Book Meme – Preferences

I saw this a while ago at Deena’s blog – A Peek at my Bookshelf. Thanks for sharing, Deena, here’s my answers!

What’s Your Preference??

1) Novel or novella? Novel, definitely. I like to watch characters grow, and see what happens to them and how they turn out 🙂

2) Hardback or paperback? Both. I like the new larger size paperback best, but I will read hardbacks and paperbacks.

3) Male authors or female authors? I read some of both, but I think I do read more women authors lately than men.

4) Fiction or non-fiction? Oh, easy one! Fiction all the way. I have a hard time reading non-fiction

5) Bestseller or obscure title? Bestseller. I like to read what others are reading and stuff that is “good”. Usually the bestsellers are pretty good

6) Local bookstore or chain franchise? I know it won’t be a popular answer, but I do patronize chains like Borders and Barnes and Noble. We have a copy of local bookstores I keep telling myself I want to go to, but I haven’t yet.

7) Read the book first or see the movie first? Book is always better, I think, but I have done it in reverse order. I usually try to go back and read the book afterwards, but that is harder, since I already know how it’s going to turn out.

  1. CMChristine Said,

I 100% agree that books are always better! I am always disappointed when I see the movies. 🙂

  2. Gail Said,

I think my answers would be almost the same as yours. 🙂
    Big surprise there, right!

  3. amy Said,

This was a fun post…We have a lot in common

  4. shellsq Said,

I agree with you on all of your answers, Stacy! There’s only one I would semi-disagree with – I typically choose male authors. I have favorites like James Patterson but this one book I read did not seem like it could be written by a man because he knew a woman’s feelings so well ( Wally Lamb in She’s Come Undone). I can’t think of the other favorites at the moment.

  5. Sherry Said,

    1) Novel or novella? Novel

    2) Hardback or paperback? Both. I like the new larger size paperback best, but I will read hardbacks and paperbacks. (ME TOO)

    3) Male authors or female authors? I read almost always female. Some classics are male and maybe one out of every 10 books are a male writer.

    4) Fiction or non-fiction? 8 out of 10 are fiction —- cept right now I am reading a lot of nonfiction for school and church.

    5) Bestseller or obscure title? Bestseller. Once in awhile I will read something obscure and be very happy with it — but almost always bestseller in its genre. At least something with excellent reviews on amazon!

    6) Local bookstore or chain franchise? Almost all of my books are from thrift stores, library sales, and amazon.com. I rarely ever buy a book new. (I’d have to get fewer that way, LOL)

    7) Read the book first or see the movie first? Book is always better! Yep!

  6. Laura Said,

You can’t deny Barnes & Noble! It’s so wonderful to be surrounded by simply everything that could be in a book.

  7. deb Said,

“Local” bookstores are, sadly, almost a thing of the past and the big chains keep popping up everywhere. Heck, I can even buy bestsellers at the grocery store now!

And I agree…the book’s always better than the movie 🙂

  8. Cam Said,

Neat meme, great answers! I like this one.

  9. kailani Said,

I know I should support smaller family-owned stores but I tend to go to Borders, too. They have everything and they’re usually cheaper. Sorry!

Hi Stacy, I agree with most of your answers. 🙂

  12. Debi Said,

Oh, what a great meme! I know what you mean about the local bookstores…I feel like I should go there…but I just love the whole atmosphere thing going on at B&N and Borders so that’s always where I end up. Oh well.
