Vacation vs Sick Leave

Sick Leave... or vacation?Just a quick blurb… not a lot going on around here. We’re in the post-Christmas downward spiral … does anyone else experience that? I guess after all the weeks of shopping, decorating, wrapping, cooking and planning, it’s always a bit of a letdown after the “Big Day” is over. I usually really enjoy that time, but this week, not so much. Tim is off work all week, and looking forward to doing the things he loves – going to play golf and going to hunt. Me, I usually use this time to get the house back to normal, un-decorated, and everything put up and back in its place. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to do much of that so far. I haven’t felt well, and so I haven’t had a lot of energy to do much yet. (That brings up the title of the post – if you work at home and you’re sick, are you on vacation or do you ask for sick leave or what?!!) I’m behind on my cleaning, since we’ve been gone so much and we’ve been so busy, but the dirt and dust are starting to get to me. 🙄 At least I’m about to catch up on the laundry – after the break with no workable washer and dryer, I’m glad to have a set in the house that works!

Anyway, I haven’t even made a menu for this week (blah!) and have no concrete plans of what we are going to do and what we are going to eat on any given day. I don’t operate well without some kind of plan; I’m not a “fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants” kind of girl! Anyway, at this point, I don’t much feel like cooking and don’t much care. Isn’t that terrible? Guess that’s what happens when you get half sick and don’t feel like doing much besides laying on the couch and reading or watching TV!

Hope everyone is having a good day… and maybe starting to get back to normal. Looks like we’re going to have to postpone the “back to normal routine” here at our house until next week!

  1. Laura Said,

I hate when things aren’t “back to normal” for a while. Last night I was so stressed about the house being a MESS (and having new things that don’t have a place yet) that I was almost hyperventilating. I was running around saying, “I need to calm down!! I need to calm down!!” Lol it was awful.

  2. Dianne Said,

Like Laura, I hate things being a mess and out of place. I am dragging a bit here too … it’s 7:15pm and I’m in my PJs, already had a bath and am ready to snuggle down and read for a bit. I did clean my stove top tonight, and did the dishes. That’s about it. I think you just have to go with the flow when you feel like that – just give in a bit. I hope you’re feeling better before you know it.

  3. southernfriedgirl Said,

I am fighting the urge to de-Christmas the house because I promised to leave it all up for some company coming on new year’s day. Girl, it is making me nutso.

  4. Barb Said,

I actually enjoy the first few days after Christmas. I make myself get Christmas taken down and put away, and then I just veg out. It’s a lot of work, getting ready for Christmas, and we deserve a break when it’s over.

I don’t know about the vacation vs. sick leave thing. Seems like no matter where you work, you should be allowed sick leave when you aren’t feeling well. Hope you perk up again soon.

Meantime, just take it easy – you deserve it.

  5. Gail Said,

Hope you feel better soon! Just take it easy & enjoy the rest of the holiday, the stuff to do will still be there later. Rest and relax sis!

  6. booklogged Said,

I hope you will be feeling better soon. Nothing worse than having the time and desire to accomplish things and then to be sick. I never ‘plan’ anything for the 2-3 days after Christmas. Just relaxation, playing games with the family, and watching a movie or two. Usually take the tree down and do some thorough house cleaning on the 29-31 in time for our New Year’s Eve party.

  7. Simply Dawn Said,

Well we took down most of the decorations Tuesday. Patt offered to help and I jumped on the offer.

    Hope you’re feeling better!

  8. rach Said,

Sorry to hear that you’re not feeling well lately. Hope you’ll get well soon.

We usually take down the decorations after the celebration of the Three Kings, which falls on the first Sunday of the first week of January.

Wishing you a prosperous New Year!

  9. Shawna Said,

We are putting a little of our Christmas away everyday, meaning the presents we got, finidng homes for things we wanted but didn’t really need. We haven’t gotten around to the tree or lights yet.

You should get a sick day. Of course, when my husband takes a sick day, he usually has to do a little work from home anyway:( I get a sick day when my husband takes the day off to watch Scamp:)

Hope you feel better soon, Stacy! I say call in pizza and call it a day. You need your rest!

I cleaned up a lot yesterday. The dust was definitely getting to me. It looks so much better but I have a long way to go, especially my ds’ room (he just moved out and it’s really nasty!!!).

    Take care.

  11. Cam Said,

I hope you get to feeling better soon. In the meantime, you should enjoy your “sickness” and take a break from all the work. You can just veg out and read or watch movies, and then order in for dinner tonight.
