QOTD – Swapping Closets

Closet Judi, over at Mommy of Two‘s blog, has suggested a couple of great questions for my “Question of the Day” feature here on my blog. Isn’t she sweet?! Thanks Judi!

We’ve already asked two questions and here’s her last question – do you change out your closet when the season changes? or do you just keep all your clothing in the closet year round?

My Answer – I wish I had enough closet space to be able to move stuff around! As it is, we have all 3 closets in our house jam packed. It’s a good thing we don’t have other people living here, and a good thing our guests don’t bring a lot of clothes to hang up! I keep the majority of my clothes in our master bedroom closet, that I wear year round. I keep all of my spring, summer and fall clothes in our closet, and a few of my bigger bulkier winter stuff (sweatshirts, sweaters, fleece pullovers, big jackets, etc) in our spare bedroom/office closet. Tim does the same with his winter stuff in our other guest bedroom closet. But the majority of clothes we wear year round stay in our closet. Out of necessity. We just don’t have the space. I hope that one day, when we move to a bigger house, I have a lot more closet and storage space. I drool over the thought of a walk-in pantry, a linen closet in a hallway and {gasp} a walk in closet with built-ins and lots of shelving and rack space. The packrat in me would be in heaven. 🙂

So, how about you? Judi and I would love to know, so leave us a comment! 🙂

  1. Debi Said,

Oh, how I wish our closet was big enough to keep all seasons in there! But Rich and I share a fairly small closet as it is…and seasons are very different from one another here, so there’s not a lot of overlap. So our off-season clothes are in tubs under the bed, and some are hanging in our laundry area in the basement. I’m with you…I want a big old walk-in!

  2. Sherry Said,

For the kids — I put stuff in rubbermaid totes and store downstairs. For me and dh, our stuff just stays in the closet!

    Sherry

  3. Carrie Said,

I keep all seasons in my closet. I have the whole right side to our large walk-in closet and the back half is one season and teh front half is for the other season. :o)

  4. Gail Said,

I have a big walk in closet, as you do too Stacy….but we keep all our clothes in there year round. Don has one half and I have the other, we try to put current season stuff more in the front and shove the out of season stuff toward the back. I do have more closets than you so I might could take all out of season stuff out and put somewhere else, but that would be AFTER I EVER get all the stuff out of the other closets! Stuff the kids won’t take with them, arghhh!

  5. Laura Said,

I swap clothes out for the seasons. Summer is awful because nothing actually gets taken OUT, just brought in. We still have to wear pants and work clothes. As it is, my summer shorts are in a box under my bed and I’ve been pulling it out for when I need shorts (occasionally). 🙂

  6. Lauren S. Said,

I have a nice closet, but I don’t have many clothes! I really don’t buy clothes that often. Everything I have is in my closet!

  7. Cam Said,

Ugh, small house dilemma makes it where I have to store all my clothes in the same closet. But, I don’t have a whole lot of clothes, so it’s not that bad. And, an extra perk is that I RARELY wear long sleeves, even in winter, so I don’t have a lot of winter clothes. If it’s cold, I’m usually wearing short sleeves and my hooded sweatshirt jacket over it. I’m not exactly a fashion slave! 😀
So what long sleeves I do have, are kept in a remote section of my closet, even in the winter. I just have to work a little harder to get to them whenever I do decide I want to wear long sleeves…which makes it all the more likely I’ll just go with short sleeves & a jacket. 😛

  8. Heidi Said,

We have small “walk-in” closet and we keep all our clothes in there. I guess we keep alot of things in drawers, plus, I am always goign through our clothes and giving away items that we don’t use. I try to give them away if we aren’t using them (but not wait so long that they are totally outdated).

I wouldn’t have the patience to go to another room to find clothes:)

  9. Sparky Duck Said,

yes sort of. Long sleeve shirts and golf shirts swap themselves in the spare bedroom. The wife does not, because she got the better, bigger closet

  10. Lynne Said,

I keep a lot of things in drawers. Dom and I each have our own closet. Mine also hold our laundry hamper and comforter for the bed. His is L-shaped and we use the back part as a storage area. Neither one of us has a different wardrobe for the different seasons. The only “winter” things we have are a couple of jackets we keep in our hall closet. Now Shelby’s closet is a whole other story!!

  11. Simply Dawn Said,

I try to fold my winter sweaters and put them in the top of the closet, but for the most part my closet and I also have “my room’s” closet slamed full of all season clothes. And yet still I never have a thing to wear…..

  12. Claire Said,

All of my hanging clothes stay in the closet year round, however, I do move the out of season clothes to the portion hidden by a wall…the part that is hard to reach! My folded clothes get switched out of the dresser into a couple of boxes that are stuffed in the same portion of the closet but on the floor.

  13. Shawna Said,

One closet. I would never take the time to change my clothes out. It took me forever to take my maternity cloths out of the closet!

My mom used to change out her winter cloths until my sister and I moved out. Now she has 3 closets, so she doesn’t have to change. My MIL had her utlitity room converted to add two closets, one for winter, the other for summer. I’m so jealous of her.

  14. amy Said,

When I was younger mom used to box up seasonl things and bring things down from the attic..Not enough energy for me! I have everything in my room..I wear shorts to the gym in January and we go home to fl all the time so we keep it all in the closet…good question

  15. annie Said,

i just packed away all my sweaters in a tote aimed for the attic and also packed away all my boots and winter shoes. i have a walk in closet and most of it is my stuff, but I try to sort through it.
It’s nice to see what everyone else does… I could probably just keep all my clothes in the closet if I got rid of all those things I don’t wear.

  16. Sandra Said,

I pack away all my sweaters and coats but pretty much leave everything the same, I don’t know if it’s just because I’m lazy or my clothes work for both summer and winter, which in itself if a scary thought LOL

Now you have me feeling paranoid and I’ll have to think about this LOL

  17. Judi Said,

I keep all mine in the closet. I don’t have ANY storage space anywhere else so it has to stay. I have the same dreams as you Stacy for the pantry and closets. Sigh……someday! 🙂 THanks for asking the question!

  18. Kim Said,

I leave it all out. I don’t really have lots of clothes so it’s pretty easy to leave it out. I do end up pulling it all out and going through and re-organizing everything once or twice a year. My husband actually uses more of the closet space than I do because his work clothes consume so much room.

    Have a good day!

  19. JennaG Said,

We do not swap out our clothes at all. I did hang all our hangers backwards back in February. After we wear something, we hang it up the right way. After a year, anything that is still hanging backwards has to go. I am guessing we will be getting rid of a lot of stuff.

  20. rach Said,

I keep all my clothes in a single closet. My dream is to have a spacious walk-in closet with built-in drawers and shelves for clothes, bags and shoes.

  21. trista Said,

Ohhhh! Ohhhh! Drooling at the walk-in pantry. That is SO on my wish list for our next house.Currently, we have a walk in closet, with 3 sets of racks (to the ceiling) and we tend to keep our long sleeve winter type clothes up on the third tier, and use a little retriever pole thingy (like in the clothing stores) to get those clothes down. There are very few cold months here in Texas! Great question Judi!
