Happy Valentines Day!

Happy Valentines Day!Happy Valentines Day to everyone! It will be a very low-key day here at the Exceedingly Mundane house. Tim has been working so much lately. They’ve been doing a lot of work at night, and he’s been up until 3, 4 and even 5 AM several nights a week for the last few weeks. Last night was no exception. Irregardless, Valentines is not a huge thing in our house. I always love the “excuse” to get extra stuff, candy, a card, but it’s just not a big deal to Tim. Slowly, over the years, I’ve come to understand and agree with him. He told me when we first got married, that he didn’t need or want someone, a card company or whatever, to tell him when he needed to buy me something, surprise me with chocolates or flowers, or tell me that he loved me. He wanted to do it any day of the year, every day of the year, in whatever way he wanted. And he has, and he does. I’ve come to know what he meant – that means so much more to me than something on Valentines Day. When he and the rest of the known world went out to buy a card or flowers or candy. 🙂 OH! And yesterday was a hoot. I ran to Walmart for some things, and you should have seen the people flocked to the Valentines areas. They were putting out tons of flowers and balloons in the aisles up front, and the people were swarming around them like bees to honey. It was actually kind of funny to watch! So anyway, we will celebrate today with some chocolate cookies I got us yesterday at a local bakery, and some steaks on the grill tonight. We’ll watch Survivor and Lost and it won’t be a big deal. No more going out on Valentines for us. One year we waited two hours for a table at a favorite restaurant, and then had very sub-par food and bad service. Never again!

Hope you all have a great day!

  1. Gail Said,

I’m only so-so on going out too, sometimes it just seems like it’s too hard with waiting on tables and getting not great food like you talked about! I wonder if it’s an age thing! Plus we don’t really have great choices for restaurants here, there’s fast food or…..fast food!
I guess I’ll ask Don if he wants anything special, it would be nice if he’d grill for us but that probably ain’t happening, he’s so incredibly busy. We will try to do something tomorrow he thought, b/c we will probably come to game.

  2. theresa Said,

I liked it when I was a kid, giving those little valentine days card- but am not a huge fan of the day- just another fun holiday that got commerialized too much. I with you, I think you should celebrate love everyday-but with that said, I will never pass up a romantic meal with my hubby

  3. Dawn Said,

I prefer to make Valentines Day more of a “fun” holiday than a serious one. Silly gestures of love more than romantic ones. I like to send funny cards to my friends. And a little treat to my god daughter — she is my Valentine! =)

  4. Dianne Said,

I’m with you Stacy, low key V-days are fine with me. We usually go out to lunch the weekend before or after, to a regular place, for sandwiches or whatever. I’m off (sick) today so i threw some Chicken noodle soup in the crockpot and i got mike a SNL DVD – the 1st 5 years. I like to keep it just fun and light. Happy Valentine’s though to you & Tim!

  5. Heidi Said,

I have to agree with your husband too. I also just plain hate being in crowded restaurants, so that right there nixes going out to eat on Vday. But I do love Vday for kids. The Certain Little Boy and I had a lot of fun today cutting hearts out of paper.

Hope you have a good one and that you all get some rest for once!

  6. Shawna Said,

I hope Tim gets some rest!! We always do presents for Valentine’s. We give each other things like DVDs besides just the candy. We are eating out tonight, but like you, we won’t be going to any very popular places. That’s just too long to wait. I was in Wal Mart yesterday, and it was awful. I’ve never seen so many Wal mart employees out on hte floor at once stocking stuff!!

  7. Lauren@Baseballs&Bows Said,

We are pretty low-key too. I do stuff for the kids, but my hubby said the same thing as yours. He thinks Valentine’s Day was invented by the card companies to make money. 🙂

  8. Stacy aka Vaders Mom Said,

We went out Monday. Of course, I spend most of my Valentines alone and I don’t think Jeff even realized it was today until after I told him. Needless to say…we low-key the day.

  9. Cam Said,

    Yeah, I agree.
I got a couple of candy type things for G, and some fudge for Philip. Made them some cinnamon rolls. That’s about it here.

  10. mamichelle Said,

LOL, I went to Walmart on my lunch hour and it was a zoo!!! Why do people wait until the last possible minute?!!

    Happy Valentines Day, Stacy!!

  11. jen Said,
