I was so excited when I won one of the Netflix complimentary subscriptions that Nan, over at her blog “Life is Like a Lunchbox” gave away last month. I’ve been burning a path to my mailbox every day since then, waiting for the information packet to come in. I had nearly given up hope, but a month after I won it, the package came! Yeah! I was literally jumping up and down and both Tim and Beau were eyeing me like I had lost my mind 🙄 I just love winning things, love having “fun” stuff come in the mail, and I love to get practical things that we really and truly will use. This is one of them.
I setup our free trial late Saturday night and immediately began adding movies to our queue. I’ve had a blast ever since then, trying to find movies for us to get, and reordering them in our queue. I was a bit bummed to learn that Netflix does not ship movies out on Saturdays or Sundays. For some reason, I think I was equating them in my mind to Amazon or someplace that worked around the clock, 7 days a week, to ship me my goodies 🙂 Anyway, the long weekend over, my first movies were mailed late yesterday (Monday) and we are hoping they come in the mail today. I’m so excited, I can’t wait 😀
I also downloaded and installed a plug-in for my blog, to show what we have at home from Netflix and also what is up next in our queue. Check it out on my sidebar, below and on the right. I think it’s so cool!
OK, so for my question – I have a bunch of movies in our queue, but I’m always looking for more suggestions! If you’ve seen a good movie, especially one that might have been a “sleeper” or not a blockbuster type movie that you’ve seen and enjoyed, let me know what it is! We see a lot of movies at the theater when they come out, and rent even more, so I’ve actually had a hard time trying to find movies. I’m finding some older ones, and some of the new releases that we haven’t seen yet to add to our queue. But I’d love to get more ideas 🙂 Leave me a comment and let me know some movies I should get!
Net Flix is great. You can find all the older stuff that you missed because you were watching sports. Oh wait, thats probably just me.
You know I am in the same boat! I will be watching your queue to see if I can steal suggestions from you. I have had several people tell me to watch Night at the Museum.
We have the blockbuster version of Netflix and we love it. We get to trade in our movie for a new one at the store (which is within walking distance so that works out great) so we get the best of both worlds. It is fun to get something in your mailbox like a DVD!
I’ve the perfect movie then for you. “The Last Sin Eater” . We just watched it on the weekend. Based on the book by Francine Rivers. Used lots of kleenex in that one!
Let me know about Catch and Release. My last movie rental was a tossup between that one and Music and Lyrics. I chose Catch and Release, but the last copy was gone when I went to get it, so Music and Lyrics won. So-so movie to me, at least.
If you want, I can add you as a friend to my Netflix account and you can look at my queue. I have a huge one!

Netflix is AWESOME! You will love it. And it’s a great Christmas or birthday gift for those hard to buy for people. My queue is over 100 long and I can’t think of a single thing to tell you to put on yours! I love being able to get some of the really obscure documentary type movies and the series I don’t see on HBO since I’m too cheap to pay extra for premium channels.
MIchael keeps up with our Netflix..He always has good surprises
I don’t know if you’ve seen the previews for the movie No Reservations, but I’m pretty sure its a remake of a movie called Mostly Martha. My mom and I picked this up one day a few years ago and it’s really cute. Don’t know if it’s something Tim would like, but you never know…he seems pretty flexible with movies.
We just saw another great movie. Definitely not a block buster but keeps getting held over at the movie theatre that dosen’t premiere stuff. It’s called “the Ultimate Gift”. Wonderful movie. Not sure if it’s out on DVD yet, but worth it to check into it.
I like Netflix, but I use it in a very streaky manner. I’ll watch 4-6 DVDs a week for 3 weeks (usually TV series) and then go a month without using it. As for right now, we have four DVDs checked out and have had the same four for over a month, haven’t watched them.
As soon as I send them back I’ll be reliving my childhood watching the cartoon series StarBlazers.
And here I am with yet another suggestion. We saw “Freedom Writer’s” with Hillary Swank last week. Great movie. Based on a true story.
Afraid I don’t have any suggestions for you, but I wanted to say how excited I am for you! I keep trying to talk Rich into joining Netflix, but for once it’s him being practical (usually that’s my job), saying that we have literally hundreds of movies here that we haven’t watched yet due to lack of time, so what makes me think we’ll miraculously find some spare time if we join. Party pooper!
Cool! I’m glad you won something so neat!
I recommend “Junebug”, although you may not like some of the language. It’s not TOO bad, though, and the movie’s good regardless.
Oh, and “I am David”. This is a wonderful movie!!! I’ve been meaning to review it but haven’t had time, but I’m recommending it to everyone who likes a very “moving” film. It’s independent, so it’s not full of thrills or attention-getters, but it’s just a beautiful, touching film. It has several of the actors from “The Passion” in it, as it was filmed around the same time, and in Europe.
I am excited for you getting all set up with Netflix! We love our Blockbuster online account. Searching for movies to watch is so addicting to me.
I love Netflix-I manage to keep mine at 450+ most of the time! Night at the Museum was awesome! If your wanting some suggestions I would try browsing the American Film Institutes’s Top 100 lists at here

I am working on picking up some of the older stuff I haven’t seen yet.
Two that I really enjoyed myself is a movie called Lonestar and another movie called Jack Bull. They are two of my absolute faves! Good luck with your movies!
