QOTD – Ice Cream

Ice CreamWe’re having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave, where I live! It’s been in the 100’s for the last several days, and we’re forecast to be in the triple digits until at least the end of the week. I’m already tired of summer, and have been daydreaming lately about wearing jeans and sweaters, candy corn and pumpkins, snowmen and angels, and mostly, just some cooler weather 🙂

My air conditioning unit is running nearly non-stop, and that’s mostly how I’m trying to stay cool. My preferred method though, would be to eat ice cream. When it’s hot like this, I could really eat ice cream every day. Seriously. Unfortunately, my hips and thighs are already large enough, so I’m trying to be good.

Today’s Question of the Day is all about ice cream – what’s your favorite flavor? Do you eat ice cream at home or just out, at an ice cream shop or specialty place? Do you have favorite toppings that you like to put on your ice cream?

As for my answers – I rarely meet an ice cream I don’t like. Chocolate would be my all-time favorite, but I do like a lot of other flavors. This summer, we’ve been trying the Oreo, Reese’s peanut butter and Snickers ones. I need to try a Butterfinger one next. I also have a half gallon of plain vanilla on hand, because I’ve been making some banana splits. A banana, some low fat vanilla ice cream, Hershey’s chocolate syrup, maraschino cherries and nuts on top. Yummy in my tummy 🙂

How about you? What’s your favorites when it comes to ice cream?

  1. JennaG Said,

My all time favorite is Blue Bell’s mocha almond fudge. It’s not a regular flavor though, so it’s only out at certain times of the year. I usually keep a half-gallon of The Great Divide (half chocoalte/half vanilla) at the house. I also enjoy going to Sonic for a hot fudge sundae on occasion. The only toppings I really like are hot fudge, strawberries, or bananas.

  2. jen Said,

I love Mint Choc Chip…have you tried the new DIbs? Very worth the $$$$. They are great and easy for lil Miller to not make a mess. I also love Choc/Peanut Butter ice cream in a waffle cone of course…….good question…..I think I will go eat some Dibs…..oh yeh…we eat ice cream out or in…there is a specalty shop downtown that we go treat ourselves too once in awhile…..its all homemade ice cream rigt before your eyes…and it is goooood.

  3. Lynne Said,

My favorite flavors are both light ice creams by Edys – coffee and French silk. I’ll scoop up a big dish, then settle back with the ice cream, a spoon, and a bag of little pretzels. I scoop the ice cream with the pretzels until there’s just melted stuff left. Then I crumble a few handfuls of pretzels, mix it all up, and spoon it in. Yum! The pretzel thing only works with coffee and chocolate flavors, no good at all with others. Oh, the pretzels need to be really salty. I’ll pick through the bag to get the saltiest ones.

  4. Desert Songbird Said,

Rocky Road, baby! Usually I don’t have anything added to the top, but sometimes a little extra marshmallow is fun. I don’t like to buy ice cream for the home freezer because of the temptation, so usually we just eat it out.

I also have a weakness for Dairy Queen’s soft serve vanilla dipped in chocolate.

  5. Gail Said,

OOOH, ICE CREAM! I love it!
I do eat it every day during these heat waves we’re having, I’ll skip supper or something else so I can have it! Anything chocolate but this summer there are 2 Edy’s ones I’m smitten with, the Butterfinger I told you about and another one I’ll have to see what it is……although I’ve been thinking about blogging about them!

  6. Laura Said,

I like all flavors, too. Depends on my mood. 🙂 If I had to pick a favorite I might say jamocha almond fudge, or rocky road.

  7. Carrie Said,

I am not a big icecream fan. Never have been. Although, give me a soft serve vanilla and let me dip french fries in it and I’m a happy girl. While preggy I craved icecream quite a bit. I only really like it from Marble Slab Creamery. Strawberry Cheesecake … YUMMY!

  8. Cam Said,

Me & you both! I’ll eat just about any ice cream! The only ones I for sure don’t like are coffee-flavored ones and fruit-filled ones.

Ben & Jerry’s NY SuperFudge Chunk is my very favorite, all the time.

I also love to get plain vanilla bean ice cream (the fancy kind), and put some mini-chocolate chips in it…it’s heavenly! Especially as the ice cream gets soft, and I can stir the chips into a kind of soupy mixture…mmm… I’ve been doing that a lot lately!

I also like Blue Bell’s Birthday Cake ice cream. 🙂

    Stay cool!!

  9. amy Said,

Fun question. I love anything with butter pecan or just vanilla but love toffee. If its at a restaurant i add some caramel and peanuts..Oh how yummy. This question is why I have so much weight to lose

Lets not forget Ben and Jerrys Chubby HUbby

  10. Susanne Said,

I think I found a new favorite in Breyer’s Chocolate Cherry. I also love coffe flavored ice creams, and Breyer’s mint chocolate chip. Now I have to go get me an ice cream cone.

  11. Melody Said,

Ooh, I LOVE ice cream! I like all flavours, but I think my favourite will be vanilla, although chocolate is great also! We rarely eat in an ice cream house; we usually will buy a tub of ice cream and enjoy it at home. Such a joy! 😛

  12. Heidi Said,

I would be hard pressed to choose a favorite too! I love chocolate, but I love a lot of other flavors too!

  13. Stacy aka Vaders Mom Said,

Well, it needs to have chocolate it in and I’m happy. I just finished off a bowl of chocolate chip cookie dough. Yummy!!

  14. Amy Said,

I find this funny because seriously, I just sent my hubby out to buy some ice cream right before I came over here! I love Edy’s double fudge brownie. But then again I’m like you and have rarely met an ice cream I didn’t like. Even the Edy’s sugar free ice cream is really good!

    Enjoy!

  15. Claire Said,

Oh my WORD, you are right! It’s been SO hot. I think the high today was 106! I don’t like chocolate ice cream. When I was little my favorite was strawberry. I like chocolate chip cookie dough and pralines and cream. However, I’ve recently discovered sorbet! SO GOOD! I think thats my favorite right now.

  16. annie Said,

I like twists from McDonalds, they are only 3 ww points… all for $1!
Real ice cream, I love chocolate and great divide is a favorite… braums chocolate almond or chocolate chip… there is a ben & jerry’s chocolate with brownie bits in it that is a chocolate heaven!
I don’t eat it often. I did have some today at hubbie’s request. It sure was good. I chomp ice. hot or cold outside.

  17. Sparky Duck Said,

Ice cream, the manna of summer! Almost any Ben and Jerry’s flavor makes me happy, but out of the regular flavors peanut butter is my fave.

  18. Lauren@Baseballs&Bows Said,

I love ice cream anytime, anywhere! I really like chocolate with stuff in it like nuts or other chocolate chunks, etc… I also like cookies n’ cream and cookie dough!

  19. Robinznest Said,

It has to be Ben & Jerry’s Peanut Butter Cup! I rarely let myself have it though because I cannot stop eating when I have it! It’s weird – it just takes control of me and I eat and eat and eat no matter how full I am!!!

  20. Kara Said,

Yum! Ice cream! I just realized I don’t have any at all in the freezer right now – that might qualify as an emergency! I love all kinds, but am especially fond of Moose Tracks and Cherry Garcia…

  21. Heather Said,

First the easy part… I try and not keep icecream in the house so not to eat it every day b/c of lack of will power. I mostly eat it out somewhere or at my inlaws!
Favorite flavor anything with chocolate or peanut butter or a mix!
Favorite topping: PEANUT BUTTER AND PEANUT BUTTER CUPS
My all time favorite sundae is from Friendly’s which is called the Peanut Butter Pan! It has a scoop of Mocha Chunk, Forbidden Chocolate, and Hunka Chunka Peanut Butter Fudge topped with Peanut Butter and Hot Fudge and Heath Bar and Peanut Butter Cup!

  22. Karen Said,

Why did I start humming your first two phrases to music from “White Christmas”? Or is it just Gail who uses songs in her posts? (I’m thinking of the opening act with Bing and Danny).

Anyhoo — can’t resist jumping in on the ice cream question! I eat ice cream wherever and however I can get it. It’s always in our freezer, and I’m a sucker for stopping for ice cream whenever my kids bug me about it in the summer months. My favorite is plain old vanilla with hot fudge. Also, my favorite is Ben and Jerry’s Chunky Monkey. And my other favorite is Moose Tracks. And if I have to have it without chocolate (huh?), I would settle for Butter Pecan.

    I LOVE ice cream!

  23. Shawna Said,

I prefer cake rather than ice cream, but I do crave it sometimes. I like cookies and cream the best. And I prefer soft serve over regular. I do like warm cake/brownies with ice cream though. And I love home-made ice cream, especially vanilla. But when it come down to it, I’ll eat my cake!

  24. Dawn Said,

I am sure you know by now that I am a major ice cream lover too. 😉 Mint chocolate chip. Strawberry-vanilla-chocolate. Roadrunner Raspberry. Moose Tracks. Santa’s White Christmas. Coffee.

  25. Dianne Said,

Okay, now you got me craving ice cream!!

Why am I not surprised that you are progressing through the cookie/candy bar flavors in succession!!!

My favs: anything coffee or cappuchino or mocha, anything with peanut butter, sherbet (lemon or pineapple), occasionally like butter pecan. Not a huge fan of soft serve. I don’t need a cone. I love the Breyers & Edy’s slow churned half-fat stuff – mmmm!!

  26. trista Said,

Funny thing, I usually crave ice cream when it is cold out. I have a few favs! This summer we have been making our own ice cream at home, with Alan’s ice cream maker (a father’s day gift, as he had never had home made ice cream before). I like Braum’s chocolate almond in a waffle cone. I like soft serve vanilla in a cone, dipped in chocolate. I also love the cookie monster dessert at Cheddar’s! YUM! At home, if we don’t make it ourselves, we have Blue Bell homemade vanilla, and we like to add oreo cookies or m&m’s sometimes too.

    Great QOTD!

  27. trista Said,

I almost forgot about the new Breyer’s Ice cream poppers. They are like DIBs, in that they are hershey kisses with vanilla or chocolate inside. YUM!

P.S. I also like to dip my soft serve in fries, as Carrie mentioned above!
