Booking Through Thursday

Booking Through Thursday Meme

I’m afraid I’m a bit of a wet blanket again with this week’s questions (much like I was with all of the Harry Potter mania!) Here we go…

Letters! We Get Letters…

Have you ever written an author a fan letter? Did you get an answer? Did it spark a conversation? A meeting?

(And, sure, I suppose that e-mails DO count . . . but Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขd say no to something like a message board on which the author happens to participate.)

Let’s see… my answers would be No, No, and No. As much as I read, and as many favorite authors as I have, I have never written one a fan letter, emailed them or posted on a message board in which they post. And as much as I love the Internet, I don’t always think to look up their website. Some of the authors websites that I have visited include Debbie Macomber (and I signed up for her newsletter, both online and email, and got a nice little bookmark from her, as well as notes as to when her new books come out), and also Karen Kingsbury, Liz Curtis Higgs and Alexander McCall Smith. I use the authors websites some to see what other books they have written, and with series books, to get the order of the books in the series.

Pretty boring answer, huh?! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve actually never written a fan letter of any kind to any kind of celebrity, author, political figure or anyone else. I am not very big on those kinds of things.

  1. Barbara H. Said,

I don’t like the sound of a “fan letter,” because it sounds kind of fawning, but I probably should write to authors who have touched my life and through whom God has worked or shown me something to let them know.

  2. Shelby Said,

I have written an author or two . . .

  3. Heidi Said,

It wasn’t until I started my book club that I realized that authors have webpages! That is where we get a lot of our questions from t hough!

  4. Lauren@Baseballs&Bows Said,

My answer would be the same. I do visit websites to find the names of other titles, but I don’t write authors. I do think, however, that I might have sent Ricky Schroeder a fan letter when I was a preteen. I did think he was just the cutest boy ever (that was back in his Silver Spoons days). I think I got an autographed picture. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Chris Said,

    I’m not alone!

  6. Karen Said,

I like to check out author’s websites, to learn more about their works and the inspiration for their writing. The only one I can remember writing to was Jim Fergus, the author of One Thousand White Women. I loved the book and have an interest in the time period. We exchanged a couple of e-mails about his sources and books we both enjoy. I thought he was very gracious to respond the way he did.

  7. Debi Said,

Why have I never thought of looking for an author’s website?!! Duh, Debi. Sure would come in handy, since I have those same OCD tendencies in having to read the books in “the right order”, and such. This should be great fun. (Of course, on the other hand, the last thing I need to be doing is spending more time on the computer.)

  8. Becky Said,

I have visited several author’s websites/blogs. Deborah Raney answered my email after visiting my blog, and Angela Hunt left a nice comment on my blog after I reviewed her book, “Uncharted”. I was thrilled!

  9. sherry Said,

I wrote an email to the author of the Josephine B trilogy. She did indeed email me back with a thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

    Sherry

  10. Literary Feline Said,

Your answer isn’t boring at all, Stacy. I imagine that most people never think to write to an author. I also visit authors’ websites and blogs now and then. Some, I even subscribe too.
