Seasonal reading

Does what you read vary by the season? For instance, Do you read different kinds of books in the summer than the winter?
If so, do you break it down by genre, length of book, holiday, or…?

Very interesting question. I had never really thought about this before. I sort of do this, at least a little. I like to read a Christmas type story at the holiday season, but that’s about it. I don’t change what I read the rest of the year, based on season or weather or holiday or whatever. I like to read new/bestseller type books, series books, new books by favorite authors, trying new authors, etc. I have a huge list of books I want to read, based on recommendations from friends, family, bloggers and fellow bookworms. I literally have over 100 books on my list to read, and I don’t let the time of year dictate what I want to read when.

  1. Gail Said,

I think reading something Christmasy in December is about as close as I come to reading something seasonal also. Once in a while I might read something that might be more like “beach lit” in the summer but usually I just read what I want!

  2. alisonwonderland Said,

i just took a look at your “TBR Shelf” and your “2007 Reading List”. i’ve got some of the same books on my lists!

  3. Karen Said,

I like to read something Christmasy in December, too. For some reason, in the summer I may re-read a book that I really like — I’ve read the Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher a couple times. It’s a wonderful story! I wish I lived in a cottage like Penelope’s. I’ve also re-read the Mitford books the past couple summers. Otherwise, I usually just grab something from my TBR list and also belong to 2 book clubs, so there’s also something to pick up from thsoe.

    Fun question!

I think you and I have discussed this before!

  5. Julia Said,

Hi Stacy – I ditto what you said. I read basely on recommend or word of the mouth. And moods play a great part in my reading *grin*

Happy BTT – have a good day! Here is Mine!

  6. Heidi Said,

100 books yet to read! You sure are an avid reader. I just read whatever I happen to have around. Since I get most of my books from others’ bookshelves…

  7. Debi Said,

Yep, that pretty much sums me up, too.

  8. Melody Said,

All right, Stacy! 😉 Happy BTT!

  9. Literary Feline Said,

I ws just thinking about how many different types of seasons there are out there . . . I read less during the new TV season. LOL When networks started releasing new TV shows during the summer, it really messed up my TV free summers. Fortunately, I don’t watch too much TV in actuality, but I do notice a difference. 🙂

  10. Trista Said,

Interesting question. I have never given that much thought. I would not say that the season has any part in my selection of a book. In fact, we have two Christmas board books that Joshua chose to read a few days ago. Of course, kids books are a totally different subject. I tend to read whatever I can get my hands on, no matter what it is.
