Today’s “Question of the Day” is a kitchen-oriented one. As well as a nosy one! Do you have canisters in your kitchen? Are they out on the countertop, or in a pantry or cabinet? What do they look like? How many do you have and what do you store in them?
I have a set that I got when we got married. I found a link for the same set, except I have 4 in my set and not three. It’s called Pfaltzgraff Filigree and the link is here on Amazon. I really like them, and they have held up well through the years. I store my all-purpose flour, sugar, cornmeal and tea bags in my set of 4. Like my dishes, they are just plain white and lately, I’ve gotten tired of just plain white. I am trying to decide whether to try to get another set, or maybe just get some Tupperware or Snapware type containers and put my canister stuff in my pantry. That — of course — would require an act of Congress to actually clean out enough space in my pantry to put said canisters. I am a hoarder of the utmost extent and have a pantry that is overflowing. I literally have cans piled two high, four or five deep in my pantry.
Anyway, how about you? Do you have canisters in your kitchen? Where are they and what are in them? Leave me a comment and let me know, I really look forward to peeking into your kitchen! 😀
I don’t have canisters. I like them, though, and wish I could have some, but we don’t have room on our countertops for anything else (small kitchen!). So I just have a plastic container up in the cupboard that holds the sugar. The flour, I have to keep in a canister in the fridge–I don’t know if y’all have this problem, but down here, if we don’t refrigerate our flour, it hatches weevils. I keep the cornmeal in the fridge, too. Hmmm…maybe I don’t really *need* a set of canisters anyway! LOL! I still like the way a nice set of canisters looks, sitting out on the counter.
I hope you decide what you want! I vote for a nice attractive new set, out on the countertop. 🙂
I don’t have canisters on my countertops, per se, but I do have two glass jars that look like faux tortoise shell. They have silver metal tops. I keep coffee in one and cookies in the other :o) I was interested in them more for their decorative appeal over their function. In general I’m not a big fan of “kitchen stuff as decor” (i.e. the toaster sitting out with a pretty toaster cover.)
I have a set of four ceramic canisters on my countertop. They’re really, really pretty — but don’t match my kitchen. I have flour in the largest one, sugar in the next. The smallest holds coffee. The next one up changes according to the seaon. In the winter I fill it with hot cocoa mix and in the summer I put lemonade mix in it. If I could convince myself it wouldn’t be so frivolous, I would replace them with a set that matched the kitchen. But, so far, they’re staying!
I have had so many different cannisters over the years… but now have sealed cannisters put away out of sight. I think I prefer it that way 🙂
Yours are very pretty!
I like cannisters, but don’t have any. I store my stuff in tupperware in the pantry.
You know, that’s a good question. I did have some canisters. They were hunter green, with a little wooden spoon on the side. I don’t know where they are– they might have gotten purged in one of our moves, or when I got married. We don’t have any now, that I know of…
No canisters for me – I have never gone through tthe trouble to find any I like enough to take up the counter space. I do the Tupperware in the pantry thing…
You probably already know my answer but…..I keep stuff like flour, sugar, etc. in Rubbermaid/Tupperware type plastic canisters in my cabinets. What I have on the counter are some tall, square, glass see through ones on the counter that I keep differing things in. At Christmas and Valentines they might have candy, peppermints in them or different red items. Other times of the year I keep colored pasta or beans in them.
Well, first I have to say that the Tupperware canisters are on sale right now (40% off) through the end of the month I think at tupperware.com. I have OFTEN thought of getting them!
I have a set of canisters out on my counter. I have Pfalzgraff Stratus (also white with a kindof swirl design, now discontinued) and there are only 3 in this set. I keep flour, sugar and tea bags in mine. I never thought about keeping corn meal in there because I keep my corn meal frozen for some reason.
We DO have canisters and they look a lot like the shorter, rounder one in your picture, except they’re clear. They sit on the counter right by the kitchen sink, all lined up in a row and we keep things like different kinds of rice and pasta in them. And raisins! 😉
I like canisters, and I’ve always had canisters, but I hate that they take up space on the counter. I don’t really have room for them in the cabinets or pantry. Anyway, I know you’d like them, Stacy – they’re RED! I have three – two are about 6.5″ tall x 4.5″ dia and the other is about 5″ tall x 6″ dia. They’re made of enamel with a glass lid – we came across them in Walmart. I keep sugar, flour, and coffee in them. I also have a tall clear glass one with a cork top for spaghetti – a holdover from a glass set I used to have.
I do have canisters. Ceramic white with different herbs painted on them. They hold my white sugar, brown sugar, dry beans and tea bags. They sit on top of my counters. I like the look of one nice set of cannisters on a counter top.
I don’t have a photo but my four are white with flowers on them. I use them for flour, sugar, tea bags and flavored tea bags.
I also have a tupperware one made for coffee and filters on another counter.
Yours are pretty!
I do have canisters and I love them. They are “Martha Stewart aqua” colored, but I found them at the thrift store for a couple of dollars. They are metal and they say “flour” “sugar” and “coffee” on them.
