Question of the Day

MusicSince I blogged below about some songs I like and listen to, I thought I’d ask a Question of the Day about music.

What kind of music do you listen to? What genre, how current or how old? How varied are your musical tastes? My answers are obvious from the musical meme I did below – I listen mostly to country. I do listen to some pop stuff, like Josh Groban, John Mayer, Rob Thomas, Kelly Clarkson, stuff like that. I also like a lot of 80’s music. The music I grew up with 🙂 Bon Jovi, Def Leppard and all of the good 80’s rock.

Also, how do you get your music? Do you mostly listen to music on the radio, on an mp3 player/iPod, on CD’s in your car or home stereo, or what? Me, I love my iPod but I don’t really listen to it all that much anymore while it’s on my person, with ear plugs. Ever since I got a base system for it (a clock radio in my bedroom), I mostly listen to it through the speakers. Oh, and on my new laptop, I listen to music all the time. I either play music from my iTunes library through the speakers or use the earplugs that came with the laptop, or I stream radio from an Internet site.

How about you? Leave me a comment and let me know all about your musical preferences!

  1. Diana Herrera Said,

I have Sirius and listen to one channel! 74 – the blues. I venture off occasionally but always come back. I have an iPod loaded with all my blues favorite artists.

  2. Write From Karen Said,

Funny you should ask that. I’m sitting here (well now, I’m actually cleaning house today – BLEH) and JAMMIN to the radio on my iTunes. I listen to category Electric > 202.fm Energy. LOVE that station. It plays energetic music and never fails to make me move (literally). The hubs gave me an awesome speaker/sub-woofer set for my computer and I crank it most of the time (I love it loud and fast, hehe). When I go walking, I take my iPod. And if I’m traveling for any distance, I take my transmitter for my iPod to play on my car radio and jam to tunes that way. I rarely listen to regular radio anymore.

Genre? Mostly dance/techno tunes because it energizes me. Otherwise, mostly pop / rock – Nickelback, Hoobastank, Avril Lavigne and of course the classic stuff – Bon Jovi (both old and new), AC DC, Collective Soul. I like the newer country stuff, nothing too twangy. *grin*

I honestly don’t know what I would do without my iTunes. *be-bops back to chores*

  3. Becky Said,

All I really listen to anymore is Contemporary Christian on a local radio station or on the TV. Some of my favorites that are not CC are Kelly Clarkson, John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Indigo Girls, Ben Harper, Dave Matthews, Norah Jones, Dixie Chicks, and many many more. I love music. All kinds of music. I don’t care for hard core rock or rap though. I like to chill out to some classical music, too! I have an Ipod but haven’t got it loaded yet…silly me! I so need to do that! Love the Question!

  4. Simply Dawn Said,

I love all types of music except rap. Can’t deal with rap 🙁 I love Christian, Country and I love the 80’s music. Actually this weekend I think some of us are going to see Dr Zarr play. Have you seen them play before. I know they use to play a lot out around the Resviour (sp?). They play late 70’s and 80’s and played at last years conference and we loved them!

  5. Dawn Said,

you & i have a lot of similar taste in music. the playlist on my blog is constantly evolving — a variety of genres, some new songs, some a little older, some from “back in the day.” whatever happens to pop into my head is fair game for showing up on the blog player! i mostly listen to that playlist — or one of the others i’ve constructed using that site — or the radio.

  6. Debi Said,

I grew up at the same time as you…and love that good old 80s rock, too. And I love a lot of music from the 70s, too…not so much disco, but a lot of the stuff I remember listening to on the radio as a kid. Don’t have much of a clue at all about the music of today, I’m ashamed to say. Lots of other odds ‘n ends…Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Dixie Chicks, Barenaked Ladies…
I really, really, really want an iPod, but there’s too many other necessities to spend our money on lately. Someday. Mostly, I listen to CDs in the computer. For some reason, when I put the radio on, I always listen to NPR instead of music.

  7. Laura Said,

I can’t even begin to answer this, because I listen to everything. And I mean everything. Old, new, rap, country, pop, classical, jazz, emo, showtunes, everything. And everywhere. On the computer, in the car, at work, on the portable player. XM Radio, CDs, mp3s, you name it.

  8. Cam Said,

Cool, Stacy! I like that you like the good old 80s rock!
Music is my life! My very favorites are probably classic rock, 80s rock & pop & new wave, and as far as current music, I only really like indie rock. And I always love Johnny Cash, but I’m not sure what genre he fits into.
I don’t like anything they play on mainstream radio, and I especially dislike current pop & even current mainstream rock for the most part. So if I listen to the radio, it’s talk radio…or sometimes one of the pop stations has an 80s music hour–I’ll listen to that.

I listen to my iPod almost exclusively, either on my person or in my dock connected to the stereo.
We have Sirius satellite radio in our house (through our satellite subscription), and we listen to that every day, all the time. There’s an 80s station, an 80s hair band station, classic rock, new wave, indie rock, outlaw country, and all kinds of other good stations that play interesting music. I wish we had it in the car!

  9. Becca Said,

I listen to mostly country and on my pink IPod and we have a dock for it here at home. I love it. I listen to mostly anything but Rap and hard rock, just isn’t me. I love the Dixie Chicks and Faith Hill and Martina McBride.

  10. Karla Said,

80’s child here, too! In fact, that is my favorite music and about the only type of music I listen to. (Other than the many cds of children’s music I listen to in the car.)

I listen either on Yahoo! Music…or Music Choice on Comcast! I also have a LOT of Greatest Hits of 80’s artists’cds and 80’s Compilation cds.

I never really wanted an IPod until recently so I think I may be getting one for Mother’s Day. 🙂 Also…we are planning to buy XM radio for our car this Summer. 🙂

  11. Stacy Said,

I’ll listen to everything, but I tend to listen to country in the am (better djs) and a mix in the afternoons on my ipod driving home. The only thing I thought I didn’t like is rap, but I’m finding that the more I hear the older rap stuff, the more I like it. I don’t like the ganster stuff that is out today though.

Jeff loves one of those XM stations you can pick up on the plane. It’s a mix stations of 80, 90, today. He hates not being able to fly home on his company. The competition doesn’t have XM. 🙂

  12. Lynne Said,

I AM SOOO OLD!!! If I mentioned the singers that I like to listen to, no one would even know who they are. Take me back to the late 50’s and early 60’s please. Singers and groups from Philadelphia – Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, the Kit Kats. See, I told you that you wouldn’t know them!

I’ve made a bunch of CDs to play in the car – full of oldies. I just don’t understand some of this current music. I like the simple stuff that had a melody and lyrics you could understand.

I’m just going to get my walker now and check into the Old Fogies Home!

  13. Heidi Said,

I don’t like country or rap, but I do like selections from about every other genre.

I usually listen to music off of iTunes on the computer, from my husbands iPod through the dock, or maybe through the sound system via the DVD player.

I barely drive anymore, so I rarely listen while in the car.

Good question, lots of answers this time!

  14. Jane Said,

My tastes seem pretty similiar to yours. I listen to music on my Creative Zen when I am running. Otherwise I listen with Windows Media from the computer, I like to do a lot of mixes, or play a genre. 🙂

  15. Susie Said,

I have such an eclectic taste in music. I can go from listening to the mellow beautiful music of Celtic Woman to rocking out with Fergie. One thing that may surprise you is that I love the Spice Girls. Some people think I should keep that fact to myself. 😉

I usually get all my music from my iPod. In fact, I just downloaded the Amazing Grace soundtrack from iTunes earlier today, and it is almost as awesome as the movie.

  16. mamichelle Said,

I guess I don’t really know what my genre is. It’s not pop, not really alternative. hmmmmm. I love Gomez, John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, Jack Johnson, Pete Yorn, KT Tunstall and a bunch of older ones like Santana, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt.

I listen to my radio in the car or cds. At home I listen to my Ipod on the Bose thingy!

  17. Gail Said,

I listen to some of everything; show tunes, Broadway, some rock, pop, Christian, some country like the more contemporary ones, etc. I’m not much into rap but like tons of other stuff and even some that you don’t like, imagine that!
I use ipod some, cd’s, car radio but am not fortunate enough to have XM right now.
After we looked today at something to dock my ipod in with speakers I might have to get something along those lines.

  18. Sparky Duck Said,

I am completely diverse, as you could tell from my musical meme. Though I do lean towards 80s and 90s stuff and of course the hits of today. I am not much into country but I do have my favorites. Though I hear country music fans say the Dixie Chicks dont count. And when I say 90s its Hip/Hop and Grunge, not exactly two genres that stay together.
I lurve lurve lurve my Ipod. I have the cassette connection for the car, and a stand for the kitchen, downstairs. I want Airtunes so I can listen in the shower!

  19. amy Said,

Great question. SInce college, I have really been into Conemporary Christian. I am also a huge country fan..My two favorite artists are Steven Curtis Chapman and Rascal flats. My hubby has gotten me into listening to 80s stuff again

  20. Michael - Lover of Amy Said,

My collection is very eclectic. Probably the three artists with the greatest representations are Jimmy Buffet, U2, and Deborah “Debbie” Gibson. The rest runs the gamut (SP) from Contemporary Christian to Country, some 80’s hard rock and 90’s grunge, pop from the ages, classic rock and oldies, some Mozart and a lot of movie soundtracks and theatre cast recordings.
