QOTD – Food Processor

Food ProcessorDo you have a food processor? If so, what kind and how often do you use it? I have an older one that my mom gave me years and years ago. It’s an Oster (Sunbeam) brand, and it has a small food processor cup with just one blade, and then a blender attachment. I like it because it gives me both, but I’ve often wanted more functionality out of it. It doesn’t have a tube for adding things, nor does it have any blades but the one simple cutting blade. It’s also really small, probably either a 3 cup or 5 cup capacity. I really like it, it’s worked well over the years, but sometimes I get the urge for a new one ๐Ÿ˜€

I’ve batted around for years, the whole dilemma of finding room in my overflowing kitchen cabinets to upgrade and get a larger and nicer food processor. I’ve gone back and forth on the whole Kitchenaid vs Cuisinart thing. I watch so many cooking shows, and I see them both used, often and fairly equally. {Oh, and since we’ve gotten our DVR, I record and watch a ton more cooking shows. Heavens to Betsy!} ๐Ÿ˜€

I can’t decide. My main concern is cleaning out enough cabinet space to store the thing! I still haven’t spent any of my Blingo winnings, so I have money for a new appliance. I just can’t decide what to get!

Let me know if you have one, how big it is, what brand, how often you use it, what you use it for, and so on and so forth! Inquiring minds want to know ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a great day!

  1. Gail Said,

Well you know what I have! Mine is a kitchen aid, a 12 cup one if I remember correctly. I love having it, it chops and slices really well and will do other things that I know I can do but haven’t tried, like pie dough I think. And you know that I think you should buy one!

  2. Cam Said,

I have a blender with a small food processing attachement included. It’s the main reason I bought the blender, actually. I like it, but I don’t use it often…although I should!
Anyway, I know it’s not as good as a real processor like you’re talking aboutรขโ‚ฌโ€I’d love one of those! I hope you can decide which one you want. That sounds like a great thing to spend your prize money on! Good luck cleaning out a spot for it. LOL!

  3. deb Said,

I have a food processor and never use it. Scott gave it to me for Christmas one year because I thought I “had to have one” and I think I’ve used it a total of 4 times. It’s too much trouble to clean up. And now it takes up too much space to store. I’m thinking of putting it on Ebay and trying to sell it off and just buy a good chef’s knife lol!

  4. Karen Said,

I have a small food processor — maybe 3 cups — and I use it soley for grinding nuts. I have a recipe that requires a larger one — for shrimp dip that I make once a year at Christmas — so I borrow my neighbor’s. My friend has one and doesn’t know how I live without one. I guess I just don’t know any better. I hate to clean appliances, so when I think about having to clean it, I talk myself out of getting one!

  5. Sarah Said,

Hi Stacey, we bought a new food processor about 6 weeks ago, mainly for hubby to use to make Salsa….it’s Hamilton Beach 6 Cup – 70450. We liked the low design and so far it has been very reliable. Hubby says it does a great job and cleans up and stores easily too. Hope this helps, we got ours at Target, it has 5 stars on Amazon

  6. Shawna Said,

I’m not much fun because I don’t have a processor. I borrowed one from a friend but couldn’t figure out how to use it. Then, I forgot I had it and kept it for two years!! I think I would like to have one, but I can’t justify it too much since I wouldn’t use it very often.

  7. mamichelle Said,

Honestly? I don’t use mine. I think I may have given it away. I just hate to pull it out from the basement storage, bring it up, dust it off, and then clean the whole thing when I’m done. I don’t even know the brand but it’s a big one.

I do have a mini Black and Decker chopper and I don’t even use that any more. I just don’t cook much other than the basics.

Have fun deciding which appliance to purchase!

  8. Heidi Said,

I don’t have a food processor, it is one of the few things that I don’t have.

I have to say that I equate Kitchenaid with stand mixers (that’s actually what I call mine, “my Kitchenaid”) and Cuisinart with food processors But I think that either brand would be good for a food processor. I would want a large one if I got one to make pie crusts and cheesecake with.

Let us know if you get one!

  9. Dawn Said,

I don’t have one and haven’t really thought about getting one because I don’t think I’d use it.

  10. Kara Reed Said,

Ummmm…sadly enough I got one for my birthday 6 months ago and have never opened it!

  11. Dianne Said,

I have and love my food processor but it probably needs replaced soon. I think it’s a Hamilton Beach or something like that. It’s worked well enough over the years but now i have problems turning it on. I got it for one main reason – to grind the nuts for the nutrolls I make at Christmas, after borrowing my girlfriend’s every year! But it comes in handy for many things. I have to store it in a closet in the spare bedroom, like you – no room in the kitchen.
