Pizza, Pizza!

PizzaOK, we’ve got a “Question of the Day” here, except that it’s got multiple parts, and it’s going to hang out here for the next couple of days. We’ve got a busy weekend ahead, and I may or may not have a chance to blog much for the next 72 hours.

My nephew graduates from college tomorrow, and we’re going to have a bunch of family over tonight to hang out and eat supper. We’ll either have pizza or maybe grill something. But, today’s topic is Pizza.

Here’s some of the questions I want to ask, feel free to answer any or all of them!

1. What kind of pizza do you like?
2. What toppings do you like or not like?
3. Do you like thick and crusty pizza, deep dish, or really thin pizza?
4. What pizza place do you like to get pizza from – delivery, a local place, a chain restaurant? If delivery, are you particular to one place, local, Domino’s, Papa John’s, Pizza Hut, etc.
5. Do you ever make homemade pizza?
6. Do you have a family tradition of having pizza at certain times or on certain days of the week?
7. Do you eat the crust?
8. If you do eat the crust, do you like to dip it in something? Marinara or a sauce? (We LOVE the garlic butter sauce from Papa John’s).

Whew! Here’s MY answers:
I love pizza! I love ordering pizza and have it arrive piping hot at my door. I like different kinds of pizza than Tim does. Tim is happy with a “works” pizza, but I like things like a Hawaiian (ham and pineapple) or a spinach Alfredo, all things that Tim would really rather not eat. We both really love Papa John’s, but we basically never met a pizza we didn’t like. We have no self-control when it comes to pizza. We’ll eat until we’re absolutely stuffed. As for toppings, Tim will eat them all, and prefers a pizza with everything on it. Me, I don’t like green peppers, and I’m not fond of olives, but I’m trying to teach myself to eat olives, so we order them with it. I have never tasted an anchovy, but I really don’t think I’d like it. I’ve made homemade pizza and we like that. I have picked up pre-made pizzas at Sam’s and brought them home to bake in the oven and those are good too. We will eat the “cheaper” pizza like Little Ceasar, but we really like Papa John’s or Pizza Hut.

How about you? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Hope you all have a wonderful day, and a wonderful weekend! To all of you mothers out there, hope you have a great day on Sunday. If you still have your mom with you, hug her and tell her you love her. I miss my mom and plan on taking flowers to her grave this weekend. Then we’ll get to see Tim’s mom, which will be great 🙂 Gonna be a busy few days, but I’ll try to post if I have time, either to this blog or my Project365 photoblog.

  1. Susanne Said,

Oh you’ve hit upon one of my favorite things in life. I loooove pizza and can eat it anytime. We have it at least once a month.

We usually get the regular crust with the regular sauce. I don’t like the stuffed crusts at all. And we usually pick up.

My fave is from a chain outlet here called Pizza 73 and the kind I love and crave is called LITE. It’s got feta cheese, green pepper, onion, black olives and fresh tomatoes. Yumm! But I also like pepperoni, green pepper, mushroom ones, or Greek style with spinach red onion, garlic and feta.

Basically the only thing I don’t like on pizza is anything fishy. Anchovies, shrimp, blech. I’m also not nuts about Italian sausage because it has some spice I don’t enjoy. I’m also not nuts about pizzas that are loaded down in meat.

Always eat the crust, but it’s so good from the place we get it and I like to dip it into the Santa Fe ranch sauce they have. What’s a few extra calories on top of all that cheese. :vD

The only pizza I have made is BBQ pizza. Done on the BBQ with bbq sauce instead of pizza sauce, grilled chicken or steak, mushrooms, peppers, onions, cheese. It’s wonderful and a nice change and doesn’t heat up the house.

See, now you’ve gone and done it. I’m drooling and craving pizza and it’s only 8:30 in the morning. :vP

  2. Susie Said,

    1. My favorite pizza is a Pizza Hut Pan Supreme. But I also love Giordano’s from Chicago!
    2. I don’t really care for big hunks of sausage, but I’ll try just about anything else (not anchovies, though, of course!)
    3. I prefer pan – it’s probably the least healthy, that’s why it tastes so good!
    4. Pizza Hut is my fave. However, we’ve tried Domino’s a few times lately and they’ve improved. We stopped using Papa John’s because they made us mad like 7 times in a row (I think it’s just bad management at our local one).
    5. No, unless you count the Red Baron frozen pizzas!
    6. Not really, but that’s a great idea! We sometimes get pizzas and share with the in-laws (since they’re just next door and all). They pay for it if we’ll go get it. 🙂
    7. Not usually – Jeff eats it for me!
    8. Nope, but again, that’s a good idea!

Stacy, you never fail to make me hungry! 😛

  3. Simply Dawn Said,

Wow a topic on pizza…whoo hooo hello! Yummy!

Love pizza. I love pepp, bacon, ham, bell peppers. I love the speciality pizza’s..i just love pizza all together. Now living out in the country I wouldn’t know how it felt to have it delivered to your door…hehe sounds fun but we like to make a date night out of it. And we love to make homemade pizza too!

Hey there’s a new place on Lakeland past Dogwood. Scilliy’s (i think i spelled it right) but it’s before the Wal-Mart on the right in that little plaza. We went there last Friday night and it was awesome! Ok do I tell the girls I want pizza for lunch today or wait and tell Patt that’s what I want for date night, ohhh but there will be pizza today and lots of pizza!

Have a great weekend. Weather is suppose to be great!

  4. Laura Said,

Enjoy the graduation! I LOVE pizza, I remember being in first or second grade when “pizza” was everybody’s favorite food. 😉 I used to only like pepperoni, but these days I’ll eat just about any kind, especially combos. My fav toppings are pepperoni and olives, and veggies like tomatoes and onions and bell peppers. And the CRUST is my favorite part – if it’s good! I’m a bread person, so it makes sense. 🙂 However I am a bit of a pizza snob and my favorite pizza is from an expensive chain that a lot of people feel is too expensive. Personally I think it’s worth it.

  5. Karen Said,

I stopped at your photo blog — Neat!

Okay, here’s my take on pizza:
I LOVE pizza! I like it topped with a couple different kinds of cheese, veggies and maybe one kind of meat. Not crazy about lots of meat. I like thin crust, with thick edges. We mostly get pizza from Papa John’s because it’s convenient. I also like Woody’s pizza and Beau Jo’s is fabulous (I think that’s just a local place. Just a couple in the Denver area.) I rarely make homemade, the fun is having someone else do the cooking. We have takeout pizza a couple times a month. I love dipping the crust in honey. Fun question!

  6. Debi Said,

Yummy topic, Stacy! Is there anyone out there who doesn’t love pizza?!!

I love stuffed crust pizza! Mmm. And it sounds like I like the same kind of toppings as you. My absolute favorite is ham and pineapple! But Rich won’t eat that…he’s more like Tim. So we usually end up settling for plain cheese or pepperoni (but we have to pick the pepperoni off for our little vegetarian). I like all kinds of crusts…sometimes I’m in the mood for thin and crispy and sometimes I want it nice and thick. I think Pizza Hut delivery is my favorite up here. But we do Papa Johns sometimes, too. I really miss CiCis, but they don’t have them up here. I have made homemade pizza, and it’s okay, but just not quite the same, if you know what I mean. I don’t think we have many traditions involving pizza. Well actually the past few years, Rich and I have ordered pizza on Valentines Day after the kids have gone to bed. And as for the crust, I usually eat it. Definitely if it’s stuffed crust! If not, I still usually eat it, but am much happier about it if I have some marinara to dip it in.

Hmm…wonder if I can convince everyone to stop for pizza tonight for supper?

  7. Carrie Said,

Pizza is one of my least favorite foods. Although, when I crave it … I gotta have it and it tastes so good. About twice a year I enjoy a pizza because I want it rather than because the family wants it. Ham and Pineapple is my all-time favorite but I do enjoy *The Worls*. Yep, Pap John’s is the only place I’ll eat it from.

Thin crust is my favorite but original crust is fine, too. Just don’t stuff the crust and I’ll be fine, LOL.

We used to make homemade pizza with the girls but haven’t in years. We’re wanting to try grilling a pizza this summer. I’ve heard it’s yummy!

My Dad goes out for Pizza every Friday night. So, when he visits, you can only guess where we eat! LOL! He likes lil’ Mom ‘n Pop pizza joints, though.

I eat the crust now (didn’t use to) and I dip it in the garlic sauce or ranch dressing.

When I was a kid, I would flip my pizza upside down and only eat the dough and sauce.

  8. Cam Said,

I love pizza of almost any kind. The only kinds I won’t eat are American creations: taco pizza, pineapple, or other things like that. Yuck!
My favorite is Papa John’s sausage pizza; I eat it with those delicious peppers they always give you. I take a bite off the pepper, then a bite of pizza…yum…
I prefer pan pizza but will eat any kind.
My least favorite is “authentic” New York pizza. We were surrounded by those authentic pizzerias when we lived in NY, and even though we had them many time, I didn’t think they were very good at all. I prefer Papa John’s over any of that.

  9. Cam Said,

OH- enjoy the graduation and the get-together! 🙂

  10. Lauren S. Said,

Have a great time. I LOVE stuffed crust pizza from Pizza Hut, and I like mushrooms, sausage, and green peppers on it. That is my dream pizza!

  11. Mandalyn Said,

Pizza is one of my favorite things in the entire world!! Love it!! My favorite is pepperoni. I prefer Pizza Hut but my husband likes Papa John’s. If we order from PH, I live hand tossed crust. If we order from PJ, I like thin crust–I don’t like their regular crust. We have made homemade pizza before but I like ordering out the best!!

  12. kaliblue Said,

My new fav, fav pizza is a flatbread with white sauce and plenty of red onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, olives, and crumbled bacon with smoked mozzarella on top.

My next new fav is BBQ pizza:-).
    Have a great weekend!

  13. Gail Said,

I love pizza but we hardly ever have it! At home we only have Pizza Hut for ordering or eating out. I have made it at home before, Don & I actually like it that way!
We like the works! except for anchovy

  14. Sherry Said,

Oh boy — pizza! I love so many kinds!

I love the thick square pizza from Jets with pepperoni.

I love thin crust with banana peppers and black olives.

I used to be wild about this little hole in the wall that would make me green olive and feta pizzas. There is another place tha tis not a chain that I sometimes get a “greek” pizza from — olives, feta, red onions.

I love Pizza Hut personal pan pizza that is the combo w/ the green peppers, onions, and mushrooms.

I do eat the crust — and no, I don’t dip it.

I love bbq chicken pizza, “white” pizza (garlic, chicken and cheese I think? I got it when I visited NH)

There is a new one I want to try from Cottage in that has meditteranean — I’ll keep you updated. LOL

    Sherry

  15. Southern Girl Said,

Ooo, those are great questions! I LOVE pizza! They were such good questions, I just put them in a blog post. 😉

  16. SnoopMurph Said,

I love New York style pizza, it’s what I grew up on and it’s our welcome home to NY food every time we go back to visit our family. I am not a fan of super thick pizza, like Chicago style. I love plain cheese with lots of red pepper flakes. I don’t mind veggies, love jalapenos, no onions or anchovies. My favorite crust is thin, but the crust is my favorite part, so I don’t mind thick crusts either. We order from local businesses that make NY style pizza only. Occasionally Dominos if we are too lazy to go out and pick up. No homemade pizza here. I am not that creative.

We have pizza night on Fridays normally. And, as I mentioned, my husband and I ALWAYS have a fresh pie waiting for us whenever we go home to New York. That is tradition too.

I eat the crust, my husband hates crust, so I eat his too. My older son hates it and my younger son loves to chew on the crust. I don’t like to dip the crust.

  17. Bobbie Said,

Oh I love stuffed crust pizza from Pizza Hut with ham, bacon and extra cheese 🙂

  18. Marianne Said,

I love pizza! My favorite kind is the Veggie Lovers on thin crust from Pizza Hut. My DH is all about meat though, and I’m sure I amuse the staff there when I order a large Meat Lovers pan pizza and a medium veggie lovers on thin crust.

Because I eat thin crust, I seldom have a crust to eat (the toppings go all the way to the edge). If I have a thick crust, I only eat it if it’s stuffed with cheese (YUM). My DH either spreads butter on his or dips it in ranch dressing.

    Pizza. Yum.

    Now I’m hungry.

  19. Lynne Said,

Have you ever tried a pizza from Donato’s? We used to have them here in the Atlanta area, but I guess they didn’t do too well so they all closed. When Anne and I went up to Ohio, we found one in Columbus and I was in hog heaven! They taste different. I don’t know how to explain it. Very thin crust and really fresh toppings. I get a veggie one with tomatoes, onions, green peppers, and green olives. Yum!

And when we went to New York, I was able to get a slice of really good NY pizza. Love “mall” pizza and the kind you get on the boardwalk down the shore.

We’ve had “make your own pizza” night here a few times. I’ll make individual size crusts for each of us, then we’ll top it the way we like. Dom piles so much stuff on, it takes forever to cook! I’ll just take the veggies and sometimes add pepperoni.

  20. Heidi Said,

I like pretty much all kinds of pizza except I don’t like anchoves. There is a local place we usually order from b/c they have good overall pizza. But some of the chains are awfully good too! We do make home made pizza sometimes.

As for family traditions, I don’t have one now, but when I was a little kid, we always had pizza on Tuesdays because there was a buy one get one offer that day and we had a big family.

And yes, I usually eat the crust (unless it is from a bad pizza place and then it isn’t worth the extra calories).

Good questions. I hope you have a good weekend!

  21. rach Said,

Congratulations to your nephew. I wish him good luck in his choice of career. Have a wonderful family get together. Here are my answers:

    Ooh, I love pizza!

    1. What kind of pizza do you like? Hawaiian! Nothing beats this! ;P
    2. What toppings do you like or not like? Well, I don’t really like green peppers and olives.

    4. What pizza place do you like to get pizza from – delivery, a local place, a chain restaurant? If delivery, are you particular to one place, local, Domino’s, Papa John’s, Pizza Hut, etc. Always Pizza Hut!!!

  23. mamichelle Said,

I love pizza but it’s not on my diet. So….BSB (before south beach), we used to order it on Fri. night or I’d make it. Or sometimes on Sat. or Sun.

My favorite is Hawaiian but the guys would not eat that. We typically order a plain and a pepperoni. I prefer veggies with pepperoni or just veggies.

We typically order for delivery. My boys love Dominoes or a local joint that has what we call Greek pizza ( a greasier crust). My dh and I love an Italian crust or Boardwalk pizza. We love Papa Gino’s (I think they’re a local chain). They have an excellent blend of cheeses and a nice sauce, not too sweet.

So it really depends on who wins the fight as to where we order it from. I just have to tell you a funny topping. My son loves chicken finger pizza with bacon. Weird combo, huh?!!

Sometimes my dh and I can sneak out and get Bertucci’s. We love their crust! We get the chicken/broc. & white sauce one. Yum.

I used to make pizza when the boys were younger and money was pretty tight. I always bought the dough at Bertucci’s and made Pampered Chef recipes. A favorite back then was a white pizza, just garlic and lots of different kinds of cheeses & oil.

One more thing to add…there’s another local joint near work and they make a delicious soft and doughy crust. I usually get the broc./spinach/ricotta & garlic one. I’m starving after this conversation!!!

  24. Sparky Duck Said,

1.depends on my mood. A sicilian needs everything on it but the kitchen sink or anchovies. a round pie would be perfect with mushrooms, pepperoni and black olives.
    2. yes well, you can see my likes and dislikes from above, though I am also not a big fan of pineapple on my pizza.
3.Deep dish is best, but crusty pizza is great from NJ
4.Pizza in Philly is kinda sucky, the local places cant touch Jersey pizza. So we get Papa Johns, mostly because they are so convenient. I can order online!!!
5.Not yet, I have done the boboli and I am thinking of breaking out the bread machine for crust
6.Pizza used to be a tradition on Monday night, because my mom worked until 9 on Monday nights and our favorite local pizza place had a $3 off deal.
7 & 8. Yes, but not al of the crust and yes now that I have had Papa Johns

  25. Shawna Said,

    1. What kind of pizza do you like? Most of the time, plain cheese.
    2. What toppings do you like or not like? I like pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, spinach like at Cici’s. I don’t like supreme but I could eat it if I had to.
    3. Do you like thick and crusty pizza, deep dish, or really thin pizza? All except stuffed — gross!– the best crust I think is Pizza Hut
    4. What pizza place do you like to get pizza from – the cheapest which lately has been Little Caesar’s, which I don’t really care for. I prefer Papa Johns, pick up only since we only live 5 minutes away
    5. Do you ever make homemade pizza? more than out; my hubby makes the best chicken pizza!
    6. Do you have a family tradition of having pizza at certain times or on certain days of the week? nope, I usually object to pizza because I had rather waste calories on something else like chocolate cake!
    7. Do you eat the crust? sometimes
    8. If you do eat the crust, do you like to dip it in something? Marinara or a sauce? I don’t usually dip but boy I do love the breadsticks with marinara at Pizza Hut

  26. Dawn Said,

    1. What kind of pizza do you like?
my favorite is a thin crust pizza with tomato slice, fresh mozzarella & basil. or a deep dish tomato & spinach.
    2. What toppings do you like or not like?
i like just plain cheese. or pepperoni if they cook it crispy. i also like green peppers but only if they are crunchy & sliced very thin. i will eat meatball, hamburger or a meat lover’s pizza. not crazy about hawaiian, or supreme. i will tolerate onions but i wouldn’t order it that way if it was up to me. absolutely *no* mushrooms or achovies.
    3. Do you like thick and crusty pizza, deep dish, or really thin pizza?
i prefer thin, except for a deep dish tomato & spinach.
    4. What pizza place do you like to get pizza from – delivery, a local place, a chain restaurant? If delivery, are you particular to one place, local, Domino’s, Papa John’s, Pizza Hut, etc.
Pizza Hut is about the only place that i get because my options are limited.
    5. Do you ever make homemade pizza?
    never tried to be honest.
    6. Do you have a family tradition of having pizza at certain times or on certain days of the week?
we used to get it on Wednesday nights when i was a kid. now i just get it when i have a craving.
    7. Do you eat the crust?
    not usually
    8. If you do eat the crust, do you like to dip it in something? Marinara or a sauce? (We LOVE the garlic butter sauce from Papa John’s).
if i get Papa John’s that’s about the only time i eat the crust specifically because i love the garlic butter & marinara dipping sauces!

  27. trista Said,

I rarely meet pizzas that I don’t like, Alan is a little more picky than myself.

    1. What kind of pizza do you like? As a general rule, we get pepp pizza whenever we order a pie.
    2. What toppings do you like or not like? I like all toppings. Alan only likes pepp.
    3. Do you like thick and crusty pizza, deep dish, or really thin pizza? My favorite crust is thin and crispy, but I love crust, so any will do.
    4. What pizza place do you like to get pizza from? If delivery we usually go with Pizza Hut. Alan hates it, but in a pinch he will eat their wings. We normally order a XXL pie from a local chain called Nizza Pizza. This is not my favorite pizza by any means, but it is Alan’s. The family is from New York, and they make the New York style pizza, that Alan LOVES! The kids prefer CiCi’s or Double Dave’s as they are buffet style, and you can have a variety.
    5. Do you ever make homemade pizza? We usually make homemade pizza once a week. Thursday nights. Sometimes I make one large pizza, other times I will roll the dough out so that the kids can make their own pizzas. Then we have a topping frenzy, it is usually a fun family time.
    6. Do you have a family tradition of having pizza at certain times or on certain days of the week? Not really, unless you count #5 above.
    7. Do you eat the crust? Oh yes! I am a bread fan! Some days, I prefer to give most of my pizza to Alan and just eat the crust, with a little portion of the pizza left on it.
    8. If you do eat the crust, do you like to dip it in something? Marinara or a sauce? (We LOVE the garlic butter sauce from Papa John’s). I like the garlic butter, but my favorite dipping sauce is Ranch dressing. MMMM! I am craving pizza for sure now!

    Great QOTD!
