Library Run

Just got back from a quick trip to the library. I had wanted to get a couple of books in different series I am reading, but the ones I wanted were checked out. I was looking for the fourth book in the Cedar Cove series by Debbie Macomber (44 Cranberry Point) and the third book in the No. 1 Ladies Detective Series by Alexander McCall Smith (Morality for Beautiful Girls). I’ll have to get those on another trip.

So, to compensate, I got an armload of books that I won’t finish in my 3 weeks time, but that’s ok. I would have just gotten 3 or 4, but one of the books is the first in a trilogy and they had all three on the shelves, so I went ahead and grabbed them while I could. I can call on the phone in a couple weeks time and renew any of these for another 3 week block.

Oh, and yes, I have tons of books here to read. I have at least 35 or 40 in my TBR (“to be read”) pile. No, I didn’t want to read any of those next. I wanted something else. Doesn’t that make perfect sense? 🙄

Here’s what I got, and they are also on my sidebar now:

Susannah’s Garden by Debbie Macomber
We are All Welcome Here by Elizabeth Berg
Miss Julia Stands her Ground by Ann B. Ross
Treasures of the North (Yukon Quest, book 1) by Tracie Peterson
Ashes and Ice (Yukon Quest, book 2) by Tracie Peterson
Rivers of Gold (Yukon Quest, book 3) by Tracie Peterson

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, here’s a quick pic:

  1. Laura Said,

Right now I am itching to read new stuff!!!!! I’m halfway through the Crichton book. It got a lot juicier. But it’s still no spring-colored-cover girly fiction book! I feel like going to the library. Heh.

  2. Debi Said,

Of course, it makes perfect sense! Just gotta love the library, don’t ya? Ours now has a system on the web, too. Which is really cool for a lot of reasons. You can renew your books right on line. You can look things up to see if they’re in and put holds on them, or even order them from inter-library loan. And they send e-mails a few days before items are due to remind you…that’s really nice since we usually go at least once a week so we often have 3 or more different due dates. Geez–I’m just sitting here getting all giddy just talking about it!

  3. Stacy Said,

I really enjoy Tracie Peterson. I haven’t read those, but I have read her stuff in the past. Let me know how those are, please.

I may have to run by my library tonight. I’m like you. I don’t want to read what I have at home…

  4. Lynne Said,

Makes perfect sense to me! I have a whole bookcase filled with books that I haven’t read, and none of them appeal to me right now. Looks like I’ll have to go to the library or (gasp!) Amazon.com.

I’ve read SUSANNAH’S GARDEN. Wasn’t as thrilled with that one as some of her other books. I’ll be anxious to hear what you think.

  5. Southern Girl Said,

Some of Elizabeth Berg’s stuff is on my TBR list eventually, and I think when my mom finishes the Philip Gulley “Home from Harmony” series (it’s a lot like the Mitford series, I think), she’s going to start that Miss Julia series.

And I know just what you mean about having plenty of books at home to read, but wanting something from the library instead. ; )

  6. Susie Said,

You’ll have to let me know about “We Are All Welcome Here” – if it’s half as good as “The Year of Pleasures” then I’ll have to find me a copy!

    Happy reading!

  7. Shawna Said,

I love the library. I can’t wait until Scamp is old enough to pick out some of her own books. I remember when I got my first library card. I felt so big:)

  8. Gail Said,

    Oh, some good books there!
What comes after the last Miss Julia book I read? I’ve read 5 of them maybe? Is that right? Did I borrow them from you or someone else?

  9. local girl Said,

That should keep you busy for a while. Let us know if you like them.

  10. Dianne Said,

Makes sense to me. Sometimes something on my pile just doesn’t fit the bill for me and I’ll go looking for something else. I’m enjoying my intro to Ann B. Ross and Elizabeth Berg as new-to-me authors this year. You’ll have to tell us how you like We Are All Welcome Here.

    Have a good week

  11. Kim Said,

I love the ‘Miss Julia’ books. I’ve read the first couple and have 2 or 3 more here to read sometime. I’ve never read Tracie Peterson, I’ll have to look at some of her books since we have similar tastes in many of the books you list. I have stacks of books here that I haven’t read, but just HAD to go to Borders Saturday to get a book to read. I got a mass market paperback so I didn’t spend a ton. It’s a murder mystery by Emilie Richards. Last year on a complete whim, I bought her first murder mystery called ‘Blessed is the Busybody’ and loved it. I guess they’re considered cozy mysteries. I generally stick to general or Christian fiction, but I’ve enjoyed the mysteries that I have read over the last year.

    Have a great day!

  12. jen Said,

I hope you enjoy the day…..Happy Valentines.

  13. mamichelle Said,

I haven’t read any of these but have heard rave reviews about Debbie M. Have fun trying to get through those!

I have trouble getting through 2 pages lately. I have about a chapter left in “The Narrows” and I cannot make it through without zonking out!!! I can’t wait for the end but I’m just way too tired.

  14. Write From Karen Said,

    Hey Stacy!

“We Are Welcome Here” caught my eye. Here’s what I thought about the book:

I read this entire book in one sitting. It took me four hours to complete this story’s emotional roller coaster. I could barely see the final words through my tears. I could barely breathe past the lump of sympathy in my throat. I shut out my world and stood alongside Diana as she struggled with her mother’s disability. I barely remember kissing my husband and children good night.

    This story was that good.

If you like Elizabeth Berg, you’re gonna LOVE this book. *grin*

  15. Sherry Said,

I know it sounds silly, but that picture just gave me the most calm and happy feeling!

    😀

    Sherry

  16. Barb Said,

I just finished the sixth book in the Mitford series. Six down and three to go! Then I’m going to re-read the Little House books. I decided light, comfortable reading is what I need this winter. I’m like you. I have to have a pretty big pile of “to be read” books or I get nervous. 🙂

  17. Judi Said,

looks like good reading. I am like you I have a ton of TBR books but I wanted something new so I found a hard back Kristin Hannah book for $5 the other day and grabbed it.

  18. Susanne Said,

Love that Tracie Peterson Series. All looks good.

  19. Kelly Said,

I am a big Elizabeth Berg fan, but have not read this one. I look forward to hearing what you think.
