TV Chatter

Even though I’m a huge TV addict and watch a lot of TV, I don’t normally blog a whole lot about it. But, they just announced the new contestants for Dancing with the Stars, and we watched Idol last night, so I feel the need to blabber a little bit about TV. Bullet-style:

  • ABC announced the new dancers for “Dancing with the Stars” today. They are: Heather Mills (former wife of Paul McCartney), Olympic athlete Apolo Anton Ohno, female boxer Laila Ali, former basketball star Clyde Drexler, actor Vincent Pastore (“Sopranos”), actor/singer Billy Ray Cyrus, former ‘N Sync member Joey Fatone, Miss USA 2004 Shandi Finnessey, former “Entertainment Tonight” host Leeza Gibbons, model Paulina Porizkova and former “Beverly Hills, 90210” star Ian Ziering.
  • Dancing starts on March 19 and will air on Mondays and Tuesdays, so they don’t have to compete as much with Idol. However, we watch 24 and Prison Break on Mondays, so there’s a conflict for us, plus Tuesdays are busy for us as well (NCIS, The Unit, American Idol). What’s a TV-aholic to do? 😀
  • They finally got down to the real singing last night on Idol. I think a lot of the guys had a lot of nerves. Some of them sounded really bad. Of the 12 guys that sang, my favorites were Chris Sligh (big curly haired dude) and Phil Stacey (baldie). I hope they make it through, and no, I didn’t vote. We had to tape it and watch it late because we watched NCIS and the Unit. Can’t miss Mark Harmon and Dennis Haysbert, former President David Palmer to those of you who watch 24 🙂
  • Speaking of 24, Monday was an ok night. Boy, that Bauer family is certainly dysfunctional. Papa Bauer thinks nothing of shooting his kids and grandson. Of course, it appears Jack is the favorite since he didn’t kill him, like Graem, and he just ran off and let Jack live. The twist with former President-Prissy-Pants, aka Charles Logan, was a good one to throw in at the end.
  • Lost. Ah, Lost. A show we started watching with the very first episode and have truly loved over the years. Lost is starting to annoy and discourage me. It’s too convoluted, too much going on, too many backstories, too many new characters, too much new plot thrown in without enough being answered or solved or even broached again. What of the polar bear, the smoke monster. Where are they going with this show? The previews “promise” that we’ll get answers this week. We shall see. I read online somewhere that last week’s episode had the lowest ratings ever for this show. I’m starting to think thousands or millions of other people like me are getting really disillusioned with this show. I’m going to give it until May and then seriously consider if we’re going to continue with it.
  • Survivor and Amazing Race, as good as always. We love both of these shows and they are consistently good, not great. You always find someone to love and to hate, someone to root for and someone to cheer against. On Amazing Race All-Stars, so far I’m pulling for Rob and Amber and wanting Mirna and Charla to leave. They bug me. Bad. On Survivor, I haven’t found a clear-cut person to root for yet. They need to weed a couple more out, I guess. I really hate it when it’s so one-sided and one tribe decimates the other. It’s so disheartening to see one tribe lose over and over.
  • I could go on and on (I didn’t even broach Battlestar, my most favorite of shows) … we watch a lot of shows and tape even more. I love TV, I always have. On a related note, we forgot to tape the last Nora Roberts movie on Lifetime this past Monday. I wonder if they will reshow it this Sunday night, like the others. I’ve really enjoyed those 🙂

    1. Claire Said,

Thanks for the “release date” of Dancing, I saw the list but didn’t know when it started. that’s a fun one. I haven’t been overly excited by the last few 24’s. They need a little more excitement…it’s time. don’t watch Lost or Amazing Race. i also didn’t get to watch AI last night b/c I was at Aida at Thalia Mara! It was SO good, but my mom said the same thing about the guys. they’ll get better as they have more experience…remember George?

    2. Jim McKee Said,

I think Heather Mills might try to get a leg up on the competition.

      (smirk)

OK, how about this for a show… take some people who can sing decently, put them on a remote desert island, and make them have a dance competition?

(Seriously, you couldn’t pay me enough to watch any of that stuff.)

You didn’t mention “Heroes”. Are you not watching this show? I mean, seriously, the BEST new show of the 2006-07 TV season.

    3. Gail Said,

I taped Carolina Moon but haven’t watched it yet, they WILL reshow it because it’s Lifetime cheesy tv!

      Race….love Rob/Amber, always have!

Lost, same here. And 24, yikes did Jack learn his ways from Dad! That was a twist they threw in at the end.

Dancing, I’d heard they would announce today and that looks like some pretty good ones.
Idol, I was just writing a blog post about it too! Blake was the only one that did ok last night surprisingly enough…..love Chris but he’ll have to do way better!

    4. Michael Said,

I must be the only person who adored Lost last week…loved every last second of it and it re-energized my love for the show.

That said, 24 this year is slumping…badly. I want it to be good again…soon!

Maybe the return of Logan will help…

    5. Heidi Said,

I like that Dancing with the Stars show, but for some reason, I always forget to watch it.
And I actually LOVE amazing race. I find that for me, it is consistently good because they are always in some interesting part of the world and that part is fun to watch even if you don’t like the people as much.
      I got tired of survivor…

    6. Shayna Said,

Ok, I will now be watching Dancing, I grew up in Portland Or and know all about Clyde Drexler! Thats HI-LARIOUS!!!!
I watch AI, Gilmore, Monk, House, Psyche, and of course Greys Anatomy Those are the best!

    7. Southern Girl Said,

If you’ve been to my blog, you’ll see I’m completely underwhelmed by this season’s crop of stars on DwtS. Oh well, maybe someone will surprise me. I certainly didn’t expect to fall in love with Emmitt Smith last year! *g*

I’m afraid Lost has lost me for good. Didn’t bother watching last week and it didn’t bother me a bit that I missed it.

Yay Rob and Amber!!! Charla doesn’t bother me as much as Mirna, but since you can’t have one without the other, I’m all for them both going. 😉

    8. kailani Said,

Of course my DVR decided to conk out yesterday. I think it’s in cahoots with my cell phone. I missed Idol! Whaaa!

    9. Karla Said,

      Love 24!!!

And I am with Jim McKee – Heroes is THE BEST show on TV right now!!! Love it!!!

(For some reason, I can’t watch The Amazing Race this time. I think I am a little burned out on it.)

    10. Karla Said,

      ooops…forgot to mention “Idol”.

I sure hope tonight is more exciting than last night. Very mediocre! (I am rooting for Chris Sligh, too. He’s great!)

    11. Sherry Said,

Thanks for the update on Dancing — and for the lineup!

I wasn’t too crazy about any of the guys’ performances last night. Overall I like the big curly haired guy, the bald guy, the other big guy with the goatee, and the beat box guy.

      Hope the girls are better.

      Sherry

    12. Debi Said,

I’m actually in a TV slump right now where I’m not really interested in my shows. Lost doesn’t really interest me right now. However, I do like The Amazing Race. I like Rob and Amber also. Not really sure who I’m rooting for. I like Uchenna and Joyce but they already won once. Some of my favorite teams from the past aren’t on this one.

    13. Lynne Said,

Oh, I feel so out of it. I’ve never watched 24, Amazing Race, Lost, or Survivor. I’ve seen Dancing With the Stars a few times, and I did watch Idol last season (I really liked Elliot). In fact, I’ve hardly watched any TV since NBC canceled my favorite show, Ed.

These shows are probably on past my bedtime too! When you get to my age, Old Goat age, you need to go to bed early!

    14. Shawna Said,

I’ve been watching Idol some. Last season was the 1st one I watched. I wish Chris Daughtry would have won though. I’m sitting through the girls tonight, but I missed the guys last night. We watch Survivor. It’s our Thursday Night group tradition although I didn’t really get into last season.

My top shows are Heros, Gilmore Girls, Smallville, the Office, My Name is Earl, and Ghost Whisperer.

    15. SnoopMurph Said,

I agree with you about Lost…giving it a fair chance until May. My interest is waning, I just hope it will pick up.

I might try out Dancing with the Stars this season. It looks like a fun show.

    16. Gail Said,

What was the Lost show tonight? huh, where were the answers, the 3 mysteries they were going to solve? Did I miss it somewhere?
What exactly are they doing? May might be pushing it here.

    17. booklogged Said,

Wonderful post. The only show I’ve really ‘keyed’ into my week was Amazing Race. So glad it finally started again. I like Rob/Amber, too, but my favorites are Joyce & Uchenna. There are 3 pairs that I’m really anxious to have gone.

I hope you have TiVo or something like it. We just got Direct TV Plus and I love it. My favorite show is Fraser. I’ve got it set to record all the Fraser shows on 3 different networks. Now when I need a Fraser fix, it’s there. My daughter used it tonight to record all three of her shows – Jericho, Medium and Lost. She’s got me hooked on Medium and Heroes now. You really need to check out Heroes.

Here’s to a good tv season.

    18. Debi Said,

Hi Stacy! Who was that guy at the end of 24? We could tell he had to be someone from a prior season. (I don’t know if you remember, but we watched most of the first season before I got sick and couldn’t watch. Then we decided we shouldn’t watch later seasons until we “caught up”. But then you urged us to just start watching this season. And we’ve been sooooo glad we took your advice.) Anyway, it was obvious we “should” know who that fellow is, but of course, we don’t.
