QOTD – Car Wash

Today’s Question of the Day is also tied in with my photo for today on my Project365 blog 🙂

The frugal side of me (aka, the cheap side) would prefer if we got out the soap and buckets and washed our vehicles on our driveway. We used to do that, way back when. It was always hot, but fun. Well, it was fun for me, because Tim did most of the work, LOL!!! These days, we seem to fall into the convenience category. When one of our vehicles needs a bath, we drive to the car wash place down the street and sit in the air conditioning while our car goes through the tunnel for a wash. It comes out nice and clean and we don’t even break a sweat. Of course, we pay dearly for it, but hey, Tim thinks it is worth it.

So, that’s today’s Question of the Day – do you wash your own car? Does your spouse or kids wash the vehicles at your house? Do you run through a car wash at a gas station or local place, or even pay for someone to come out and wash your car at work or wherever?

Here’s my photos, at the car wash 🙂

  1. Project 365 » Day 169 Said,

[…] I’ve posted my photo for today over at my regular blog, here.  There’s a “Question of the Day” associated with it, so hop on over and answer if you’d like to play along […]

  2. Lynne Said,

We found a great carwash. It’s one of those hold the wand and spray the crud off the car ones. This one gives you about 15 gazillion hours for just $1.00. Well, maybe not that long, but it’s the longest one I’ve seen. We can spray the car with the soapy water, then use the brush over the whole car, rinse, wax and rinse for $1.50. We used to do the cars here at home, but since there’s a watering ban we can’t do that any more.

  3. amy Said,

We hit the car was as well…Simply because of coordination on my part

  4. Gail Said,

Did you take those pics from inside your car? Is it that kind of car wash?
Well as you know, my car NEVER gets washed! You’ve seen it often enough!
Once in a very great while we’ll hire someone to wash it, not sure I’ve ever been through a machine thingie. Don gets someone to do his truck on a more regular basis though but he doesn’t get mine done. 🙁

  5. Bev Said,

I’m relatively cheap when it comes to doing things for or to the car. The Kid keeps asking me to take it to a car wash but I’ve usually always passed the place before he finishes asking so …

Anyway last year while we were at Walmart he found his way over to the automotive section and got one of those Mr. Clean car washing kits and snuck it into the cart. I say snuck, he says he just put it there for my approval. I made him a deal on it. If he would use it, I’d get it and he’s been happily washing the car using that thing ever since. The windows usually need a touch-up afterwards but other than that it seems to work fine.

  6. Carrie Said,

We do both. Whatever is easiest at the time. I hate paying to have it washed, LOL. Most of the time, I have the girls wash my car for me. David’ll do the touch-ups if they miss anything. :o) My car stays in the garage so it doens’t get that dirty, heehee!

  7. mamichelle Said,

Holy smokes, how on Earth did you get those photos?! They’re great!

    p.s. have you been to http://www.goodreads.com/ ?

  8. mamichelle Said,

Forgot to answer the QOTD: In the spring/summer my dh usually does it. In the colder months, I zip through the car wash.

  9. Sadie Said,

I never wash my own car. My husband has, on occasion, but usually we both opt for convenience. He likes to go to Mr. Pride and pay a ridiculous amount of money. I like to pay $5 and go through the automatic car wash.

  10. marianne Said,

ya, we’re into the convenience mode. I don’t have my car to wash anymore and I can’t remember the last time I saw Lew wash his, but it’s been years. I used to like to go through the automatic one too – those brush thingies are so cool!

  11. Lauren@Baseballs&Bows Said,

The frugal side of my hubby still wins. He washes them himself. As a matter of fact, he did it Saturday!

  12. Judi Said,

We wash ours here at home. 🙂

  13. Laura Said,

We do both. My husband is frugal but also lazy. The lazy usually wins out. 😉

  14. Sparky Duck Said,

Nope nope nope, much easier to get it done professionally and I dont have to climb all over the basement to turn the outside water on. Safety for me

  15. Dianne Said,

As usual, a fun QOTD! I used to spend hours washing my car at least twice a month. That was when I lived with my parents. I think my dad and I had a secret contest to see who could keep the nicest vehicle. Then I got married. I can’t remember the last time I washed my car myself. Although I do get antsy if it gets dirty inside. I used to be terribly afraid of car washes when I was a kid though, and I still get sick at my stomach in them – go figure.

Speaking of car washes, I have to take mine tonight after the ordeal with the broken windshield today – but hey, it was a day not at work 🙂

  16. Heidi Said,

There is a local gas station that gives you 20cents off (per gallon) your gas purchase if you get a car wash. So I wait until my tank is almost empty and then fill up for cheap and get the cheapest car wash available. I only do this every other month.

We vacuum our car at home because the price of those is ridiculous other wise!!

    Good question!

  17. Kara Said,

What?!?!?! Cars can be washed? Who knew?!?!

  18. Debi Said,

Never once been to a car wash. Definitely not in the budget. Besides, the kids LOVE doing it.

  19. JennaG Said,

We go to the carwash most of the time.

  20. Cam Said,

Neat picture & great idea to take one in there!

I do NOT like the car wash-all the ones I’ve seen don’t give you an option to skip the wax–and if ANY dirt is left after the wash (which is common), you’ve just sealed that dirt right into the paint. But most of all, I’m too cheap, anyway…it’s expensive! I do a better job myself, and I like doing it because it’s a good workout. I’m the one who washes our vehicles, and I do both on the same day, about once a month.

  21. Claire Said,

Well, I don’t have a place to wash my car at my apartment, so it’s either the car wash or my brother washes it when I go home. I HATE washing cars…so, when I get married, that will be one of the chores my husband does…I’ve already decided THAT!

  22. Stacy Said,

@ the carwash… (now I’m singing that song…) But Jeff has to run it through. I’m afraid.

  23. Desert Songbird Said,

Car wash for my minivan (it being the newer of the two cars and definitely the more expensive one). It’s like yours – the kind that you don’t drive it through (it goes on the automated belt), and then it gets lots of TLC inside from the guys at the end of the line. Yes, we pay handsomely, but we feel it’s worth it.

Hubby’s car goes through the speedy car wash at the Mobile station, the kind were you sit in the car and the washing appliances to back and forth. It’s half the price of the other one, but it does a decent job.

  24. SnoopMurph Said,

I love the pictures. No, I don’t take my car into the car wash, I usually have my sons “help” me at home. Although, I imagine I should have taken it in a few times for a good cleaning and waxing because the AZ sun has been blistering the paint off of the hood and roof.

My husband alternates between washing at home or taking it in to the car wash. He has the nicer car though.

  25. Michael-Lover of Amy Said,

Personally I have a 12 model year old Jeep, and at this point the car wash is not very important. Amy has a year old Honda, and it needs a washing. My brother used to wash his by hand, and probably still does.

As for car washes as fund raisers, I have learned a lot. The City of Roswell, GA has banned them for two years, due to watering restrictions and the soap chemical runoff in the storm sewers. I saw a lot of them with Chick-fil-a for sports teams and schools and churches.

When I was in Orlando I lived very close to the University of Central Florida and the Wendy’s and the Chick-fil-a near the school hosted a lot of car washes, for fraternitys, sororitys and service groups. Here is the key. If you want to have a successful car wash, you need women between 18 and 25 in bikini tops holding signs out by the roadside. You will get a LOT more traffic this way

BTW I am adding you to my links. I appreciate your frequent visits and comments.

  26. annie Said,

I love the car wash that I can zip my debit card in. It is $7, but worth it. I go there every time.
Before that I would either go to the one at the gas station you drive through, or use the sprayer at the car wash. I don’t enjoy that much… I always get frizzy hair 🙂

  27. trista Said,

Great QOTD! We do a combination of both. Being coupon nuts, we tend to take our vehicles to the car wash when we have a coupon. I really like that they hand dry the truck, something we never take the time to do, and I also like the way they treat my leather seats with armour all. Hubby has pressure washer that does an amazing job. We, (read: HE) also likes the Mr. Clean car kit that hooks to the water hose.

  28. Michelle (Emmell) Said,

I would love it if we washed our cars at home, but time never seems to be on our side and we end up running them to the car wash.

    BTW, cool car wash photos.

  29. Jenny A. Said,

Okay, I’m days late, but I ususally will go through the wash at the gas station. But on occasion, the kids want to do it (my short daughter in particular), and I’ll end up helping a lot with the top!
