QOTD – Toothpaste

ToothpasteOK, I’m going to piggyback off of yesterday’s random post, the one where I talked about turning off the water when brushing your teeth, and also that I’ve read that you’re supposed to brush for the same amount of time it would take to sing Happy Birthday 4 times through. You guys are really funny – several people left comments about how hard and how messy it is to sing while brushing your teeth! Maybe humming or singing silently to yourself is what I should have written. 😆

Anyway, another quick Question of the Day: Are you brand loyal where toothpaste is concerned? Do you, your spouse, your kids all use the same brand and flavor or type of toothpaste? Have you always used the same kind or did you change brands when you got married, had kids, etc?

My answer: I’m a Crest girl. I grew up using Crest and still do. Thankfully I married a guy who also grew up the same way. We both still use the plain types of Crest (paste, not gel, and none of the flavored stuff). I’ve bought some of the gel and some of the flavored stuff (Cinnamon Burst or something) and Tim never likes it. I am not opposed to trying a new toothpaste or flavor, but I honestly don’t know what to buy and what we would both agree to use. We don’t use the whitening stuff, but we probably should with the amount of coffee and soda we both drink 🙄

How about you? Leave me a comment and let me know what you and your family do on the toothpaste front!

  1. Debi Said,

We’ve used Colgate Total ever since the dentist recommended it for Rich’s gums. The kids generally use Kid’s Crest, because I’ve found it to be the least messy!

  2. Dawn Said,

i grew up on Colgate. prefer the gel to the paste though. paste makes me feel like my mouth is chalky afterward for some reason. i was using Colgate Total & rather liking it up until about six months ago. i got a travel-size of Crest ProHealth toothpaste for one of my trips & *loved* it. i haven’t even been tempted to try anything new since!

as for flavor? must be mint. anything but mint is just impossible for me to associate with a clean mouth. minty fresh, ya know? =P

  3. amy Said,

husband likes paste over gel. he says I make a mess with either..Crest or Colgate is fine with me.. Whatever is one sale!

  4. Becca Said,

I use Arm & Hammer Advance White, because it has baking soda in it and not a lot of grit. I hate that feeling after I have brushed my teeth. This leaves none.

Hope that you are having a good day!

  5. Laura Said,

I grew up with Crest, but I like to grab whatever looks cool and new.

  6. Carrie Said,

I grew up on Crest, as well. I still buy Crest for me and David. The girls like whatever toothpaste has the cutest cartoon character on it at the time of purchase, LOL. I tried the Lemon toothpaste and GROSSSSSSSSSSS! That stuff should be illegal! Nasty! Nasty!

  7. Heidi Said,

Wow, I really don’t have any specific kind or flavor or brand! Just whatever I can find for cheap. Usually it is whitening though.

    🙂

  8. Lauren S. Said,

I grew up on Aim, but I use Colgate now. I usually stick with one brand, but hubby switches around. We don’t share a tube, so he can get whatever he wants!

  9. Gail Said,

We mostly use Crest but I do have a container of Colgate right now, it’s not a tube but a squirt type thing……I like gel or something minty rather than paste!
They took my small Crest squirt bottle away from me at the airport last month and the only brand I’ve found since then was Colgate. And we usually have something that is whitening too!

  10. Lynne Said,

I was raised on Crest, but now we’re using Aqua-Fresh Extreme Clean. Shelby has to use something without a whitener. She gets this rash above her lip caused by some bacteria. It took years to find out what it was and how to get rid of it. The dermatologist she saw said that it is worsened by using a whitening toothpaste. Who would have thought that?

  11. Karen Said,

Had to check out your website — great name! As for toothpaste, funny you should ask. We are an Aqua-Fresh family. That is, that’s what they all like, so I just go along with it. (Why don’t I treat myself and just buy a tube of Colgate? That’s what I like!). Lately, the selection of Aqua-Fresh is driving me crazy. There are so many different kinds — whitening, tartar resistent, extreme clean — I keep buying the wrong kind, no one likes it, and I have to go buy more. No wonder life seems so complicated!

  12. annie Said,

We use crest mostly too. I bought some new whitening crest last week I think I like a lot.
The kids always want some kind of kid’s toothpaste so theirs varies.
I don’t like it too hot though.

  13. Cam Said,

Hey, I grew up with Crest, too; the paste, also. My dad still insists on getting that kind, and every time I use that kind, I instantly think of my dad and all kinds of growing-up memories. It’s kind of like nostalgia toothpaste to me!
Anyway, we use AquaFresh, in the pump. My one & only reason for getting this brand is because it’s the cheapest! It’s less than $2, much less than anything else I’ve seen. All 3 of us use it.

  14. Dianne Said,

That long huh? That explains why my teeth hurt all the time now I guess! As far as toothpaste goes, I used to LOVE Pepsodent toothpaste, used to eat the stuff if I could. Now i”m a Colgate girl. Must be paste – no gel. I hate gel toothpaste; it gags me!

  15. SnoopMurph Said,

Definitely Crest all the way. I love the stand up tube, but I miss just the regular blue gel, fresh mint. Not with all the sparkle, flavor, mouthwash, whitening stuff. I just need plain old toothpaste! Anyway, we all use the same kind.

  16. Melody Said,

I’m not that particular about brands, but I notice the hubs loves to buy Colgate. LOL.

  17. mamichelle Said,

Great question! I grew up a Crest girl but somehow switched along the way to Colgate. I can’t remember how or when it happened.

My dh is a Crest man so we have our own tubes. My boys both like different ones and my mom has her own. So it used to be three toothpastes in one bathroom until my son moved out. Now there are two in their bathroom and two in mine.

I love my Colgate whitening. But I have to rinse with that new Listerine prebrush rinse first and then with Listerine Cool Mint afterward. Gotta love a fresh mouth!

  18. Jim McKee Said,

OK, now I know where I messed up. I played the song “Birthday” by the Beatles 4 times. No wonder my gums were bleeding.

    ;-]

  19. Susanne Said,

At my house I’ve alwyas bought whatever flavor and kind of toothpast each person wanted. I figured if it made them brush it was worth the couple bucks. My daughter’s teeth get really white from Colgate Fresh Confindence. My hubby likes the Colgate Max Fresh. Funny my daughter, when I couldn’t find the Fresh Confindence this last time and bought home a new mint flavor that was purple, asked where her tootpaste was. I said I couldn’t get it this time and would the new one do? Her reply was she could not respect a toothpaste that was purple. Kids are funny!

  20. Southern Girl Said,

I’m not nearly as picky about toothpaste as I used to be, now that I have to buy it myself. 😉 Any more, I’ll use whatever I have a coupon for, but I much prefer gel over the paste. Since I’m all about free samples, I frequently get samples of a variety of toothpaste, and I’ll use it all. When I was a kid, my favorite toothpaste was that green gel from Aim.

  21. rach Said,

My husband prefers Colgate but I often use Sensodyne. My son uses Oral B berry flavor. My son likes it and I tried it once because I was curious. ha!ha!

  22. Sonya Said,

We are Crest kind of people here! We use the kind that has baking soda in it or Scope or something like that! LOL!
