Book Talk

Well, I haven’t talked about books much lately. I’ve been reading quite a bit, so I have a bunch to catch up on! I’ll as brief as I possibly can, though 😀

In my last book-related post (over a month ago), I blogged briefly towards the end that I had picked up several books at the library. I read them all, picked up a few more in the next week or so, and enjoyed them all! I read:

The Secret Between Us by Barbara Delinsky – I really liked this one. Good plot, good characters, and it was a very quick read for me.
The Miracle at Speedy Motors by Alexander McCall Smith – the latest in the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series; always a good read
Courting Trouble by DeeAnne Gist – a Christian historical fiction book, set in Texas in the late 1800’s; I liked it and hope to get the follow-up book
Miss Julia Paints the Town by Ann B. Ross – if you’ve read a single Miss Julia book, you know how great they are!
Twenty Wishes by Debbie Macomber – a Blossom Street book; I love these books. Great characters, easy, comfortable read
Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear – recommended to me and I did like it. First of a series about a lady detective in England in the 30’s, part psychologist, part detective
Looking for Cassandra Jane by Melody Carlson – a very different themed book than what I normally read, but I did really like it. Cassandra Jane is a very lost girl of the 60’s and 70’s, with no family to speak of, who gets sucked into a cult.
A Penny for your Thoughts and Don’t Take Any Wooden Nickels by Mindy Starns Clark – the first two of the Million Dollar mysteries. I really loved these, but my library doesn’t have the rest in the series. Boo-hoo

I’ve also read several of my own books, from my overflowing TBR shelf. I’ve read:

Maggie Sweet by Judith Minthorn Stacy. Ugh, I did not like this book. Not my style of writing or storyline.
74 Seaside Avenue by Debbie Macomber – I love the Cedar Cove books and am now waiting on the next one due out later this year
Blueberry Muffin Murder by Joanne Fluke – third in the Hannah Swenson cozy series; fun, easy books, with recipes as an added bonus
Last Light by Terri Blackstock – first of the Restoration series; awesome book! Hard to put down and I’m on the wait list for the rest at the library. I may break down and buy them though!

Lastly, another library run.

I had another book on the waiting list at the library and when it came in, I went ahead and picked up a few more! I got:

Bulls Island by Dorothea Benton Frank – I really enjoyed it, but then again, I’ve liked all of her books that I’ve read so far
Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen
Comfort Foods by Kate Jacobs
Lemon Meringue Pie Murder by Joanne Fluke
The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen

For the record, I’ve completed 41 books so far this year, for a total of 13,638 pages read. I’m going to finish up the last four of these library books, and then try to go back to my TBR pile and read some books that I have here. I just started “Garden Spells” and have only read a couple of dozen pages, but I do think I’m going to like it. So far, the word I would use is “enchanting”. 🙂

Happy Reading!

Wow! I’m impressed with how much you’ve been reading. I go though periodic spurts of reading. Now that the kids are going to the library on a weekly basis (we do this every summer), I can catch up on some reading.

  2. Michael - Lover of Amy Said,

Love the Blossom Street books as well. Cant wait to read 20 wishes

  3. amy Said,

Oops that was me not Michael that posted above

  4. Debi Said,

Garden Spells is one I really want to read! And someone just offered to send me Sugar Queen, and I’m really excited to get it! Though when exactly I’ll get to it, I have no idea…that whole too many books, too little time thing…I’m sure you can relate. 🙂

  5. Susanne Said,

Man you rip through books. I cannot believe how fast you read and how many books you’ve read already this year. I really need to get that series from Terri Blackstock I haven’t read anything from her in a long while and I remember really liking her.

  6. Eileen Said,

  7. Gail Said,

You’ve got some good ones there, ones I can check on later. You are really going through the books! Time to slow down and get out to enjoy some other fun things too!

Holy Smokes, Indy! I can’t believe how much you read. I’m so impressed!!!

  10. Coach Jenny Said,

Oh, I have the Million dollar something or another by Mindy Starns Clark, but can’t find the first 3. I won’t even begin to read it until I have the others. I’ll join that pity party!!

  11. Amy Said,

Wow! You read soooo much more than me. I want to read that many books! That is crazy!

I will have to add these to my Good Reads list!

  12. Maria Said,

What a great post! I really enjoyed seeing it. I’ve read many of those books (esp. the Blossom St. and Joanna Fluke ones) and there are many titles new to me. I’ve put some on my “to read” list. I’m behind on the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series again. UGH! I’ll never catch up.

I’ll have to do a book talk post on my blog by the end of June. I’ve read quite a bit now that my master’s is done. Yeah!
