Bad Weather

We had some bad weather move through our area on Friday afternoon. I think the weather people are still trying to decide if it was a tornado or straight line winds, but either way, it was bad. Tim and I were home with Beau and we’d never heard it hail like that before. We’ve had bad wind before, with Katrina, but I think this wind was stronger, just thankfully a lot shorter duration.

There was a lot of damage in our area, mostly trees and power lines down, and some roofs blown off. A gas station about a mile from our house had the awning over the pumps come down on two cars that were parked underneath it. We drove by and saw that yesterday and it looked bad. We were very lucky and had almost no damage. Tim’s truck was parked outside and we were afraid he would have hail damage on it, but it looks ok. We had a lot of leaves down and a few small limbs, but that’s it. We were very lucky.

I tried to get a few pictures, but I was a bit late to the game. Most of the hail had melted by the time I got my camera out:

Hail

Hail

On the positive side, it’s supposed to be really pretty here today – sunny and 84 degrees! Looks like spring is about over here and it will be out hot, humid summertime before long 🙂 Have a great day!

  1. Reese Said,

Wow. That is bizarre. We’ve had strange weather here too-like snow on Easter and flakes flying yesterday as well. It’s APRIL for goodness sakes! 🙂

  2. Gail Said,

We only got the rains and storms, none of the tornadoes. We saw the gas station on our way home from your house, weird that the car was still under that awning!
We should have driven through David’s neighborhood and Kathryn’s old neighborhood b/c I’ve heard they’re really bad. Nancy told me on phone that they’re saying that area is the worst it’s been from winds or storms in maybe history! Lots of trees on houses I think.

  3. Dawn Said,

We didn’t get hail but it has been raining here since Friday morning. I am growing webbed feet.

  4. Debi Said,

Geez Stacy, I’m glad you all are okay! Sounds scary!

84 degrees…are you serious?!! Man, we were thoroughly ecstatic that it was in the high 50s this past weekend…Annie was even wearing shorts.

  5. Lauren@Baseballs&Bows Said,

Glad you are safe! We only got rain (over 3 inches). I am ready to enjoy these great temperatures!

  6. annie Said,

Spring in Oklahoma means bad weather watches all the time!
I’m glad you guys were safe.

  7. Cam Said,

Sounds like some nasty weather. We got TONS of rain but no bad wind or anything like y’all got. It’s sunny today and warm too…getting a little too warm for my taste.

  8. Dawn P Said,

I thought about you guys and how you were. We were by the spillway eating lunch and it was so weird. It was windy then got so quite and still then crazy. We were sitting on the deck and by the time we got inside I guess it took the roof because water was pouring on us inside. They were afraid the roof was going to cave in. That was one of the weirdest days and trying to get back to the office was horrible. Trees down, power lines, you saw the tops just gone from trees, trees on houses. We thought we were ok getting out b/c it wasn’t suppose to get bad until around 2….by the time we got back to the office they sent everyone home since there was no electricty.

  9. Coach Jenny Said,

I’m so glad that you didn’t have any damage!! That’s alot of hail!
It’s gorgeous here, so I know it is there. Enjoy this pretty day!

  10. sherry Said,

    Wow, that’s some hail!

I have to tell you though, the pictures with flowers on your deck have me craving spring all the more! We’re 70 today for the first time and I think some pansies are in order really soon!

    Sherry

  11. Susanne Said,

Glad everyone’s okay and that you didn’t fare too badly from the storm! I’m looking at all your green leaves lying on the deck. We’re not even close to having those out yet!

  12. Desert Songbird Said,

Spring seems to be the time when wacky weather comes around – those storms can do some serious damage. Glad everyone is okay.

  13. Fresh Girl Said,

A friend of mine lives in the suburbs of Jackson, and she was showing photos of some of the damage there… lots of it! Thankfully, like you and Tim, she and her family escaped without too much. I’m ready to say good-bye to the bad weather and hello to some sunshine! 😉

  14. Sarah Said,

Looks like it rolled to you from OK! Glad you were saved any damage 🙂

  15. jen Said,

Those storms just scare the crap out of me. I tell you. We have more bad weather coming towards the end of the week. But I cannot complain…the weather since Saturday has been great and we have all been outside.

  16. Maria Said,

Wow, that’s some serious hail. I’m glad all is OK there. Enjoy your nicer weather.

  17. julie@love,laughter&laundry Said,

Wow, that is really big hail.

  18. Heidi Said,

Oh my! I haven’t seen hail like that since I was a kid!
