QOTD – Drinks

Question of the DayToday’s Question of the Day is short and sweet – what kind of beverage do you drink with your evening meal? Water, tea, milk, juice, lemonade, soda, nothing, or something else? And while we’re at it, do you call your evening meal “dinner” or “supper”? Inquiring minds want to know!

OK, my answers. I’m trying to be good and drink water with my evening meal (which we usually call “supper” around here). However, being good doesn’t always work for me. A lot of the time I end up drinking tea. Which is something I’m trying to break myself of for one reason – I’m trying to limit my caffeine intake in the evenings. I think sometimes it affects my sleep, or my ability to fall asleep. I drink a fair amount of caffeine during the day (coffee in the mornings, sometimes Coke Zero or tea at lunch and then mostly tea with supper). I think I fall asleep easier when I don’t drink as much caffeine, especially in the latter parts of the day. However, I really don’t like drinking water with my meals. I really like a little flavor of something 🙂

How about you? What do you drink at meals, and what do you call the nighttime meal in your house? Leave me a comment and let me know. 🙂

  1. Cam Said,

Well I grew up calling it supper, but Philip calls it dinner, so I mostly call it dinner now, although I still sometimes say supper. So I guess my answer is…both. 🙂 Either term works in our house. Now, my mom calls supper “supper”, and lunch “dinner”. So that can get confusing whenever we’re all trying to make plans…when she says be here for dinner, that means lunch, not supper. LOL!

I drink water with all my meals. Only occasionally do I drink Coke, if the food calls for it (pizza, for example).

  2. mamichelle Said,

    I call it dinner.

I only drink water. It’s funny. I was hypnotized for weight loss propably about 10 yrs. ago. The only thing that really stuck with me is the water. I used to live on iced tea and diet soda. I wouldn’t even think of taking a sip now. Why didn’t the food part work?!! hehe

  3. Debi Said,

I call it supper, Rich calls it dinner. About a 50-50 split between water and decaf iced tea for a beverage. I really should just knock off the tea, as I really do enjoy water with a meal. But Rich enjoys tea, so I go that route a lot too.

  4. amy Said,

It was supper until I got married and now its dinner..I drink either coke zero or unsweet tea!

  5. Dianne Said,

I am not big on drinking anything with my meal. (Dinner, we call it). If we go out, I usually only order water, just because I can never finish a pop and hate to waste the money. Although if we have pizza, I do like a diet soda with it – Diet Cherry Coke or Diet Coke. But I never finish it either!

  6. Elizabeth Said,

    Supper, of course!
Stacy, you should try decaf tea; it’s not bad.

  7. JennaG Said,

I always drink water for supper.

  8. Heidi Said,

We call it dinner. I really don’t have any one drink that we drink all the time. A lot of the times water, but also lemonade often and sometimes hot tea.

    Good question.

  9. KC Said,

my favorite thing to drink is sunkist 🙂 but with dinner I normally have somesort of pop. I’m not a milk drinker and I’m trying to limit my pop intake(as I’m trying to take off a few pounds but can’t bring myself to drink anything diet) So I drink water all day long and treat myself with a pop at night with my meal.
Now as to what we call it.. Well I call it both. I stopped to think about what I call it and I found that I use them both pretty much the same amount of time. Sort of like when I ask my DH “what do you want for super?” Then when i yell for the family “ok come and get it dinner is ready” so Both is my answer.

  10. Susanne Said,

I’m a milk gal with my dinner. Dinner and supper are interchangeable around here. Whatever comes out my mouth when I’m calling it I guess. :v)

  11. Karen Said,

I drink water with supper. We have dinner, on rare occasions, on the weekends. It’s the main meal in the middle of the day. Otherwise, night time meal is supper at our house.

  12. annie Said,

I usually have coke w/sonic ice for my dinner drink.

  13. Dawn Said,

Water water water. All day long. Drinking something with flavor with a meal tastes funny to me now! LOL Unless it’s a wine. That’s ok. And I still have a glass of watr besides.

I use both. My Gram always referred to whichever meal of the day was the largest as dinner — so it could mean lunch or supper. But that was our warning that it was the one big meal & the other would be light.

  14. Carrie Said,

We call it dinner and I always drink Coke.

  15. Coach J Said,

I drink water with my supper. Although, at my granny’s house, I drink sweet tea with my dinner! 🙂

  16. summershine Said,

Pretty much just water for dinner, unless we’re having pizza. Then I like root beer with that! Dinner at our house is “dinner” when telling my husband to come for it and “din dins” when telling my children to come for it.

  17. Laura Said,

I have never, ever heard anybody call it “supper” in person. Welcome to the west coast. 🙂

Oh, and I drink whatever I feel like. Tea, lemonade, soda, juice, etc.

  18. Lisa Said,

I call it dinner. I like to drink Fruit2o. It is water with fruit flavoring in it and I love it way better than water.

  19. Judi Said,

Okay. I drink sweet, decaf, iced tea. And we call it supper around here!

  20. Gail Said,

Supper! I’m a southern girl and I think “supper” is a southern thing!
WATER! I drink water with every meal, it’s pretty much all I drink. And, HELLO! I quit drinking soda/cokes years and years ago and felt 100% better when I did and I think I’ve only told you that like 853 times. And like I’ve told you for about 854 times, you’d feel and do so much better if you’d quit with the caffeine!
For some reason I never drank sweet tea much til the last few years and I don’t drink it much but I love hot tea, decaf and with honey is good.

  21. Kim Said,

Well!My husband grew up in Minnesota calling it supper. I am a west coast girl and always called it dinner. Suffice it to say he has been converted. He does still call pop, soda though! 🙂

To answer the drink question….it varies. Diet Caffeine Free Coke is what I prefer, but I also drink lemonade, water or Crystal Light.

  22. Claire Said,

I drink either water or lemonade. I call it supper unless someone is coming over and then it’s dinner.

  23. Desert Songbird Said,

Usually water, even when we go out to eat. Occasionally I’ll drink a cocktail when we go out.

I also drink skim milk, depending on what we’re having.

  24. Karen (mommy of three) Said,

I call it supper, my DH calls it dinner, so it depends who you ask 🙂 I only drink water with my meals. Here’s a confession for you…I am from the South, and I hope I don’t get BANNED for this one…I.don’t.like.tea. DH loves it and says I make great sweet tea, but I cannot STAND it!

  25. Kara Said,

Water all the way, but only b/c I quit the caffeine when I started having heart palpitations last summer. I am O.K. without the caffeine now, but I really missed it for a LONG time. Enjoy some every now and then if you can!

  26. Lynne Said,

I used to drink milk at all meals, but now I usually just have water. Sometimes unsweetened decaf tea.

We usually call our evening meal dinner, but I might use “supper” as in asking Dom or Shelby what they want for supper. Mid-day meal is always lunch.

  27. Linsey M. Said,

dh calls it supper too. We are from Texas so it has to be Dr. Pepper! LOL I am addicted to Aquafina tho, drink it about as much as I drink Dr. Pepper, maybe more 🙂 we purchase it by the case.

  28. Jennifer Said,

I have been known to call it either dinner or supper, although when we got married the in-laws really pushed the “supper” thing because they call LUNCH “dinner”, which makes it confusing.
At the table, we usually have tea, some sort of juice, and water. I drink water. I used to drink Pepsi every night but the calories caught up with me, and I have a hard time with diet!! 🙂

  29. Shawna Said,

I usually drink water or Ocean Spray light Cranapple juice. I use both supper and dinner. And I never call lunch dinner.

  30. Dawn P Said,

I usually drink unsweet tea. Even though I love sweet tea I try to stick with unsweet. I call it both…depending on who I’m around. My choice is to call it dinner.

  31. Merri Said,

I drink soy milk or water sometimes both. We stopped drinking milk about a year ago, and now I love the taste of soy ..(We get Silk brand, which is really good. They also make a chocolate flavour which is yummy!)
As for which we call it, I guess both.
My granny had “dinner” at lunch time, and “supper” at night..
I used to think it was an English thing..

  32. Melody Said,

I love drinking teas! At home, I’ll try to drink plain water during meals… unless we are out, hehe.

  33. Sonya Said,

I usually drink water if we go out for supper. If we’re home for supper, it’s always Diet Sunkist. Bad, I know. I am trying to work on limiting my caffeine in the evenings too. They don’t make caffeine free Diet Sunkist so I have to watch myself! It’s tough because I LOVE that stuff! I do love milk and will drink it anytime we have it although that’s normally at breakfast.

  34. Karla Said,

If we go out to eat dinner, I drink water. (I don’t like paying $2 for a tea or soda.)

If we are at home…which we are most nights…I usually drink ice cold milk or sweetened ice tea.

  35. Stacy Said,

I usually have Coke Zero or Diet Coke with my supper. Of course, it depends on where we are…if we are somewhere where they serve sweet tea, I’ll be drinking that!!
