Week of July 8: Vacationing

1. What is your favorite vacation spot? Of the places we’ve been, I loved Washington DC, and I love going to the mountains (Gatlinburg)
2. Would you rather drive or fly? We actually really like to drive. We get to spend the time together, talking, listening to music, talking about our trip, etc
3. Have you ever been on a cruise? Would you want to go on one? I went on a cruise when I was a senior in high school. I’d like to go on another Caribbean cruise (this time, with Tim of course!), but what I REALLY want to do is take an Alaskan cruise. One day… one day!
4. What has been your best/worst vacation? They’ve all been pretty good. I loved going to Disneyworld and to Washington DC probably the most. Tons of things to do there 🙂
5. How long do you think is long enough for a vacation? For us, 3 or 4 days in one spot is usually enough to see what we want to see and do and not be bored. It depends on the place though, if we’ve been there before, how many tourist or other attractions are there, etc.
6. Do you spend alot of money while on vacation? Do you buy alot of souvenirs? What’s the coolest one you’ve gotten? I don’t tend to spend much money, because I’m usually worried about what we’re spending on food, lodging, traveling expenses, etc. 🙂 What I do like to get is either a refrigerator magnet or a Christmas ornament or preferably both from where ever we vacation. Helps me remember each vacation in a fun way
7. If money were no object, where would you go on vacation? England, Scotland and Wales. France. Italy. Austria. Alaska. Australia. And it goes without saying that we plan to visit all 50 states together. Tim has already got a big head start on me with all of his traveling while he was in the military, but we’re going to visit them all together, eventually 😀

  1. Desert Songbird Said,

I, too, prefer driving instead of flying. I get antsy on a plane, even if I have a DVD player, books, and my iPod. I don’t like the idea of someone else in charge, I guess. When we’re in a car, at least we can decide when and where to stop, even if it means taking longer to get to your destination.

  2. Kara Said,

Wouldn’t it be heavenly to have money be no object and visit all of those great places? Sounds like you’d be ready!

  3. Michael-Lover of Amy Said,

    1. So far my favorite vacation spot is the Caribbean, though there is so much I have not seen including the entire midwest and wester USA and anything in Europe. I’ve spent a week in London which is not nearly enough time and I really want to go to Greece.

    2. Typically I prefer to fly, though cost usually prevents it. If it’s a nice place, driving can be enjoyable too, like heading down through the keys in Florida. I-75 in south Georgia and I-10 anywhere are hossible, as is I-16 from Macon to Savannah.

    3. Amy and I have been on 3 and a half cruises since we were married, and I’d never even considered it before then. We’ve done the Eastern and Western Caribbean, once with Costa and the other times with Disney. Disney rocks, it’s expensive, but you get what you pay for.

    4. Best was probably the first Disney cruise (Eastern Carib) with my wife’s family. I won $500 gambling in St. Maarten. Worst was our solo Disney cruise, a hurricane shortened it from 7 days to 4 and it was very crowded because they added another cruise (their 3/day and 4/day ship’s passengers) to our boat.

    5. My vacations hae always been a week or less, but I think 2 weeks is great for domestic travel, at least 4 for international.

    6. We don’t spend tons, we like seeing cultural and natural attractions. Theme parks are our biggest expense. We typically get something for each close family member or at least the kids. I used to collect Hard Rock and Planet Hollywood pins. Now, if anything, it tends to be shot glasses.

    7. World tour – seems the typical response. Greece, Germany, England, Paris, Australia, Japan, China, Belgium, Netherlands and at least a year to travel, driving, around the USA.

  4. Lauren@Baseballs&Bows Said,

D.C. is such a great place! I can’t wait until my kids are older so we can take them there. Also, so many things there are free (of course, my hubby would chime in that we pay for them with our taxes). 🙂

  5. Carrie Said,

I lived in DC for 3 years ~ let’s just say it’s not my favorite place in the world, LOL. We did get out and see the sights while there but it just wasn’t my kinda place. I’m a country girl!

  6. shellsq Said,

Great questions! My favorite vacation spot is either Hawaii or Aruba. I prefer flying since we drive so much around here!

I’d love to go to Australia to visit my friend I met in Hawaii if money were no object. I’d also love to go on a cruise to the islands and also to Alaska!

  7. Cam Said,

    Great answers!

We also prefer to drive because of the whole driving experience.

If you ever go to AK, I recommend really truly going to AK, not just one of those cruises (they’re known to Alaskans as tourist traps)…the real thing is much better! 😉

  8. Amy Said,

We love to drive too because if we see some place we want to stop at we just do! Taking our time and enjoying it all is the best vacation I can dream of. Do you like to stop at the antique shops? I’m not really a collector, but enjoy looking.

I do the magnet thing too. It’s an inexpensive souvenier to remember where you’ve been.

And seeing all 50 states is a great goal. My hubby has had the privelege of travelling for years so he is way ahead of me too, but I still would like to achieve it.

Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!

  9. Susanne Said,

Fun meme! We want to go on an Alaskan cruise for our 25th Anniversary. Hopefully that will come true.

  10. Gail Said,

Oh fun answers! I love most anything to do with travel…….and I’ll go to those overseas places with you if Tim won’t, or if they decide to golf instead! But, we have to fly to those!

  11. Simply Dawn Said,

That was a great meme. I’ve been begging Patt to go on a crusise and it’s always NO, but he did say last night an Alaskan cruise would be one he’d consider…

  12. melanie Said,

I love this meme. It was very interesting and made me thinks it’s time for a vacation!

  13. Coach J Said,

I want to go to Alaska, too!! On a cruise, with my hubby 🙂

  14. Shawna Said,

Traveling the states sounds fun! A had a great aunt and uncle that made that their goal. They went on a lot of bus tours. I’m not sure it they made the goal or not. And an Alaskan Cruise sounds great, too.

  15. JennaG Said,

I always buy a magnet on vacation–unless, of course, I forget. I have a refrigerator full of the. We’re hoping to go on an alaskan cruise for our twentieth. We’ll see.
