmas by Debbie Macomber (part of the Cedar Cove series, fit in nicely after the 8th book I recently finished)
3) The Spirit of the Season by Dana Corbit (part of the Grace Chapel Inn series I am reading)

As you can see, these all fit in with current series that I am reading, so that was an added bonus for me. Irregardless, I really enjoy reading holiday books this time of year and am glad that I got a chance to participate in this challenge. I hope to do it again next year.

For the record, I’ve completed 85 books so far this year, for a total of 27,320 pages. I have started another book (“Sugar Cookie Murder” by Joanne Fluke, one of the Christmas offerings in a series of cozy mysteries that I am reading) and will probably finish it before the year is out. The really odd, anal side of me wishes that I wouldn’t read it or another book. I like round numbers, people. 85 is a round number, 86 or 87 is not, LOL! Anyway, I have so many more books to read, and I’m looking forward to turning the calendar to January and starting on a new goal for 2009. 🙂

Happy Reading!

  1. Write From Karen Said,

I’m not worthy! I’m not worthy!

I just counted up the number of books I read this past year – 32.

PATHETIC! My goal for next year: 33. *grin*

Okay seriously, more than 32. Sheesh. I’m embarrassed to write that number.

Good job on your 85!!!! Quite impressive!

That’s it. My goal is to beat that number next year.

    Maybe … *grin*

  2. YellowRose Said,

WTG! I haven’t kept a complete list of what I read, I should but I think it’s around 65 and that includes re-reads of some series, Outlander, Harry Potter and Twilight.

I remember when I was in 6th grade I was in a read-a-thon, I won, I read 465 books. I wish I had the time to read like that again!

Have you read Twilight or Outlander? Outlander series is GOOD!!!

  3. Karen Said,

I’m not even going to count the number of books I’ve read this year. I’m too embarrassed. But, I will try to do better next year! I can’t wait to read Cedar Cover Christmas. It’s coming in the mail from another sweet blogger I just met. I love the Cedar Cove books. It’s fun reading light-hearted, mushy books about Christmas. I love them as much as all the Hallmark and Lifetime movies at this time of the year.

  4. Kimmy Said,

85 is impressive! I’m up to 57 or so I think. My goal the last few years has been 50, but I’m going to up the stakes to 75 next year. And, I thought that was big! 85 is amazing! Good job!

I didn’t like My Mother’s Wish too much either. It was okay, not what I expected.

  5. Susanne Said,

Wow. That is amazing. I don’t think I’m going to be near my goal, but I did get some good ones read this year.

  6. joanne Said,

Great list. Have you ever read A Redbird Christmas, by Fannie Flagg? It’s so heartwarming, and short! Maybe you can add it to your total. Enjoyed your post & browsing here.

  7. Dianne Said,

Wow, that’s a ton of books! I can’t even try to compete. But I’m not following you on the round number thing . . . is my math memory that bad? I personally am an odd number girl. 😉

  8. claire Said,

You and all your books! I’m still trying to finish Les Miserables! I’ve tagged you at my site!

  9. Karen Said,

I’ve read all the Cedar Cove books, too. Can’t wait to get into this next one. BTW, there’s something for you over at my place:)

  10. Kara Said,

Maybe if you just forget everyhting else and read until the end of the year you could get to 90 so you could have a nice round number! And I feel like a total slacker – I have only read 55 books this year and I thought I read exceptionally fast! 85 is amazing!

  11. mamichelle Said,

Wow, that’s amazing! I am on my 27th book and I’m just about done. I hate ending on an odd number. I’m such an even person! LOL

I’m reading The Christmas Train by David Baldacci (I think?). It’s ok but I’m not zipping through. Maybe I’ll end on 26 after all.

  12. Diane (bookinhand) Said,

    Stacy,
Thanks for joining in on the holiday reading fun!
    Diane

  13. Shawna Said,

I haven’t been able to read a book since September. I even got a couple new ones for Christmas: Sticks and Stones & Widows and Orphans both by Susan Meissner. I’m so behind!

  14. Maria Said,

Congrats on completing the challenge! I think I’ve read 65 books so far this year. It really should count as more, as some of the books in the Twilight series were seriously long! I’m signing up for at least one reading challenge for 2009. Check my blog and consider joining too!
