QOTD – On the Menu

Chef We went to eat at Chili’s over the long holiday weekend. They had a new menu and I was rather dismayed that they took my favorite salad off the menu, but that they also got rid of the lettuce wraps! I really loved getting those there and did often. At least they left the molten lava cakes on the dessert menu! They had the regular chocolate one and then a new white chocolate one. We stuck to the tried and true though!

My all-time favorite thing to get at Chili’s hasn’t been available on their menu in at least five years. For years, I loved getting the tuna sandwich – a grilled fillet of tuna on a whole wheat bun with the best sauce on it. I can’t even remember now what the sauce/aioli/mayo was, but it was delicious. I moaned for years that they took it off the menu 🙁

Don’t cha just hate it when you get used to ordering a favorite dish at a restaurant and then they take it off the menu? Has that happened to you? That’s today’s Question of the Day – leave me a comment and let me know what you miss!

  1. Lynne Said,

Not so much a restaurant taking something I liked off the menu, but moving to a new location and not being able to get the foods that I’ve loved.

When we moved from Philadelphia to Kentucky, I couldn’t find things like Taylor Pork Roll and a really good hoagie or steak sandwich. Then down to Atlanta, and the same problem. I can find steak sandwiches (Philly steaks they’re called), but they’re not the same. Wrong bread, wrong meat, wrong cheese. I’ve finally found a place that does them the right way. Now I’m looking for a good hoagie. I have found Taylor Pork Roll at Publix, so I’m happy about that.

The things I really miss the most are Tastycake and Tastypies. They’re a Philly staple. The last time I was up in that area, I filled a big bag with them to bring home. I think I brought 43 different things!

  2. Dawn Said,

There use to be a stir fry that was on the Chili’s menu a long time ago that I loved and they took it off. It’s been a while since I’ve been there but we’ve been saying we were going to check out the one in Madison. When On The Border closed one of the guys that’s been there since we started going there said that’s where he was going. We just haven’t made it out that far yet 🙁

Ok all this talk about food is getting me hungry 🙂

  3. Sandra Said,

It hasn’t happened to me yet, but I haven’t been to Chili’s in a while and I LOVED the wraps. Now I’m irritated that they’ve removed them. That’s just wrong LOL

  4. amy Said,

I miss French onion soup from Ruby Tuesdays. How dare they!

  5. Gail Said,

I don’t eat out often enough to have that happen, and well, we don’t really have restaurants here, just fast food places! But I did have that tuna thing one time, I think when I was with you guys at the chili’s in hburg when Dodie was sick. You told me how good it was…..I think it came as a sandwich but you could also get it as a meal maybe? It was good! I suppose there’s a reason places do this but I don’t really like that they do it. If they take the lava cakes off, there will be a revolt!
Now foods I buy in the store and then you can’t find, that happens to me all the time!

  6. Lauren@Baseballs&Bows Said,

It actually happened to me at Chili’s too! They used to have a pasta dish that I loved, but they took it off the menu. I was so disappointed!

  7. Heidi Said,

I know that has happened to me, but I can’t remember what.

I would write them and tell them how much you enjoyed it though. Who knows, maybe it will soon return???

  8. Shawna Said,

I’m still upset that they took the steak fingers off the menu at Bonanza (changed to Ponderosa – may all be out of business by now). That’s what I used to get as a child. I hate when they switch up the menu at Applebee’s, too.

  9. Laura Said,

Yes yes yes! My FAVORITE salad at Rainforest Cafe went off the menu at the Las Vegas location – and I was ecstatic to discover it was still on at the Anaheim location. 😉
However – most places will still make old dishes for you, if you ask!

  10. jen Said,

hmmmmm…well they took our Ruby Tuesday’s away so that means the whole menu….lol…

  11. Karen Said,

CB&Potts used to have a sandwich that was grilled salmon on sour dough bread with a dill sauce that was out of this world. Yum! And, to follow up Lynne’s comment, I miss the Taylor’s roll, too, that we used to have “back east”. It was my favorite thing to have on a Kaiser roll ( and you can’t find good Kaiser rolls in Colorado either).

  12. Debi Said,

You know, I don’t think that’s ever happened to me…thank goodness! But it sure did hurt for a few years after we moved up here when there wasn’t a decent Mexican restaurant within a 5 county area. Thankfully, that situation has been resolved! 🙂

  13. annie Said,

I used to love pickle-o’s at sonic … they don’t have them anymore 🙁

  14. mamichelle Said,

I hate when that happens too! The meal that comes to mind for me is the steak salad at Applebee’s. It had bleu cheese on it and it was delish. WHY did they have to take it away?!! I’m getting hungry!

  15. Christy Said,

I miss resteraunts in general. Moving to a smaller area after living in Jackson is hard because I still want to eat at Char, Amerigos, Ruby Tuesdays, ect…

  16. Susanne Said,

I’m sure it has happened but I can’t think of it right off the bat. I love Chili’s. We just discovered them a couple of years ago and have to go to the big city to go there but once a year we sure get a nice treat when we get to go. Does Chili’s have a “contact us” button on their website. You know what they say: Each comment is representative and so many thousands of people. Maybe they’ll bring it back.

  17. Jenny A. Said,

This is a little thing, but I liked fried ravioli at the Jack-in-the-Box. Those were so unique and I liked them. Now there’s nothing special at J-i-t-B to draw me there. 🙁
