Nothing Exciting Here!

Well, I feel like I should blog about something other than my weekly menu, a book or movie review, or a meme or tag. I do try to post my “question of the day” fairly often, because I feel like it’s a fun and kind of interesting way of talking about myself, as well as learning more about the wonderful people who take time out of their busy day to visit my blog. I love seeing the ways that we are all alike, yet all different. It reminds me that I live in a very small corner of our incredible world, and there are lots of other ways that people think, act and live.

However, that doesn’t really fill in for what most people expect to find in a blog. I feel like most people blog about interesting things, fun times out of their day, their kids and the cute things they say, family times, and a whole myriad of other entertaining topics. I don’t feel like my blog has been anywhere in that realm lately. Maybe its just me and the blahs, or maybe its just because I lead a very boring, an exceedingly mundane kind of life. I live a simple life and that’s totally by choice and by plan. But it doesn’t make for a very interesting blog.

Plus, I seem to be putting more of my daily type ramblings over on my Project365 blog. Swing by and check it if you haven’t. Nothing interesting, but at least it’s a photo and a blurb about something that happened during the day. Usually, it’s a picture of food, a flower or my dog. Riveting stuff!

So, here’s a few minor things in my head… buckle your seatbelts 🙂

  • I watch a lot of TV. I’m currently rooting for Apolo Anton Ohno on DWTS, for Jordin on American Idol and Yeo-man on Survivor. I’m to the point in the year where I’m about ready for our TV shows to end for the summer. Then, we can watch more movies and catch up on other things. And watch more football tapes. Tim has already started pulling out his Saints DVDs of last year’s games. We gotta have our football, year round, around here 🙂
  • We’ve watched Lost since the very first episode. I’ve expressed exasperation at this show before, yet I still keep watching. What happened to Locke last night? Who is this Jacob thing? Where is this show going? My only consolation is that they’ve announced an end date for Lost, in 2010. Only 16 episodes per year, which is 8 less than 24 which is only on in the spring. It won’t be a lot but at least they have a final to shoot for, and hopefully will answer all of these endless questions they seem to pose.
  • We have a busy weekend ahead. Graduations and Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day is one of my least favorite times of the year. Don’t get me wrong, I love my mother-in-law and love to celebrate a day devoted to her, but I miss my mom and the “poor poor pitiful me” syndrome always strikes me. I always feel sorry for myself that we weren’t able to have kids and I will never be a mother. It’s a very difficult time of year for me. 🙁
  • We’re having a lot of overnight company in the next couple of weeks and then we’ll be headed out on a big family vacation. Seems like some days I just keep washing the guest bed sheets and guest bedroom towels, wondering who is coming next 🙂
  • I started a new book that I love. Unfortunately, I messed up and got one in the middle of this new series. I hate it when I do that. I got book 5 out of 8 in the “Southern Sisters mysteries” by Anne George. When I was searching my library catalog online, I must have just been searching my library, not all of the ones in my system. Sigh. After I finish book 5, I’ll have to backtrack and read books 1-4. I’ll have to request them from different branches, but I’m just glad they have them all. I don’t like to read series books out of order and I don’t like to read just some of them. It’s this completion complex I have 🙂
  • I’ve stopped making homemade bread. I haven’t fed my sourdough starter in several weeks and I guess it is dead and I need to toss it. I haven’t been in a very good cooking mood lately, more of a rut. I seem to get like this most every year when we start getting into our hottest months. Summer is such a bummer here. It’s already getting in the 90’s and I just don’t enjoy being in the kitchen, over a hot stove and with an oven blaring. I like for Tim to grill and for us to eat salads or something out of the crockpot. You know, stuff that doesn’t put out a ton of heat. I haven’t baked in ages, because I hate turning on my oven (which is icky, sometimes it bakes evenly but most of the time it does not).
  • We’re trying to walk more, which is good. Tim is losing weight every week and me, well, I haven’t lost a pound. It gets very discouraging. Of course, he’s playing golf too and I’m sitting on my tush reading a book in the air conditioning, so I guess that could be part of it. 😀
  • Beau is good, and we’re doing good. I really can’t complain. Some days Beau will eat his food and some days he won’t. Sort of like a kid, I guess. He seems healthy, except for the itching and constant ear infections. I need to take him back to the vet, but I just haven’t done it. I know it’s some kind of food allergy, but we can’t narrow down what he’s allergic to. I bought a brand of dry food that he ate for 2 months that had no beef, no wheat, no corn. And still he itched and got infections in his ears. I guess he’s allergic to me.
  • Ok, I guess that’s enough boring randomness for today. Hope everyone else is having a great day, and a great week

Nice post. Its nice to get back to posting and not doing contests and memes sometimes. I am rooting for Jordyn as well. I havent watched LOST yet but hopefully tonight.

Thanks for posting. Sounds like a good book you are reading

    2. Project 365 » Day 130 Said,

[…] I’m back into a bit of a rut with both blogging and taking photos.  So, since I never really finished taking photos and blogging about some of the red things I have here in my house, I thought I’d take a quick detour back to my “Shades of Red” theme.  Blogger privilege […]

    3. Cam Said,

Your blog is so NOT boring! Believe me, if I found it boring, I wouldn’t stop by at least once daily, because I wouldn’t be interested.
I enjoyed this post, though. Nice to know what you’re up to and what’s going on in your head.
I’m sorry about Mother’s Day. I definitely understand because I used to dread it, too. 🙁 I kind of wish it didn’t exist, even still, because it’s so hard for so many people.
Beau eating one day and not the next is JUST LIKE a kid! LOL!

    4. Dianne Said,

Sometimes nothing is exciting, if you know what I mean. I know what you mean about mother’s Day. This year I am doing the Race for the Cure. I made the decision not to subject myself to a difficult day at church and am excited about getting out early and walking (a whole 3 miles – LOL!)

Your blog is definitely not boring. I always look forward to your posts – such good and interesting variety! I wish I could think to post more “day in the life” kind of stuff. My blog readership is fizzling fast yet I still enjoy writing stuff.

Did I tell you I’m coming to visit next month? KEep those sheets clean! Just kidding!!!

    5. Lynne Said,

I love reading your blog! I don’t think anyone has a life that is EXCITING every day – I know mine isn’t .

Hope Beau’s itching will stop. I know just what you’re going through. We have Teddy, the king of picky eaters who also has a red, itchy belly, and Maggie the queen of itches – but she’ll eat anything that’s not nailed down. We’re trying a new med for Maggie. I’m going to have to take out a home equity loan to pay for it, but I’ve heard that it might really help.

I don’t think you have to have personally given birth or raised a child to be a mother. If you give “motherly” love to another person or animal, you’re a mother. Happy Mother’s Day, Stacy.

    7. Elizabeth Said,

Thanks for sharing! I LOVE when people just list things about themselves. It makes me feel like I’m actually making a friend, because I know something about you.

My husband and I don’t watch ANY T.V….that is, shows on the T.V. at their correct time. HaHa. We watch a LOT of T.V. series that we get on DVD after the season is over. This is mainly because we are only home with extra time VERY late at night.

Anyway…we watch Lost, 24, Prison Break all on DVD…except now abc.com lets you watch the most recent episods of Lost [and other shows] online, so we’re keeping up with this season of Lost, too. I’m COMPLETELY addicted! This season actually became a bit boring and we talked about not watching anymore. I’m glad we kept going, though (I have that completion mentality, too) because I think it’s starting to get interesting. We haven’t watched last night’s episode yet, though…we’ll watch it tonight.

    8. annie Said,

I never really got into lost… so many people I know love it and I just don’t. I agree with you on your choices for AI and Survivor. Matt has been taking his role of priest of our family pretty serious and as a result thinks we watch too much tv. I watch more during the day, tivod just fast forward most of it while feeding Izzy or taking care of her.
We’re headed to Dallas tomorrow and probably won’t be home to celebrate mother’s day. I need to make sure my mom feels special anyway.
Just checking in, hope your day is blessed.

    9. Carrie Said,

Ya know, I have often struggoled with what you were talking about. *what others expect when they read a blog* … I decided to not worry about what others expect. My blog is for *me* to enjoy and release whatever I want from my life …whether it’s a menu plan, a meme, a review … whatever makes ME feel good to write. I decided not to worry about what others expect. Once I made that choice, I have really enjoyed blogging so much more. I don’t expect any type of certain posts when I visit blogs on a regular basis. The only time I’ve ever stopped reading someone’s blog was when they made a personality change and started being negative, angry and snarky all the time. That just drains me, reading about grumps and frumps 100% of the time. So, you post whatever makes YOU feel good and I’ll be here to read and enjoy your posts because *you* wrote them! :o)

    10. Susie Said,

Girl, you have a wonderful blog! Don’t ever feel bad if you need to do memes and tags and book reviews every day for even as long as a month, because you’re one of the rare ones who can make anything you write about entertaining.

I will be thinking about you this upcoming weekend and praying that somehow it won’t be too upsetting for you. *hugs*

Jeff always loses weight a lot easier than I can – that is so unfair, isn’t it? We are the ones who are supposed to have to worry about our weight, not them, yet it’s like 1000% more difficult for us to get rid of the pounds. Sigh.

It is yucky to have to cook over a hot stove when the humidity outside is 90% and it’s 85 degrees, I agree! We do try to eat more salads during this time of year. I’ve been craving a nice, big cobb salad lately.

      Happy Thursday, Stacy! Take care.

    11. Debi Said,

Oh, you silly, silly girl! If your blog was as boring as you seem to think it is, would we all keep coming by every day?
But you know, I think most people probably feel just like you. Seriously, how many of us have anything earth-shattering to talk about. I think it’s the connection and the whole down-to-earthedness (o.k.-that’s not really a word, but I’m sure you get my meaning there) of our daily lives that is the whole attraction. It is for me anyway. I love seeing how sweet and wonderful people are out there. People with all kinds of religious and political beliefs. Not that I write about such things. Nor do many of the people whose blogs I read. But still you get a feel. And it’s extremely comforting to feel how “good” people are out there!
I truly love reading about your life! When you skip a day, I feel almost deprived!
I just noticed what Carrie wrote up above there, and I have to agree with her…it’s not worth worrying about what you think other people might expect. I’m like her…I write whatever strikes me and makes me happy to write about at the time. If no one wants to read it, well, that’s okay. I just hope that I never say anything to offend or hurt anyone. That would make me want to quit blogging entirely.
Anyway, Stacy, don’t change a darn thing! We love you and your blog just the way it is!

    12. twiga92 Said,

I seem to be going through a blogging funk also. Maybe it’s the time of year. I’m not overly fond of Mother’s Day either. Partly because I’m not a mother and also my mom lives overseas so I don’t see her very often. So I understand about it being a hard time of year. Keep being your sweet self! I enjoy your blog 🙂

    13. Simply Dawn Said,

I love your blog. You and Gail were my first people I found in MS and I love visiting!!!! It’s always fun here!

Us not having kids I totally understand your feeling on Mothers Day. Even though we’re thinking about trying soon, I seem to always want to skip church that Sunday. Plus with all the happy things going on, but I’ve learned the past few years that you don’t have to BE a mom to Be a mom….I think a mom is a heart thing and girl by reading your blogs you’ve got so much love that I’m sure you’ve blessed many of children and you are so loved so enjoy the day and make sure Beau gives you extra kisses too. (i hope that made sense..i sometimes mean one thing and it totally comes out wrong…but hugs to you..I really do get what you were saying)

      Love…Dawn

    14. Karen Said,

Blogs are about everyday things and a way to stay connected. I enjoy your blog! Mother’s Day is bittersweet for me too. We’ve talked about missing our moms. I know a number of people who don’t care much for the holiday. It’s kinda like Valentine’s Day, a lot of people can take it or leave it! Do something nice for yourself, and just call it a day:)

    15. kailani Said,

Sounds like you’re running a B&B over there! At least you’re never lonely!

    16. annie Said,

      ♥~thanks Stacy~♥

    17. Sonya Said,

I don’t think you’re boring at all. I love that your life is simple and that’s what I strive for. I love LOST but I am growing anxious to get all of these questions answered. All the ones you asked about the episode from last night are questions I have as well. The Jacob thing is slaying me right now because I just don’t get into the invisible man kinda thing! LOL! I too am in a cooking rut and just want to leave my crockpot on 24/7 or grill something every night! I want to check out the book series you mentioned. Sounds interesting and is has to be good since it has Southern in its title! LOL! Going to check out your other blog now….in the meantime, keep up your posts about random nothingness (or whatever you called it) because I enjoy them!

    18. Sherry Said,

See? We all love hearing about your “every day stuff”! so ha!

I’ve watched “Lost” since the beginning too. I’m wondering the same thing as you. But with Locke, remember that he was a super quick healer? When his leg got caught under the hatch door? So I don’t think he’ll die. Of course I could be wrong! The Jacob thing is weird — I don’t know if it is a ghost or what — but I don’t think it’s just Ben, because of the whole “help me” thing — and another reason why I think Locke will live.

As for DWTS — I like Joey Fatone, Laila Ali, AND Apollo! I will be happy if any of the three win. I usually really only like one couple, but this time all three of them really make me happy 😀 I used to have a big crush on Joey in the N’Sync days! I still like his looks and his goofiness. I’m weird like that! And I think Laila has great moves and grace for a bigger, muscular woman. And Apollo looks like a professional and I think he has a great chance of winning. His partner is so cute at 18! I can’t believe what a great choreographer she is!

      Sherry

    19. Southern Girl Said,

I always enjoy *whatever* you choose to put on your blog, Stacy, so don’t worry about that. Even the everyday mundane things are good for me, ’cause chances are they’re not the same mundane things I’m doing. 😉

I’ve watched Lost since the very beginning, too, and they nearly LOST me this season — there were a few weeks I didn’t see the show or only half watched it and didn’t really miss it, but the last couple of episodes have reeled me back in. I might have been confused for much of last night’s episode, but I was definitely entertained by it.

      I’m sorry Mother’s Day is so painful for you — I can only imagine how much it would be. I know how I’d feel if my mother wasn’t here, and I know the difficulty in facing that day as one unable to have children. I went through a really hard time dealing with that during my college years. Then one day that desire was just gone, replaced by a desire to see my little brother become a father, I guess. Goober has definitely helped fill a void for me. {{{{{Stacy}}}}}

    20. Heidi Said,

I think lots of people feel pain on Mother’s Day for lots of reasons–two being the reasons that you mentioned. I guess most of the world looks at this as a “one size fits all” holiday since we all obviously had mothers, but I’ve learned from blogging and other friends with sad stories that this really isn’t the case.

It’s hard to bake when the weather gets hot. I don’t blame you for taking a hiatus from breadmaking.

    21. Kim Said,

You silly girl! Your blog is NOT boring. I wouldn’t be popping in here nearly daily (and missing you if I don’t) if it were boring. I am so happy for you that the other branches have the Anne George books. I swear I just don’t want to finish the one I’m reading because it’s the last one.

I’m sorry that Mother’s Day is a hard time for you. My dad has dreaded it every year since he lost his mom years ago. I’m not a real big holiday person myself, but I understand how holidays can be tough.

It’s hot here too. I mowed at noon today (like a big dufus), but it was good exercise.

    22. Susanne Said,

I loved this post Stacey. I’m sorry this time of year is hard for you. I’ll be thinking of you all weekend.

I’m with you. I hate it when I read a book in the middle of a series by mistake. How’s your hubby losing weight? Just the extra walking?

    23. trista Said,

Stacy! Your blog is so NOT boring! BTW, this was a great post in itself. Sometimes it just feels good to write about some of your thoughts, even if it is random. I know this is after the fact, but I sure hope that Mother’s Day was not too much for you. I know that you miss your mom, and it must be hard during this time of year. ((hugs))
