An Early Present & QOTD

Tim and I have been tossing around several big ticket items to get for the house. New flooring, a new stove/range, and several other things are on the agenda. I also have been looking for a Wii to get for Tim, but haven’t been able to find one in stock anywhere. Another thing we talked about getting was a treadmill. I was really resisting that, because I didn’t want a “crutch” to keep us from taking Beau out on a walk. We haven’t walked much lately, between Tim hurting his knee, his work schedule, the weather, etc. The list is long, but basically, none of us were getting much exercise.

Tim woke up Saturday morning and decided we should go get a treadmill we had seen at Sam’s. So we did! It’s an early anniversary present, as our wedding anniversary is coming up in a couple of weeks. 🙂

The thing is a LOT bigger than I thought it was going to be. We really don’t have room for it in our tiny house. I had wanted to put it in our spare bedroom that serves as our office. But a) we don’t have room without a major cleaning and overhaul and b) Tim didn’t want me to be on it while he was working. He works from home almost every day, and he didn’t want me in there distracting him while he was trying to work. That left the den and the garage. We’re trying it out in the den for a while, but boy – it does NOT go with my idea of home furnishing and home decor 🙂 It’s basically an eyesore, but we are enjoying it so far. I like having it in front of the TV, so I can catch up on stuff I’ve recorded or watch something on TV. The treadmill does have a plug for the iPod, so I can listen to music while I walk, instead of watching TV. Right now, I’m enjoying TV 🙂

We’ve only had it 3 days, but so far we’ve both used it every day. Tim is jogging some, and I’m just walking. Tim is convinced that we will keep up with it, but I’m worried that the newness will wear off sooner or later. Tim says if we start not using it as much, or it REALLY bothers me being in the middle of the den, that we can move it out to the garage. But, I keep telling him – I won’t use it in the garage in the summer. When it’s 100 degrees outside, I don’t plan to be in the garage, which is basically a sauna, on the treadmill.

Anyway, it’s a great new toy and so far we are really enjoying it! Tim has even gotten Beau on it twice! We watch a lot more of “The Dog Whisperer” since we got Beau, and we’ve seen Cesar putting dogs on the treadmill. After Beau’s first attempt, we decided that those dogs get in a lot of time on the treadmill before they put them on TV! Beau is going to take a few more times before he’s really comfortable on it 🙂

So, I’ll post a couple of “Questions of the Day” and a photo on the inside page. Click for more!

Here’s Beau on the treadmill, the first night we had it:

Beau on the treadmill

And some exercise-related “Question of the Day“… you can answer as many or few as you like!

Do you exercise regularly?
Do you belong to a gym?
Do you exercise at home, and if so, do you have any equipment?
If you do, how long before the newness of the treadmill or bike or whatever wore off?
How much do you exercise – do you go by time or distance?
If you walk outdoors or on a treadmill, do you listen to music or watch tv?
If you listen to music – give me some suggestions! I’m looking for more music to add to my iPod for a walking playlist. One for me and one for Tim!

Have a great day!

  1. Gail Said,

I was exercising regularly until it started being 30 or colder in the mornings! I’ve wimped out but need to buck back up. No gym here, no home equipment either. I walk for about 2 1/2 miles or 30-40 minutes, outside and if I’m by myself (which is most days) I wear my ipod. I can’t help you on the music b/c you might not like my stuff! Plus I do some podcasts from time to time.

  2. Judi Said,

    i gave you an award!

  3. Heidi Said,

Good questions. We exercise outside regularly in nice weather. My husband has weights and a punching bag, but I don’t have any exercise equipment. His stuff is banned to the back part of the basement.

My in laws have a treadmill and they use it at least 5 days a week (one or the other of them) but they also have a bedroom that only has that in it and it has a tv in that room and everything.

I’m SURE that the newness of a piece of exercise equipment in our house would wear off FAST!

  4. Dawn Said,

No trreadmill. I excerise at home, while I watch tv. And not as much as I should, but more than a lot of people, I bet.

Side thought that spins off you saying that you can plug your iPod in to listen while you walk, instead of watching tv: Maybe you can invent some kind of tray-table sort of thing that will let you set up your laptop accessible to the treadmill and then you can surf the internet while you walk! LOL!

  5. Cam Said,

I answered these on my blog! SUCH good questions, Stacy! Congrats on the new treadmill. We have to keep our NordicTrack in our dining room, so I KWYM about not being thrilled about it being a part of your decor. I hope it doesn’t wear off and that y’all get tons of miles logged on it!

I doubt you would want to listen to any musical suggestions I have. LOL!

  6. Lauren@Baseballs&Bows Said,

I do exercise regularly. I go the Y. For a while my hubby tried to talk me into getting a machine at home, but it just wouldn’t work as well for me. For starters, I can’t exercise with the kids around. When I go to the Y, they are able to go to the playroom. This helps so much, and it is also my one adult hour of the day when my husband travels. I try to go to a class each day (aerobics, spin, etc…), but sometimes I do the machines. I try to do at least 4 -5 hours a week. If I didn’t eat so much, I would be really fit! 🙂

  7. annie Said,

Aren’t they huge? Ours is in the den too, and it took major rearranging for it to fit in… but the whole family seems to enjoy it. Amanda jogs on it at a 5 and I usually just walk at 3.5 or 4 for about 30 minutes.

  8. Dawn Said,

awwww look at Beau! Congrats on the treadmill. Mine is still at my parents house collecting dust…even though I really really need to go get it or I’ll be shopping for bigger pants here soon 🙁 I need to exercise and want to and I have so many excuses right now why I’m not….(bad excuses…but excuses…)

  9. Shawna Said,

I don’t exercise regularly since Scamp came along, and I’d love to get back into it. I used to belong to a gym, but now we just pay as we go. Hubby bought me a stationary bike since I can use it with my plantar fasciitis. He also bought me an outdoor bicylce for Christmas, but we put it up for the winter. The stationary bicycle wore off after a few months. I think partly because of me adding in blogging.:) I always go by time when exercising – 20 -25 minutes is about all my feet can take. I can’t walk on a treadmill anymore or walk on the asphalt outside very often because of my feet. But, I do read while I’m on the stationary bicycle. The last couple of weeks Scamp and I have been dancing to the Wiggles on DVD. Now, that’s a heavy workout!

  10. Amanda Said,

I love my treadmill and try to exercise at least Monday through Friday before work for a minimum of 30 minutes per day. Been doing extra good this week, as I have started exercising at night also for 30 minutes. I have been sleeping a whole lot better since I have started doing this. My morning routine is variable, with speed changes and incline changes every few minutes. I’ve been told that challenges your muscles more than a constant speed and incline. EX- 3 min at 3.5 with incline of 3 then 2 min at 3 with incline of 5. I always have a short 2-3 min warmup and cooldown at a slower speed.

I do have a gym membership, and would like to go there a couple days a week as well. If I go there, I can’t run any errands after work. Most of the time errands win out that battle.

We also have weights that Mark got for Christmas that need to be set up in the garage.

Congrats on the Treadmill. You will find that you go through times of hating the stupid thing, but if you can fight the urge to not exercise you will feel much better once you get on there. Well…..you’ll at least feel better when you get done exercising.

  11. Elizabeth Said,

Cool buy. Bet you’re enjoying it for now.
Are you forcing the dog on that thing?
