Insert Catchy Title Here

Obviously I couldn’t think of a good title. I’ve used “Odds and Ends”, “Catching Up” and “This and That” so much that I probably have double digit posts under each of blog post names 🙂 But that’s what this is, a various and assorted post.

It’s cold here this morning and was pretty chilly all weekend. I feel the need to go buy warm sweaters and sweatshirts! We’ve done really good though, and have not turned on our heat yet. It’s cold at night, but we sleep under a big quilt, and we’ve just been sucking it up in the AM until the house warms up in the middle part of the day.

We went to see Quantum of Solace over the weekend. I had read a review that probably pre-disposed me to it before we went. The review said this was more “Bourne than Bond”, and I have to agree, although I love all three of the Bourne movies. But this one had a fair amount of hand-held camera work in parts of it and that bothers me sometimes. It was a good movie though, typical Bond, high-action, and we did enjoy it.

We’ve also rented a couple of new movies lately from Netflix. We really liked “Get Smart” quite a bit, didn’t enjoy “What Happens in Vegas” all that much, and Tim watched the newest version of “The Incredible Hulk.”. We also just finished Season 5 of The Gilmore Girls, and will start Season 6 soon.

We got a new window, courtesy of Tim and his brother Terry, a couple of weeks ago:

I spent a gift card I got for my birthday (thanks Mark and Amanda!) at Target, and got a small rice cooker to try out. I fixed some Chinese food over the weekend, and white rice, and it was good. I’m going to look for some new stir fry recipes to try. If you have one, let me know! Also, I think I may try to make some red beans and rice this winter and use it for that also. Here’s my little cooker with rice:

I’ve read several books lately, and have been entering them over at GoodReads. If you’re not hooked up with me there, and want to know more about what I’ve read, just leave me a comment and let me know. I’m currently reading the first book I chose for the Winter Holiday Reading Challenge, “Until Morning is Nigh” by Leisha Kelly. This book is part of a series I’m reading and that I’m really enjoying 🙂

And I hate to end on a sad note, but today is not the most joyous of days for me. Today would have been my mom’s birthday, so I’m a bit sad today. It’s always hard this time of year, through the holidays, and around Mother’s Day. I wonder if there will ever come a time when I don’t miss her…

Well. I hope you’re all having a good day! 🙂

  1. Gail Said,

Not turned on your heat yet? I had to here! If I hadn’t, the people here would have kicked me out by now! I think my house must be harder to heat/cool than yours with the higher ceilings…D & E keep complaining big time about how cold it is.
I’m the same way about today I think..it’s been on my mind. But hey! What if Nichole and Kirk have their baby today! Wouldn’t that be something.

  2. Brit' Gal Sarah Said,

Hugs to you on this sad anniversary. We felt the exact same way about Bond too.
And a very nice new window.

  3. Meredith Said,

I’m sorry about your mom…I understand how sad that can be. (((Hugs)))

Sounds like you had a fun weekend! So happy for you. I really want to see that James Bond movie!

  4. Meredith Said,

Stacy…I have a good movie recommendation for you. Put “Bella” in your queue. It is very, very good! Very clean too.

  5. Lisa Said,

Have you used “Rambling” yet? That’s what I usually go for in my rambly posts.

    I’m sorry about your mom.

  6. YellowRose Said,

We finally turned the heat on this weekend…it got cold!

As for your title, just use one like Mundanes Mumblings and that way you don’t have to try to think of a title when you do a this and that post. 😉

I’m sorry you are sad today, your mom had to be a very special woman, not only did she have you, but she shared my birthday! 😉 Sending you a big hug!

  7. mamichelle Said,

    Hey, nice window!

So sorry it’s a rough day for you. Big hugs.

I always use the same titles too. Mine are “misc. or misc. ramblings, updates”, etc.

  8. Jill Said,

That’s sad about your mom – I am sure you miss her so much. I’ve recently been watching Season 1 & 2 of Brothers and Sisters and really enjoyed it. I’m not much of a DVD watcher (can’t stay awake!) but think I’ll check out another series when I’m done with B&S.

  9. sherry Said,

I love my rice cooker and I use it all the time. I LOVE the Gilmore Girls! Their banter reminds me of my bestest friend and my goddaughter!

You asked about which Debbie Macomber book I’m getting — I forgot. LOL Heart of Texas or something with Texas?

And the ham and lentil soup — it was ok. I reviewed it on my blog!

I’ve been too busy watching McLeod’s Daughters to read for the past week! I’m getting behind!

    Sherry

  10. Becca Said,

We don’t have a rice cooker, but we make a mean risotto in our crockpot. I am sorry about the loss of your mom, I wonder how we all get along sometimes. Think kind thoughts and know that she is watching over you, today and every day.

  11. Kara Reed Said,

    Nice new window!

I am sorry it is a sad day for you – thinking of you.

  12. Kimmy Said,

I’m sorry you are hurting. I lost my mom just five months ago, and I am not looking forward to all the “firsts” I have to go through without her, especially the coming holidays.

    *hugs*

  13. annie Said,

I have a rice cooker that I’ve been using for years. I love it and can’t imagine cooking rice the old way… I buy stir fry veggies at Sam’s. It comes with sauce and I usually add some chicken or something and serve it over rice. Curry chicken is good over rice too… or black beans over rice with salsa on top.

  14. Desert Songbird Said,

I got a rice cooker a few years ago, and while it’s convenient, I hate the mess it makes with the sputtering of the steam venting. I now buy pre-cooked jasmine rice that is frozen in bags; it’s easy to reheat in the microwave.

  15. JEN Said,

I always have a hard time with titles too….I get tired of the same ole ones….I’m sorry about your moms birthday…it has to be hard.
On the rice cooker….and a recipe..I dont have one…sorry….Madison wont eat rice so we dont cook it…..hope your day today is brighter.

  16. Dawn Said,

I hope you’re feeling better today. The “special” days are always the toughest to remember.

Do you know that I haven’t turned my heat on in almost seven years! It was 31 outside when I woke up this morning. I just bundle up in a cozy blanket or put on a sweatshirt or bake something. =) I refuse to turn my heat on in Florida if I can stay safely warm any other way.

  17. Maria Said,

    Stacy,
I’m sorry about missing your mom. I know exactly how you feel, esp. now at the holidays. I hope you have wonderful memories to comfort and sustain you. Hugs to you.

  18. heather Said,

on the last part…not sure how long she has been gone…my mom has been gone for what will be 10 years this coming february (she died does days before her 50th bday) and it does not got easier…i almost say it gets harder each year.
