QOTD – End of the Book

Books Well, I was sorry to see that there was no new Friday Feast today. I probably could have surfed around and found a substitute, or even tried to recycle an old one, but instead, I thought I’d ask a “Question of the Day“. I haven’t done one of these in a while. I actually sort of ran out of interesting ideas. Maybe, since my blog is over 3 years old, I’ll have to go back and recycle some of the more popular ones that I’ve asked before 🙂

In the mean time, here’s one that I’ve been meaning to ask:

Have you ever read the ending of a book before you actually got to the end?

This is not something I have ever done. I always, always flip ahead though and see what page number is the last page. I have this thing about knowing how many pages are in the book, and at any given point, how far I am into a book and how much left I have to go. But, I never read the ending. I don’t like knowing how it will turn out. That sort of makes reading the book totally useless to me!

So, how about you? Have you ever flipped to the end to read how it’s going to turn out?

  1. Debi Said,

Oh my gosh, you sound just like me…I have to know how many pages are in a book. No idea why. But you would have to use some major league torture techniques on me (like maybe withholding chocolate for a month) to get me to read the ending before I got there.

  2. Lynne Said,

I’m like you Stacy. I’ll check the last page to see the page number, but that’s it. I’ve never read the ending of a book first. Not even on books that I couldn’t finish. If a book didn’t interest me enough to read it, why bother reading the ending?

  3. Gail Said,

NO, NEVER! I’m the same way, what’s the point in reading it if you read the end first. Now I do like to know the number of pages, just like you (surprise surprise!) but no, I’d never read the end first. That takes away the fun of reading the book!

  4. Karen Said,

Well. . . I USED to read the ending first — a lot! But I don’t anymore! I don’t know why, but I think it was so I could just relax and enjoy the book without the suspense. Seems rather silly now, but when I was younger (teen years) I often jumped ahead to the ending. I would never think to do it now, even as Lynne said, with books I don’t even finish.

  5. Claire Said,

Yep! The only one I’ve actually read the entire ending first in the last Harry Potter. You see, I was only on book 4 and really wanted to know if Harry lived or died; so, one day in Kroger, I picked up the book at looked at the last chapter!

  6. annie Said,

No way. I love to be surprised.

  7. sherry Said,

I’ll admit it — I’ve done this before! Sometimes I can’t bear to think someone is really dead or that two people won’t possibly get together, and I’ll sneak a peak towards the end and see if I can catch their name or a phrase that will put my mind at ease!

I guess this isn’t really reading the whole ending — but close enough!

    Sherry

  8. Maria Said,

Nope, I don’t think I have. Even when I abandon a book because I can’t get into it, I don’t even peek at the end. I guess in that case, I don’t care enough.

  9. Lauren@Baseballs&Bows Said,

I also have to know how many pages there are. I have looked to the end once or twice, but not often.

  10. Cam Said,

I have been known to do that. I hate myself for it afterward, though! I really try not to, but sometimes I can’t stand the suspense.

  11. LeAnn Said,

I hope there is no right or wrong answer to this questions, because I am a notorious end of the book reader. I also must know exactly how many pages. My book club friend used to always ask if I had read the ending before I finished…I answer yes for so many months in a row, it is just a given!

  12. deb Said,

No, I never read the ending first. That would ruin the book for me!
Sorry I haven’t been by to visit for so long. Looks like I’ve got lots to catch up on. A good place to be on a Sunday morning :=)

  13. mamichelle Said,

NO, I would never!!! That would ruin it for me. I even worry when I flip to see how many pages that I may see something I dont’ want to see! LOL

Hope you had a nice weekend, Stacy!

  14. ZuphChic Said,

That is so funny! I’m the exact same way. I want to know how many pages there are…and then I’m constantly doing the math…20% done, 50 % done, etc.

But I can’t remember a time that I read the end first. Sometimes I get reading so fast that I read the last line of a chapter and ruin just that much…
